One of the most obvious ways they can carry on success is through simple naming.
Ask even the most casual person to identify the order of Playstation consoles, and I guarantee they'll figure it out. No marketing required.
But ask someone to list Xbox consoles in order, either by release date or power. Here, I'll list them out of order:
1. Xbox Series S
2. Xbox One
3. Xbox One X
4. Xbox
5. Xbox 360
6. Xbox Series X
7. Xbox One S
Would an average person be able to look online or walk into a store & instantly identify the current, most powerful one?
With Nintendo & Sega, you typically had to reeducate consumers each gen on what your new hardware was. And if it retained a name (like Wii to Wii U or NES to SNES), did people initially know it was meant as a successor & replacement?
Or did they think "I already have a Nintendo, why do I need a new one?" Maybe they thought "Wii U? Is that another accessory/attachment?"
What certainly would be an awful idea would be calling it the "New Nintendo Switch." It might sound cool in Japanese, but it sounds silly in English.

@@NintyPrime I see you're right. I've been harsh judging channels that continuously push rumor vids (especially when it's just 4chan or reddit stuff), but if the more thought-provoking/discussion content doesn't get views, I can't judge.
Yeah. I still make the stuff because I enjoy it, but my audience wants more rumors and leaks, so it’s cool. I enjoy that stuff too, but I want to make videos like this too. Just wish they performed.

This was an excellent commentary, which actually demonstrated understanding of how business and product development works. Most of the others I’ve listened to have been absolute trash, but yours was really good.
If they add their own "universal-achievement" system, plus being able to play retail games on the go, they will be the lead market in this industry, and most companies will prioritize Nintendo over the other consoles.
Seriously agree with everything here! I believe Nintendo has been ahead of it's time a few times but never stuck with it long enough to really watch it flourish. I still loved the VirtualBoy MANY years ago when I was a child. I remember seeing it at the mall and playing it before. Was sad I never saw it though afterwards. Being a child at the time I didn't know about business at the time lol. I know there were some quirks with the Switch in handheld, but I still use my OLED almost every day. I gave my daughter my original Switch I was lucky enough to pre-order when my wife was pregnant at the time. It's a blast and it didn't break the bank. Look what is out there now though - MSI, Lenovo, Asus Rog Ally, SteamDeck, etc. I have an Ally for the room and use it as like a mini laptop honestly lol It's great and convenient, play some games on it, but whenever I want to play with the family, we all play on the Switch. Again, not bashing on the competition, this is great. Nintendo upgrades the hardware to even simulate some of these newer devices using DLSS, doesn't matter how, but I look forward to playing a new Mario, Zelda, Kirby, Metroid, etc in 4k upscaled (if possible). But also in handheld mode, being able to play these great games but with a hopefully more steady fps, it would be a huge win. I love gaming in general, play all systems, but Nintendo... The NES was my first system and have always been a slight fanboy of Nintendo ever since.
No matter what happens, I'm just excited and can't wait to see what this truly becomes. See some real footage and screenshots of the device. I haven't felt this excited since 2016. Just a 37 y/o having a little child xmas moment.

The Nintendo Switch is so successful due to various factors. Firstly, of course, there is the innovative approach with the hybrid concept. Due to the flop of the WiiU, they were then able to re-release numerous good games, in particular Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. In addition, the Nintendo Switch - like most Nintendo consoles in the past - has the best range of first-party games. And finally, it also has a solid number of third-party titles. With a more powerful version, the first two points would obviously no longer apply. This means that if you want to have the same success, you would have to compensate for this with even better support from third-party manufacturers. This has indeed often been the problem in the past. Games such as Red Dead Redemption 2, Elden Ring or Resident Evil 4 Remake would therefore also have to be released on the new Switch.

The problem with previous generations from Nintendo was splitting resources and games between home consoles and handhelds, now with Nintendo having combined RnD and all their games on one console I foresee in the worst case scenario for Switch 2 is to sell a little above the 3DS

I can’t see a Nintendo console failing anymore because it’s a single devoted device. I ditched them during/after N64 because I loved jrpgs and I can’t name two good jrpgs on N64 while PSone was one of the better consoles for that genre all-time. All the good jrpgs were on Nintendo’s handhelds until Switch.

In Europe this year the PS is outselling the Switch more than 2:1. Yeah more than double the number of PS sold versus Switch.
Switch is a hand held not a console there’s no way that the switch lite could be considered a console wishful thinking Nintendo
What is a console?
I mean this sincerely. The definition online is piece of electronic equipment designed specifically for primarily playing games on.
It matters not if said device is a handheld all in one system, or a box that sits under a tv - they are both game consoles.
I think what you’re trying to argue is that the Switch is not a home console, which is defined as the same as the prior definition, but is specifically designed to be connected to a display.
Nintendo’s argument when Switch released in 2017, is that it’s a home console that’s also playable on the go. This technically was true, because it came with the necessary equipment to connect it to an external display, while maintaining the ability to undock and take it with you.
The switch lite, however, gets rid of that illusion because you cannot hook it up to an external display at all.
However, that doesn’t make it not a console. It’s still, in this case, and handheld gaming console. It’s just not a home console.
In the end, does the distinction matter? Not really. It’s a device you play games with.
