  • This is a complete overview of Toyota's integrated dash cam on my 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD PRO. After addressing the recall from Toyota regarding a required software update, I was able to salvage all my files. In various recording modes, real footage showing the quality of this amazing camera during day time and night time is included.

    I really loved this video, thank you.
    I don't understand why others haven't posted about these, they are more common than ever in new Toyotas.

Honestly, I think the biggest advantage of the camera is the sentry mode and clean installation. After owning it for quite sometime, those are the only two advantages I see and doesn’t really have any features that significantly sets it apart from the competition. But hope Toyota is reading your post because that would be awesome to have those deter features 👍

    Great review of the dashcam. Some questions though.. For the parking recording, your car engine is turned off right? Are there options to have it automatically turn on when it senses motion around it? Is there any extra power sources that it needs to function when the vehicle is either on or off?

    In practical terms, how sensitive is the park mode before it kicks on? For example, does the slight movement of washing your windshield activate it? What would those people in the parking garage have to have done to activate it? Just walking in front of it? Thanks

    • @TristanGrimaldo
      @TristanGrimaldo  Před 7 měsíci

      The park mode doesn’t stay on all the time like the sentry mode on a Tesla. They don’t specify too much exactly how hard the vehicle has to be hit in order for the sensors to activate park mode, but I would assume something significant like a hard door ding or someone actually hitting your vehicle with theirs

    Can you define how long the duration of the clips are? Looks like they are 2 minutes? Also, is there a lag between when one clip ends a recording and one starts recording? I wouldn't want to miss an event like a crash on the freeway it it happened to occur between when one ends and one starts recording. I suppose I could quickly hit the action button but could forget.

    • @TristanGrimaldo
      @TristanGrimaldo  Před 7 měsíci

      The duration of the clips are honestly from the moment you turn it on to the moment you turn off the vehicle. I simply just cut these clips for the purpose of the video. You can also record on demand using adventure mode. However, once your memory is full it will simply record in a loop and record over previous footage (oldest first)

    Tristan, I have never had a dash cam so these may be a silly questions. In normal, day to day, driving how much footage will a 32G SD card hold? What happens when its full? Does it just shoot in a loop and start deleating the oldest footage or do you need to manually erase? Thx, great content.

    • @TristanGrimaldo
      @TristanGrimaldo  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey Kyle! Not silly questions at all. It performs loop recording for 2 mins video file duration. Oldest file is deleted once Normal Recording allocation is full. You wont need a larger memory card due to this. When there is something you want to save, you simply download the video file from the app and save it where you prefer. Once it’s saved, you can delete it. For this dash cam, you can only access your video files while you’re in the truck and your phone is connected to the camera. But once it’s downloaded, it will always be available on your app.

      I've owned my Tundra for about 2 months now. As far as issues go, nothing serious to be honest. The rear axle recall was simply to check it the bolts were tight (which they were). Other issues are software updates and minor quality issues. Mechanically, the truck has been awesome! Still smiling ear to ear every time I get behind the wheel. What's funny is the majority of the negative comments you see on Tundra videos are from individuals who don't even own the truck yet alone have seen one in person, which makes the source not credible. At the end of it all, I am very happy with it and have confidence in knowing that even though it is a new truck, it is still built by Toyota, the company who everyone fell in love with due to their dedication to quality and reliability.

      You’re absolutely correct. It does not have a connection with the infotainment system. It acts similar to that of a 3rd party camera. However, you would be surprised that the price of this camera is within range of other high quality cameras. I have owned dash cams in all my vehicles and what I honestly love about Toyota’s dash cam are:
      1. Oem quality

      I just got the integrated dash cam installed on a new Toyota. My manual says a 128gb SD card is the max you can install into the cam. Right now, I'm using a SanDisk High Endurance 128gb card for my cam without issues. When installing that card into the cam, I made sure to format the card using the app first. So far, so good.

    Hi, I'm about to get a 2023 Rav4 and the camera is an option. Is there a way to turn the camera off? For example, if I choose not to record at all, can I turn it off completely (after the ignition start up)? Thank you!

      Hello there!
      To stop recording, turn off the vehicle ignition or press the Dashcam's Power Button for more than 1 second till the Green Power LED is off.
      By pressing the Power Button you are temporarily shutting off the Dashcam. It can be turned on again by pressing the Power Button or it will automatically turn on again the next time you start your vehicle.
      You’re also able to mute the camera. Unfortunately, my dash cam completely failed and Toyota recently replaced it under warranty. I’ll be posting an updated video soon that so stay tuned. Thank you for watching!

    • @TristanGrimaldo
      @TristanGrimaldo  Před 2 lety +4

      Yes it does. The moment you turn on your vehicle, it starts to record on a continuous loop. Here are the different recording modes straight from the camera’s manual:
      Normal Recording: Loop recording, 2 mins video file duration. Oldest file deleted once Normal Recording allocation is full.
      Event Recording: Triggered by G-sensor or triggered manually (short press ACTION button for Event Recording). Oldest file deleted once Event Recording allocation is full. This over-writing can be turned off in the app, but may result in files not being protected if memory is full.
      Parking Recording: When the vehicle shuts down and then waits 2m 45s, the Parking mode starts. The parking recording is triggered by G-sensor and takes 5 seconds to boot up and record 1 minute of footage per G-shock event. Oldest file deleted once Parking Recording allocation is full. This over-writing can be turned off in the app, but may result in files not being captured if memory is full.
      Adventure Recording: Activated by long pressing Action button, records continuous file till card full or user stops recording by pressing Action button again with a long press.

    HOW DO YOU RESET THE PASSWORD??

      You would need to delete the entire app and reinstall it on your phone. From there, it should prompt you for a password reset. There is a factory code initially. All “0” if I’m not mistaken but after that you can put your own. There is also a manual on the camera app for reference if you need additional help. Worse case, I’m sure your local Toyota dealership can help.

    I hate to be that guy but…. In the clip of you washing the car you posted the exact coordinates to your house…

      Lol no worries. I live in a fairly secure area with the majority of my neighbors being former military, former and active law enforcement, and not a single blind spot. Plus we live in Texas, not the greatest idea 😎. But it’s an awesome dash cam.

    Just stop on the dash cam...it's a feature and you got it.. what's the problem,?

      There were many Tundra owners requesting a video on it because their trucks did not come with the dash cam. Simply an overview to see if this is something they would want to add to their truck.

    If you want your videos to get more positive feedback. Less talking and show us more truck. We want to look at the truck not you .

      Lol it all depends on the content. It would be difficult to show the truck when the purpose of the video is to highlight the dashcam, which is inside the truck. Watch my owner's review video of the truck. I thoroughly cover the truck (inside & out). But no worries, you will be seeing a lot of truck when we shoot the drag race video. Thank you for watching.
