- In 1944, Vice President Henry A. Wallace embarked on a nearly two-month-long mission to the Soviet Union and Asia. What's largely forgotten is that Wallace, an Iowa native and a champion of agriculture, took seeds with him, including the ones of this beautiful honeydew that took root in Gansu Province, China.
