Thanks for introducing me to the Background Eraser Tool. Not a bad job, but like 99% of hair extraction tutorials, the model is on a plain background. The final image on the white background looks just fine, but I don't think your cut out would look quite so impressive if you had placed the model on a deep blue or dark grey fill layer instead of the orange / white ones, which are kind of masking the limitations of the tool.
Better to use mask layer and brush tool. We can't get it back once we found some error! And this is not working for complicated background. But anyway this is one of way to cut it out.
THANK YOU very much for making this tutorial sir! I tried every other tutorial to cut out hair but it wasn't working for me - this worked like a charm!
Thank you for the tip! I'm trying to perfect removing background on Sterling Silver Jewelry, conbined with pearls and other semi-precious stones. They are kind of challenging and it takes a long time for each image. But, any tutorial on mastering that this jewelry are would be greatly appreciated. Thank you again!
Hey thanks Paul, are you ok to send over the image (or similar image) to my email "foreverdansky@gmail.com" or tweet me @ForeverDansky. I'd love to take a look at the image and try to help out with a more complex tutorial :)
this is your second video in which you showed uniform background. And that's very easy to remove even for begginers. please use the different background
Great tutorial. I do have a question: Does this functionality only work with a solid one color background or can it be done with a non solid color background? It be interesting to see what you can come up with. Thanks for sharing and for the inspiration!
a nice lesson for graphic designers , but , dear sir . a request to you that' s , it will be help full if you kindly show each step a bit slowly and with text form ,
OMG!!!! I have literally been trying to cut hair out of this photo for hours!!! I don’t know why I did not come and watch this video clip! So I could be sleep thank you so much great simple and easy
Hello, I am trying to try this method, but unfortunately, I can't seem to see the transparent background start to appear on the picture. I can see what I'm doing in the Layers Panel, but not actually where I am painting over.... HELP
Woww... Amazing ......I never would of thought of this....I work a lot with cutting hair out with my projects and this is AWESOME... Thanks for this so so Much ♥♥♥
Hello! I used the same settings as you on my CS5 but when I begin to paint over the background with my "background eraser tool" it won't do the same thing yours is doing. It stays the same somewhat. What am I doing wrong?
Hey Carolina, my settings are tuned for this specific image. If you adjust the settings like tolerance, and the method of erasing (discontiguous etc) you'll be able to find what works best for you image. Kind of trial and error, become familiar with the Undo feature until the settings cut out the background effectively. Hope this helps :)
A decent technique but only when there is a plain background. It would have been far quicker ( and more accurate) to use the path tool for the earing selection.
I've watched both your videos on hair etching, and both videos have been helpful however this technique i found better working for me! Thank you for saving me on this, its made me finish the job i needed to get done! Cheers for your excellent explaining!
I'm trying to cut around hair with a varied color background, so this is not helpful unless the background is a mix. Can you give pointers on how to do that? I'd be happy to send you a photo.
Thank you so much for your well-spoken and clear tutorial, this is a new trick for my repertoire. One question, can you use this method in mask mode too?
Love your tutorials, Dansky! Thank you for explaining this technique so clearly! How would you go about sampling and removing a multi-color background, please?
listen, this was a great tutorial. I am thankful that I found you, THANK YOU, THANK YOU and THANK YOOOOOOOOU again. I'm now able to do many other things using this technique because I've wasted so much time cleaning a background in the past when this is the answer, not just for hair but for many other things. Finally, something useful and I can add to my tool shop of Ps
It's a good demonstration of the tool but the model's hair and the original background are close enough in tone to disguise inaccuracies in the cut out.
sir agar photo k picche multiple colour ho or uska hair cutting karna ho to kaise karenge mujhe refine edge main hair cut puri tarah se samaj nahi aaya kya hum pan tool se cutting karne ka baad usko hair cut sahi kar sakta hain , single command se background cut kaisa karta hain please ttell me
Hey Matthew, yea there's a number of different ways to do more complex sections like around the ear. For example, Magic Wand Tool, Pen Tool, Eraser Tool, Background Eraser Tool etc :)
I think I have watched an earlier similar tutorial from your hand, also with an evenly gray background of good contrast. I understand why you stay comfortably away from the residual problems with separation of hair from a background - not least from busy backgrounds which are more common. The persisting problem is with stray hair that have obtained a hue very close to the hue of the background. While the human eye can distinct between hair and background, the tools in Photoshop will not distinct between glare with an identical hue adjacent to the hair and the hair itself. Our brain knows which part is hair and which part is glare due to patterns, the tools doesn't, because guiding structures and the concept of "hair" is unknown to the machine, and AI is still a small town in Russia. I am not very patiently waiting for the perfect tool.
What do I do if I wanna go back and edit what I've already made transparent? I don't want to go back in history. I just want to edit a part I accidentally made transparent. What steps should I take?
Hey, feel free to join the livestream every Friday at 4pm BST/UK time. At the end we do a Q&A usually, and discuss all things related to design/freelance/business etc :)

when I finish using the erasing tool I make a red stroke to the layer it will show me everything was not erased .
In that case, transform it to B&W and, i hope, it makes easier for u to cut.

Hey Dansky, do you have a tutorial for 5th as a spot color to send for a pre press ??
Nicely done. However, it would be nice to see the same against a black background. That's
much more difficult.
It's good but will you make a video for cut out the hair with street or background. So I think it's really difficult to cutout.
Love your tutorials, Dansky! Thank you for explaining this technique so clearly! How would you go about sampling and removing a multi-color background, please?
Thank you!! This is so much easier and quicker than creating layer masks.
You're welcome Lisa :)

How many sorts of videos do you render? And with no software ???
It's a good demonstration of the tool but the model's hair and the original background are close enough in tone to disguise inaccuracies in the cut out.

Hey Matthew, yea there's a number of different ways to do more complex sections like around the ear. For example, Magic Wand Tool, Pen Tool, Eraser Tool, Background Eraser Tool etc :)

nice
why you are not using magic wand tool for removing the original background?it will be quicker process.
Because it gives a poor end result when there's a lot of strands of hair, and often leaves edges with fringing.
You're a genious!!!! Thank you very much for this explicit tutorial.
Awesome, I want to make myself like it
Thank you! Simple, quick and easy to understand instructions
