4TH TIME LUCKY?? My Railjet misfortune continues | Budapest to Vienna

  • I like Railjet. I think it's the fact they travel through Austria, which is a good thing. I have used them three times in the past, and have had faulty barcodes and seat reservation issues. This time I try them from Budapest to Vienna. What could possibly go wrong this time?

    I used to work on a popular tourist route and I couldn't tell you the amount of American tourists we had insisting we rerun all their maxed out credit cards because how dare we suggest they had no credit left 🤣 It became a running gag with my colleagues and I, I'm sure this route is no different.

      The terminals are super shit mate, sometimes I need to run it twice even with a new card. By the way, insufficient funds are a different error code, but that just shows your level of ignorance towards the customers and your job.

    Hi Scott! I've done the Railjet journey a number of times in both directions. Not to Budapest but Vienna from Salburg. The train separates in Vienna one part goes to Vienna Airport and other directly to Budapest.In vienna I go onto Bratislava and then an internal train in Slovakia. The Railjet is fast and comfortable but I've never tried the cafe and I think the toilet was OK that I can remember.

    In 2015 I travelled Milan - Chambery by train, I knew where the toilets were, their presence was annouced by the smell drifting in the corridor. Many years prior I visited Budapest, travellign by train from Vienna to Kaleti station. I don't remember much but the journey was in a compartment coach, comfortable and very warm. Unlike outside which was freezing cold with snow on the ground.

    Nice! 🙂
    2:20 If you book with ÖBB, you can exactly choose your seat on a seating plan.
    3:44 the whole 1st class and business class get at the seat dining car service, maybe she was held up there.
    5:05 the dining car crew does not change.

      Hi.. is there any specific shown we book the seat if we go there? What if someone’s seat there? Or is it free seating if we are not booking?

    • @ronik24
      @ronik24 Před 2 měsíci

      @@hudzye Hi, yes, you only book tickets on almost all ÖBB trains. Reservations are almost always optional. But on routes like Vienna - Budapest they are highly recommended. It usually costs 3€. Make sure it is the same class as your ticket. Or buy both at once, then the app will choose it correctly for you.
      In the seat reservation dialogue, click on choosing the exact seat by plan, it also shows which seats are already taken.
      Classic reservation rules in Central Europe: you may sit wherever you want. If a reserved seat is not occupied 15 minutes after departure from that station, this seat is also freely available to everyone.

    Well, Scott old mate, fourth time unlucky means give it the flick champion! Move on to another rail journey that has been tickling your
    fancy somewhat. Maybe in a large country, or maybe small. Maybe a metro line, or maybe regional. Even try those Mountain railways
    in the Himalayas. Thanks for some great viewing Scott. Keep it up old sausage!

    The dining car crew stays the same, it has nothing to do with the origin’s country but with OBB. Been on a Münich- Vienna - BUD service back in 2018, they kept cancelling orders and ignoring pax in the first class cabin, so nothing changed really it seems.

  • @janopitz2610
    @janopitz2610 Před rokem +1

    Such a shame to hear about your bad experience. I really live RailJet. Typically Munich-Budapest and back. But honestly I usually choose to their Business Class. Large Seats. Perfect service in seat from the dining car (also available in 1st class).
    But you are right. WiFi only works in Austria and (surprisingly) Germany. But as mobile data on the phone is also not available outside of the Györ. Tatabanya and Budapest I guess this is nothing you can blame RailJet for.
    About the staff in the trains: They only change the conductors and I guess also the engineers, the staff in the dining car usually travels all the way to Munich.

  • @christophernoble6810
    @christophernoble6810 Před rokem

    Oh dear. Never had a problem with Railjet, only great experiences. Only thing was paying for meals; we had to chase them up several hours later to get them to take payment, but then that is I no way negative! At least you did not have to endure a compartment😒

  • @mikeschumacher
    @mikeschumacher Před rokem

    I did Railjet in Business from Vienna to Prague and the experience couldn't have been better. Their app works great and the conductor took my drink orders at the seat. You may want to go in at least First as I think food/drink can be ordered at the seat.
    Adding: ÖBB tends to be fiddly with American credit/debit cards as we're chip-and-sign, and I've heard the card machines on Railjet tend to have more problems than not. Always carry some euros!
