This was my Jacob Collier gateway drug.
I hope you've been getting high as shit every day since
Me it was time alone with you
Its a Beach Boys original though
@@GLHStrumpet shh we know
Jacob is the only one to make a cover as good as an original yet completely different
@@williamnjagi2388 same. I heard that song and I’ve never been the same since
This song was already fantastic... and now it has a whole new meaning during these quarantine times
What is quarantine?
quaranta is Italian meaning 40. In Venice sailors from infected ships had to stay 40 days in lockdown before being admitted to take part in public life again. 😉
In Sept. of 2020, I got a puppy, one month old. Every night before bed, I played this song. He is now 11 months old, and he continues to calm down and lay with me when he hears it. Jacob has transpired his impact musically across entire species.
Brian Wilson is an absolute GENIUS. Great rendition!
Me casually listening to “in my room” from “in my room” in my room

@@PRODNEZUMI damn u reply so late
@@linn1_684 // I’ll be back to reply to you on 1/20/2023
@@PRODNEZUMI We're all looking forward to that reply. :P
the "hha co co" that makes up the beat is super cool because it's setting up the 3/4, but in the 1 2 3 scheme, 2 isn't on 2... it's like on the e of 2, a quarter beat later than you'd expect roughly, giving it this driving swing. And with the vocals in swing too, it just drags in the most satisfyingly unsatisfying way. It totally drives the song with how it puts you in anticipation of the next beat, but it's regular enough that it grooves. Like damn. Rhythms man. And this isn't even his complicated stuff, but it doesn't have to be complicated to be effective
Quintuplets my friend
@@BossDrSample it's not quintuplets
i'm still baffled by his "5/4 in 7/4" illusion he did. the dude is brilliant!
i know everyone's flipping out about the chords and harmonies and piano solos and complex stuff but that rolling marble at the beginning which pans from left to right though
like shit that rolling marble beat at the beginning just made my day
getting me every time
It actually goes throughout the entire song instead of just the beginning
wow. I never even noticed and now I can't unhear it! that's so crazyyyyy
the bass riffs in this song floor me every time cry 😭
4:09 That subtle "yeah" in the background though.
Literally the best part of the entire fucking album
yEeeaaauh
I love this song, Brian Wilson is a genius
Can't forget Gary Usher who co-wrote this song! Gary was also one of the greats.
Brian Wilson truly the greatest musical mind of our times
Currently building my home studio. Your studio set up inspires me, no doubt! Love it!
Hey, I'm planning on building one as well, got any wisdom to share? I have no idea whatsoever when it comes these things.
Reaper as your DAW, it's just as good as logic or pro tools at literally a third of the price, a Sampson CO1 condenser microphone, a Focusrite Scarlett audio interface. That's where you start :)
@@josed.vargas3961 sonar has just been made free so that would be better.
Hey its been 4 years, did you finish it?
how's the studio doing
what kind of sorcery is this. The sound the feels.

Jacob, everything you touch is pure gold. Every note, every space, in every song is perfection. You are a gift. Thank you.
Is that a 5-1 cadence in a Jacob Collier song? I'm in shock. Love ya, Jacob :)
@@GEMOTO Im pretty sure ur right, it sounds like a plagal cadence although my ear is pretty shitty so I might be wrong
Only little over 100 comments after 3 years. All Night Long got over 3000 within a month.
I can‘t believe that all those guys don‘t dig for everything this genius has ever put online.
Thats what im doing now😂
I discovered Jaocb via Time Alone With You and after hearing that: it felt like an obligation to look at his discography this I obliged like so and I don't regret it.
Jacob Collier just makes me want to learn more about music, he's such a talented man and a genius, but what truly fascinates me is his will to teach us and actually knowing how to do it. It feels like he was born to send us a message about the musical universe, his songs make me feel so relaxed and good it's like therapy to me.
WOW he swings it so hard that it almost falls apart, while also being telepathically tight with his harmonies. Love the re-harm too. One of my faves of his ever.
Jacob loves all the slightly off-beat rhythms. That‘s one of countless elements that produce this ever sparkling musicality being so mind refreshing.
Soul
'In My Room' is an extraordinarily moving song. It makes me weep, even when I can only hear it in my head. Sometimes I have to stop what I am doing just to play it and listen to the whole of Jacob's glorious first album. His years and years of hard work and creativity (from childhood!) are starting to show amazing results. Generations from now, Jacob Collier will be seen as one of the greatest musicians of our age.
This is a Beach Boys cover...
"cover" hahaha sorry
If we still have an earth generations from now...
Abhik Mazumder Speaking truth. XR, FFF 🍀
I'm old enough to remember the original Beach Boys record of this, and Jacob just sends it to heaven. He's one of the few people that can do a cover of a classic hit and even make it better.
This is the definition of perfection
It's so amazing how jacob's music feels deeper than any other music, it's like a religious feel
it's the chromatic scales.
The creative brilliance and musicianship of Jacob Collier at his best. He brings us new things and will always surprise us with his originality. What a gift to humanity Jacob is.
Jacob....this is a beautiful version. I can imagine that Brian Wilson is very pleased. Please come to Florida soon! Bring Becka and the boys from Accent with you. What a beautiful musical picture that could be created.
It's like combining crazy chords with sick groove beats and asmr
Awesome cover. Great Beach Boys, Great Jacob Collier.
So many dimensions. But it is also very very tender. I think he really loved his childhood room.
That'd be an understatement.
sweet damn that piano solo
adrian5b completely laid back, not a single note superfluous
This is absolutely sublime music. The lyrics, written by Brian Wilson, remind us of the place we get to call ours, whether it's a physical room, a memory, or a person - but to each of us, something that has comforted us in both hardshop and success. Below this lullaby of a tune, the harmony is both incredibly complex yet still has nested within it sensible melodic lines that intertwine together to create a lush texture that gently floats along. The bassline has recurring motifs and unique fills that are perfectly placed, on one of the clearest bass tones you can find in music. The background percussion is relaxed just enough, it's not overbearing but at the same time it's just enough, and with its lilting quality it eases the song forward. The piano solo at the key change is incredibly refreshing, like a breath of fresh air or ice-cold water on a hot day. This song is my absolute favorite of all time, it is the perfect combination of ingredients, a completely balanced and unique flavor that I will never tire of.
1:51- wonderful! It becomes almost another song
My favorite song from the album!
One of your best Jacob. Restraint!
I used to listen to Linda Ronstadt's cover of this song to go to sleep when I was little. I hadn't been expecting that this would be the same "In My Room," and the fact that it is just makes it so much better! Thank you for this experience--simultaneously a trip down Memory Lane and a whole new world to explore!
another peace of delicious art
Mmmmm this feels so PURE. Thank you Jacob ♡
what is this ive never heard anything like this it is absolutely beautiful
You know, this has a wonderful gospel feel to it, very spiritual. Keep up the great work Jacob, and God Bless.
[Verse 1]
There's a world where I can go to tell my secrets to
In my room, in my room
In my room, in my room
[Verse 2]
In this world I lock out all my worries and my fears
In my room, in my room
In my room, in my room
[Refrain]
Do my dreaming and my scheming, lie awake and pray
Do my crying and my sighing, laugh at yesterday
Now it's dark and i'm alone but I won't be afraid
In my room, in my room
In my room, in my room
[Instrumental Break]
[Refrain]
Do my dreaming and my scheming, lie awake and pray
I do my crying and I do my sighing, laugh at yesterday
Now it's dark and i'm alone but I won't be afraid
In my room, in my room (yeah)
In my room, in my room
[Outro]
In my room, in my room
In my room, in my room
In my room, in my room
In my room, in my room

What a U-bass sound!!!
Hey Jacob, did you know that Herbie Hancock recommended your album on his Masterclass? Congrats!
What did Herbie say about the album?
1 year to late, but they are friends, so makes sense :)
love this one!
hearing this version unlocks so many memories/feelings for me when i first heard it.
This is so beautiful 😭😭
Jacob is amazing! I love this. It sounds like an homage to Take 6.
This song sent shivers down my spine... Keep up the great work ^^
Wow so beautiful !
What do they call that, when you sing just after the beat in order to give it a really laid back sound? Dude I really loved that!
It's called latency. A variation of ritardando. It's a cornerstone of neo soul music. (Reference Musiq Soulchild's "Just Friends" and anything D'Angelo does.)
Great version! There's anywhere were can we listen to your favourite music and artists?? It will be nice to see where you take your inspiration from

Laura Blanco The Beach Boys, Stevie Wonder, Radiohead, Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones and The Beatles are some of his inspirations
Don't forget about those who are inspired by Jacob Collier
Lovely cover of one of Brian Wilson's most exceptional songs. As always the bass line is killer while the contemplative piano fill unearths the melodic potential of this iconic Beach Boys tune. The harmony vocals pay a feeling tribute to the genius of the original piece while putting down a marker for more to come from this astonishing new talent. Bravo!
My favorite off this album!
That is super awesome! What a brilliant dude!
Jacob, I can't express how much I love your work. This song has never sounded better. It's just pure joy. Thanks so much for the music!

@@janfyhrholdt2788no, I'm not. Brian recorded all of those incredible songs layering his own tracks like Jacob does. I prefer the original but this kind of recording is right up the alley of one guy sitting in his room recording overdubs

Outstanding cover.
My band teacher showed me this and I absolutely fell in love. It's mellow and soft, which is the complete opposite of what I usually listen to, but it's totally inspirational and gives me hope. Keep doing what you're doing, man. You're awesome!
🔥🔥
i actually deadass started crying when the vocals came in
this world isn't ready for jacob
Belíssimo.
Imagine if Jaco Pastorius, Jacob Collier, John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, Steve Gadd, and Elvin Jones got together to make a record. Do you think all the genius would try to overpower one another or would they create something more beautiful and powerful than anyone could imagine?
Genius is an end of itself; it doesn't need to overpower. I think they'd find EXACTLY where they belong in the mix! 🙂
would like to see more Jacob interpretations of Brian Wilson classics
aaaaaaaaaahhh this is mind blowing..."Albert Einstein" of music.
Yeah Brian Wilson is incredible
It‘s an iconic melody by Brian Wilson. What Jacob made from it is a masterpiece.
