That opening was 🔥
Firstly! Man…..great playing! Secondly holy mother of god that pedal is amazing. So impressed. Had a friend bring round the Fuzz pedal from these guys and was blown away! Sent me on an all night bender
Awesome playing bro.👍
I have this one - and all I can say - you are 100% right. It's the only one which provides the SRV tone... Great playing mate - thumbs up and subscribed
Man this pedal sounds absolutely amazing.
Did not expect a PRS to have that Texas Special sound 🤯 incredible playing Lucas
Was thinking the same thing! I always love Lucas's playing, but this was pleasantly unexpected. That PRS can just about do it all. The pedal sounded good too God bless and SRV on 🎸😎👍
Thanks :)
That is one of the things I love about my Planet Tone pickups, they can also do that sound as well as my normal humbucking thing.
@@LucasFowler Still though... Ya gotta admit it would have been extra nice to hear that PRS compared to that Strat back there. 😁
is it weird that i love and respect SRV, aspire to play like 100th as good as him, yet really don't lust for his tone?
Nope, there are lots of guitar players I love but I don't want to sound like them really. Hendrix is a good example, I love his playing and songs but I've never had any interest in getting his tone.
@@LucasFowler so true. No I love SRVs tone which I try to get but hendrix and Rory Gallagher I love but don't like their tone. Too glassy.
Soooo awesome!!! 🤠 ❤️🎛
Thank you!! 😁
I just watch these to here you jam for a bit. Sweet pedal. I suspect you make it sound better than I could 🤣
I've Been thinking about getting one of those pedals.. so after a quick search, this video popped up.. and I must say, Killer Tone's and great playing!! .. Well done Sir 🙂✌️
I’m glad this has 0 dislikes!, i always wanted to know how this sounded with humbuckers, thank you so much!!!
Awesome piece of gear if you're looking for that tone. What really got me though were those pickups! You went everywhere with them and they performed at every level. Crazy good playing my friend.
I'm very proud of those pickups! Jose at Planet Tone did all the work, but he managed to take all the things I told him I wanted to birth them into reality. Everyone that tries them seems to like them so I think we got them right :)
Damn! Beautiful tone and hot-shit playing. Great stuff!
Damn that opening is pretty dead on my man. Hell yeah.
Sounds great also with humb🎸 great review☝️
I have the Pedal Pawn fuzz. They make great pedals.
😲😲😲 Wow! That is that tone!!!!
You are an amazing player!!
8:15 amazing
So it only sounds like that at really high volumes? Ts9 does same thing. The real wow factor would be to get that tone on say 3 or 4 out of a 15 watt amp with a celestion 25 watt greenback.
A Tubescreamer and this are fundamentally very different. Both great sounds, but they don't do the same thing.
But most of the SRV tone is in the playing anyway, so if you play the licks right with big-boy strings, you'll get pretty close through anything.
@@LucasFowler my point is the volume level, not the strings. And yes Stevie did use a ts9 when no Texas twang existed. There must be a way to get that tone at lower volumes. Many of us have neighbors.
@@owenRandolph718 I got the sound out of a lower volume here. The amp is cranked up but it is running through a load box into my computer with an impulse response. I was hearing the guitar through my studio monitors. No neighbors would have been any the wiser.
I agree, he did use a TS808, TS9 and TS10.
SRV didn't use a "Texan Twang" but he did use treble boosters. And this pedal is not just based off a treble booster, it is a reproduction of a treble booster by Caesar Diaz, the Texas Ranger. Caesar maintained and modified many of Stevie's amps and pedals, and also built him several original designs.
If you want the SRV sound, first and foremost you have to play like him and use the big strings. You do also need to play "loud". You can *actually* play "loud" or you can attenuate your output like I've done. Or you can use one of the many great amp modeling solutions that are available today that allow you to play modeled "loud" amps.
Well we’ll mr @lucasfowler great explanation! That s first review they really talk about the loss of low end , the high mode is heavy low end cutted
Even through a Blues Junior light Griddy it s to less low end.
Big amp full up that pedal is for that scenario
Great review
Thank you!
Kickass!
The pedal pawn showcases it on their vid using a fender amp set to a fairly clean tone and still sounds good.
Sounds great! Wish you could have switched to a single coil guitar since the output and tone are quite different between humbuckers and single coils. Really great playing!
i think he has a coil split, essentially making it a single coil
Hey Lucas, long time since I've sent a comment, been busy, and ill off and on that does sound great but if you took a Strat, and put a set of Lindy Fralin's singles, with the description," I want the output of SRVs pups, and tell him what covers you want, you will never get closer to SRV than those Fralins. I have Vintage Hots in my Tpm Rodriguez Strat, and his Steel pile 43's in my Thinline Tele, and they are p90s that drop right into Tele single coil Routs, but at 8.5k neck, and 10.5k bridge, they're designed to sound exactly like p90s!!! Until you turn the volume down to about 7, then they sound like classic 50's Tele pups. They amaze me every time ai plug it in! It's the most versatile guitar I own Give the girls a kiss from Keith in RVA, Peace!! 🤘😎🎸✌️
PS: I can get them for a discount I won't say it here, but I'll tell you on your Messenger page!!!
This pedal is basically a Dallas Rangemaster Treble Booster. ( Rory Gallagher, Brian May, SRV etc etcI) Just got one made called 'The Twangy One'....Wow! As good as if not better than the 'Texan Twang'....Absolutely awesome pedal. Get one folks. It changes the way play because it sounds so good.
Built by who ?
@@Mick-Dempsey Not sure. Sorry. Found the pedal on Ebay. I'll do some digging to find out.
@@remoteuser65 ''As good as if not better than the Texan Twang" I doubt it.
@@jed1mindtricks857 It's all subjective.
Great playing. I'm not seeing what this does that a TS doesn't though
Lucas this is a great channel. Do you sell guitars that you build? that tele you had on the channel recently is killer
Thank you!
The only guitars I build are through Planet Tone, but I can build one to your custom specifications through them, you only need email Planet Tone for details.
If you are interested in that Tele I built, it is for sale here: planettone.com/collections/guitars/products/custom-t-ocean-turquoise-with-elite-pro-pickups
Excellent review. Could you share you amp settings. I’m working this very thing with my Mesa.
Hey Lucas! Nice video and channel! I was hoping to ask what gauge strings you’re using with this playing? If you’re the type that answers questions here I will subscribe and you will attain me as a new fan indeed!
I'm not 100% sure if I had changed from 11-48 to 10.5-48 yet in this video. It's one of those gauges. That's what I use on 25" scale guitars in Eb.
Awesome SRV sound. Could you please tell me how to play the slide at 0:06 ? - Thanks
Fire
You are a great player brother...do you teach ?
Excellent tone! I have a Fender Champion 100. Can I still expect a similar sound even if my amp isn't tube? All reviews are with tube amps. Thank you for your reply !!
I’ve been using first before running into my hx stomp…works great.
at about 4:33 I heard the wah intro to his voodoo chile.
I think that recording of Voodoo Chile he did might be my favorite tone he's ever had.
Bout to make a purchase, you better not be fuggin me, like you got your amp set weird or got other pedals you’re engaging to making closer than the pedal actually offers bc I’m gonna buy that thing
I make no money from this company- and it sounds that good. The main thing is that you really need to have the amp cranked up loud, which I did here.
From 1:23-3:33 I describe what the pedal does and how I'm using it to get that sound, including how my amp is set.
@@LucasFowler Feel like I had to double ask, fools out here saying stuff but doing another for a company but the rest will be real stuff lol I trust you dude. Sold me on it for sure🤙🏽
Lucas, why not use a strat with this pedal? Especially your blue one with elite pro pickups. I just bought some and waiting on delivery
Good question. Basically because most of the demos of this pedal were done with strats, so I wanted to do something different and show that you can get a pretty similar effect with buckers as well.
Of course I love my strat and it still has those pickups :)
Did SRV have a treble booster period?
Yea mate could you tab those licks for us? Cheers eh
Pick your strings up on the neck in a circular motion.
It also helps to turn your pick sideways :P
This pedal won me over, first 40 seconds,
*THEN,* totally lost me @ ; 1:37 ''in front of an
amp already turned... all the way up...'' lol, most
of us with tube amps can get SRV with our
amps dimed, the idea is to get that sound without
having to always be at concert levels.
Playing like SRV has nothing to do with the amp
and neck pup tone, we can all get it with our amps
dimed as I already mentioned, SRV like Johnny Winter,
Hendrix, Duane Allman, Dickey Bets, all had the over
all sound and when using the neck pup on a strat ,
all had the same overall sound, not style of playing,
sound' , tone. They all had their amps on 8 +,
just like any of us can do, but don't always want
to peal paint off the walls, due to neighbors, family
etc.
Playing like SRV will go the longest way on that of course, but in my experience there is no way to sound like his rig without turning stuff up. Attenuators can help a lot, which I'm using here, but part of his sound is just the volume of air he's moving.
This isn't really a pedal to make any amp sound like Stevie, it's more of a replica of an actual piece of kit he used.
