In 2018, 12-year-old Tavares Duckett, from Grand Prairie, Texas, set a new national age group record in the 100 meter dash by going 11.67 seconds at the AAU Junior Olympic Games, in just his first time racing at the event. What will he do this year?

Your lying how do you know
@@kingstonflemings6501 I Googled him. You'll find the same if you do so.
That's pretty cool if that's true. Seems like you're being straightforward. I'll be honest; When I was 12 years old, I was running low 13's and my track coach told me that I was extremely fast. This kid would've embarrassed me. Good for him, I hope he does well!
That isn't as much improvement as would be expected. Hopefully he has a growth spurt soon
@@joshwatt5434 100 percent. This 12 year old time is incredible though, low 11s for a 15 year old isn’t too crazy tho
Wow a 12 yo running faster than most of my varsity HS team lol
Honestly
That is sad
Lol what school did you go to and in what state. I know here in Texas an 11.6 is pretty normal for 8th/9th graders. So this time is impressive for a 12 year old but it’s not spectacular.

I said the exact thing! He looks like an elite sprinter!
Me to. Stride length
...yeah without the starting block too! 👀
He looks older than the other kids lol
I said the exact same thing. He looks like a grown man running against kids.
Some of the comments you guys are putting on here about a kid is straight sickening. You grown under achieving, pathetic individuals get satisfaction by sitting behind a keyboard and undermining an achievement by a kid and will shut your device down, smile and feel good about yourself. No wonder our kids feel under appreciated and devalued. Good Job, the gold medal goes to you. Continue to be great.

Anyone notice that he was the only one not using starting blocks ?
YESSSS BRO
@Doesn't Jump to conclusions kid been doing track from an early age you can tell by looking at the drive phase and form
In this age group using blocks is a detriment. Too many things to think about as you prepare to run and blocks just aren't ingrained enough in their muscle memory for them to be effective. Heck, look how badly some of the best runners in the world are coming out of blocks and they practice it every day.
Damn he definitely been training. Once he hits puberty in MS and HS he's gonna be a top recruit.
How yk he hasn't already
The Kid hasn't even reached puberty yet. That's crazy to think abt.
This is so not true. This 12-year-old is already hitting his peak stages. Regardless of whether he hits puberty or not, he won't get much faster than the pace he is at now. There are many runners such as Jack Boulton who are U17s in Australia and are running 47 flat for the 400 but never get any faster. A coach from The Gambia that trained athletes at the Commonwealth Games in 2000 ran 11.1 but only ever improved his time to 10.5. I am now being coached by him and this was over a 10 year period that his time improved. Regardless of whether one hits puberty, the earlier age you start sprint training, the more the likelihood of peaking at a younger age instead of the prime age of around 22 or 23 (everyone is different). Yes there are the occasional cases of young runners becoming amazing athletes when they start from a young age, but it is scientifically proven that the human body only has a good 7 years of training in it. Usain Bolt started sprinting at age 14 but was already physically developed, by 20 years of age he had become a world champion. These are the facts. This kid won't get much faster.
@@ecobean3440 he already hit puberty thats why right now in high school hes never broke 11 seconds
He had already hit puberty and that’s a big part of why he ran that time. Early matures usually don’t continue to improve at the rate of the truly great runners
No blocks. Dang.
I love the high quality track and electronic timing. My teacher hand timing me, you got 19 secs Jeff, how come sir? I was talking to Miss Bradshaw and missed your finish, never mind it's close enough.
He needs to run with the race he's in, and leave everyone else alone.
Before the race even started I knew the winner by looking at each one body conditions, he looked like he was in better shape than the rest
Wait I just realized I’m standing in the back waiting to race I remember this lmao I ran this with a pulled quad
That happened to my friend in HS he was in crutches for a long time. He told me he arrived late for his race and didn’t have time to warm up. You probably didn’t warm up enough. Sometimes when I run knowing I didn’t warm up enough I feel tight and injury prone so I go back to warming up.
@@MiniNinja258 yep that’s exactly what happened. Forgot to warm up...messed up the whole flow. I’ve definitely learned from that injury though. Now I don’t even try to sprint without warming up first
@@Skillzfr yeah more riskier to not warm up when doing sprint workouts then long distance workouts.
The more intense the workout or race is the more warm ups there should be. Best warm ups are the dynamic stretch workouts I still remember from HS.
Unlucky man, I’m hoping to run this time as a 13
He’s built like a full grown man. It’s very impressive but like most extreme early matures he likely will see less improvement from here. But still very impressive.
How you know his going to have less improvement from here
?
Stfu quit hating
@@leongxchx904 because he will have stunt growth from overtraining. Same happens with gymnastics
@@Swanky723 does great genetics translate to overtraining?
@@leongxchx904
There was no hate in that comment. It made complete sense unlike yourself
@@leongxchx904 Settle down Leon. He wasn’t hating. As you go through this world you see commonly that athletes who are strongly built when they are young normally aren’t very tall when they are older. Coaches look for the kids who aren’t quite as fast but have height.
You can tell he was going to win just by looking at his physique compared to the other kids.
Has nothing to do with the running. Muscles don't make you faster. #1 -He has a gift, #2 - You can tell he worked on his form, which means the kid is doing the work.

Watch the little guys, they are a lot smaller than the winner, they still have to have their growth spurts. They might be the stars of the future.
A national record is a national record. You must be a little guy.
Bro I'm 14 most of these kids are bigger than me. Being fast when you're 12 doesn't equate to being fast when you're 22

Naw he would get smoked by a pro female sprinter. Just this week an Olympic hopeful ran 10.6, nearly a full second faster. Pretty much the gap between him and 2nd place of this race. No shame though, the man can fly and is well on his way to track and field stardom if he continues on this path.

Looking at it realistically, that kid is way further along in the puberty scale than those other boys. I used to coach middle school football and saw this a lot. The others will catch him and pass him, unfortunately.
I remember racing this guy at school when I just turned 12. I was always pretty good at running and a lot of people knew that. I then raced the guy above who was also 12 but he could almost grow a beard at that age and he beat me by about 3 metres. The boasting he did was something I will always remember but within 2 years he never got anywhere close and he lost his advantage of a really early puberty. I also thought he was tall atcthe time but met him a while later and he was about 5ft 7.
Well, he's still 12 years old
@@ayodelealedare6507 True, but surely you know some kids age physically much quicker than others? Obviously not throwing shade on the kid. He's great. But I'd be willing to bet the others catch him and pass him.
@@jeffzuess9149 I coached a kid on year and true story, he literally could bear crawl the 40 yard dash faster than half my team. He was a fully developed human and 12 years old.
