    I like this system. I think the goal is to slowly have clothes that (mostly) fit in the inner ring. But use what you have in the meantime. If an item of clothing is worn out and you need another one (raincoat for example) - figure out what worked and what didn’t and find a replacement that better meets your criteria.

    Watching this I realized something. I impulsively bought a pleated rainbow skirt. I thought I was shopping irresponsibly. But I’ve actually worn it a minimum of once every two weeks this summer. I’ve been rather pleased and a little surprised but I just realized it fits pretty well into my inner ring! It’s just a little to dressy to wear to work most days but it’s otherwise perfect.

  • @rushywush

    The main challenge I have - which makes me wear items I like the least most of the time - is I don't want to "use up" perfect items. I want to keep them for special occasions, even if they are casual items. I think this is partly down to laundry and feeling like I'll ruin something by wearing it more. The consequence for me is I get the opposite of your circle - my inner circle is the crap I don't mind wearing all the time, and the outer circle is the stuff I actually like and that suits me.
    Perhaps at some point you could do a video on how to maintain your perfect clothes that you spend money and effort curating?

    • @HaHaHaLMFAOtv
      @HaHaHaLMFAOtv Před 10 měsíci +10

      I completely understand that and see where you’re coming from. I work at a shoe store. Sometimes these old people come to us and complain that the shoes they bought 10-30 years ago are bad now even though they never worn them. But they spent so much money on the shoes! So to that I just want to say, clothes and stuff is meant to be worn. It will eventually tear apart and stain, so why not enjoy what you have? What we wear greatly affects our mood. So enjoy good clothes and the feeling that they give you! ❤

    • @LoomiTunes
      @LoomiTunes Před 10 měsíci +5

      I do the same! I have to get rid of my practical items because otherwise I never wear my ”nice” clothes. A big part of the problem for me is that 90% of my favorite clothes are vintage 30s-70s pieces and if they get ruined they can’t be replaced :’(

    • @s.a.4358
      @s.a.4358 Před 10 měsíci +4

      I completely understand that! Especially when the perfect item was not easy to find or expensive or otherwise hard to replace such as a vintage item. I’m definitely someone who will buy several of an item I love, so that I have a replacement.
      I think it is important to enjoy the item while you can though, because you are also not getting (as much) joy from not using it and maybe one day you won’t be able to use it anymore.
      I try to shift my own mindset from fear of using up the item to a mindset of believing that I will in future find other items I love and that will make me equally happy to the item I am now attached to. And I make sure to take photos wearing the item I love, so I also have a memory.
      My mother-in-law also has a lot of gorgeous clothes (she used to work in textile restoration) but almost always wears the same 4-5 house dresses that are comfortable but really not the most attractive. Her logic is that she has nowhere to go so it doesn’t matter. She is also blind so I think it’s a question of easy to reach items, so recently when she got a new closet and I helped her organise it, I put some of her pretty clothes (while still easy for her to put on) in the front so she will reach for them + I commented on how nice items were so she remembers what she has (blindness + older age, a reminder cannot hurt). Ultimately it doesn’t matter as long as she is comfortable, I guess, but she has all these beautiful things and she deserves to look beautiful even if she is just hanging out at home. She has a tool that tells her what colour her clothes are, and the other day she was colour detecting deep in her closet, and that made me happy because she rediscovered things she had forgotten she had and then decided to wear them.

      @@HaHaHaLMFAOtv I have several shoes I used to love wearing - comfy and looked nice - but now feel really uncomfortable. I don’t know if it is because of not wearing real / structured shoes for a long time during covid (I tend to be barefoot at home) or my feet otherwise changed, but these previously comfortable shoes are no longer making my feet happy. It definitely made me realise the importance of using items because things can change in future.

    • @HaHaHaLMFAOtv
      @HaHaHaLMFAOtv Před 10 měsíci +3

      @@s.a.4358 if it's the same shoes, there can be different reasons. Some you already mentioned. But then just regular wear will eventually make them worn out - the sole loses its shock absorption, which makes shoes harder to walk; and the fact that it loses it's own structure/shape, shoes simply no longer can support you. Previously old comfy shoes can suddenly give you blisters. New shoes always have more shock absorbent. So I recommend changing to different pairs regularly, it's also better to your feet ;) hope this helps!

    An extra element to the 2nd rings "almost perfect" pieces would definitely be to look into dyeing and tailoring them! A piece that fits perfectly but just isn't in your colour season could turn into one of your "perfect pieces" with a simple dye bath and some inexpensive (or DIY!) alterations could transform an ill-fitting piece in your best colour into one of your favourite items. No need to stop at simply not disposing of items that aren't ideal, we can actually TRANSFORM some of them into our ideal!

I'm at the stage where I know my three rings intimately but getting the organisation right is trial and error. I've made a morning "get psyched" YT playlist of music videos to get dressed to, which helps.

    Hey Ellie! Just wanted so say that i love all your videos on style and that you have really great ideas. Definetly will be using this system to organize my wardrobe better. I think i would add 'Quality' to the inner ring though. A good color and fit can still be upgraded, if you use these items often and they wear off eventually. You would want to invest in better quality of the same type of clothing. A white shirt for 5€ and a white shirt for 30€ is a huge difference.

    I think this system is brilliant! And so incredibly useful and helpful! I have always struggled with getting dressed daily because I feel I struggle with understanding what is formally appropriate in any given situation as well as what to wear for the weather. I swear I need like one of those charts from grade school that show outfit examples for the different temperatures! 😂 But I will say thanks to you Ellie I have been able to feel more confident in my knowledge about what suites me because of you hearing information on kibbe and color season. I am a natural summer. That has helped me a lot! But still my goodness I have so many items that do not fit into either of those categories. I feel the hardest part about navigating my closet is how disharmonious it is. Like I have so many pieces I’m oddly drawn to! I also struggle with how to organize my closet as my space is quite limited and I don’t have room to hang everything which is quite challenging considering if I put it away in a drawer I forget I own it and therefore don’t wear it. I currently do rainbow order in my closet which is funny because I am a summer so I shouldn’t have so many brights as they wash me out, but sometimes I can’t help it they are so fun haha. I think a video on how to style outfits for various occasions based on the ring system would be great. As well as styling your wackier items. Also any advice on shoes and shoe pairings would be greatly appreciated because I need comfort and something I can be mobile in, but I also want to be cute and haven’t quite found my perfect shoe for that. Much love! 🩷

    I have an 'archive' drawer for items that are currently out of fashion/style, season, are in colours I'm not currently wearing, and things I only wear very occasionally. I also have a 'review' drawer for things I'm thinking of getting rid of. Periodically I go through the drawers to decide what to keep. Sometimes items get moved back to my main wardrobe, but often I find I don't need them.

    I've actually found a solution to transform my middle ring items intk inner ring: deying them and slightly tailoring them to fix my season and body shape. I'm a soft autumn soft dramatic and most of my stuff is boxy in cool colours and loud prints and boy oh boy do I have my work cut out for me. But I started with making that capsule wardrobe and as I wear through it, instead of buying new stuff, I'm adding it back modified from that middle ring. Not easy work wise, but budget friendly and satisfying

    Hey, Ellie-Jean, thanks for your great content! I have a doubt on your (inspiring) system.
    I think I have an "inconsistent" set of style roots: mountain with sun AND moon (in the past moon was dominant, but my style has changed a couple years ago). This makes very difficult to me to find, as you suggests, pieces of clothing or accessories with the three roots simultaneously for composing my inner ring.
    Could you please make a video about these inconsistencies we might have in style roots and how to deal with it?
