The 77 grain SMK over 24/24.5 grains of RE-15 has been a standard loading for US Service Rifle Competitors at the 200 and 300 yard line for over 20 years from match grade .223 chambered barrels. From my 20 inch CLE .223 chambered barrel I get 2750 fps in standard atmospheric conditions. I use an MOA wind constant of 10 at 300 yards.

While it should be pointed out that .223 pressures are lower than 5.56 no matter the bullet weight, those numbers are still very surprising. I knew 77gr had better terminal effects down range but I didn’t know the performance/“energy on target” would be THAT much better. No wonder everyone (everyone who has used it in a military capacity) has so much preference for it. Crazy difference. Thanks for the video!👍

the 223 & the 5.56 cases are identical in every way.
the primary difference in the cartridges is the 5.56 rds. have approx. 1.75grs. + - more in powder loads.
only the rifles vary as the 5.56 has a longer throat and leades to compensate for the additional fps.

I really liked this video. There’s a lot of CZcamsrs that do the same but at 50 yards. I always wondered what the velocity, accuracy and the impact was at range. This video made it very clear. When you grow your channel which I hope you do, you should do the same testing but with different ammunition and out of different barrel lengths. Thanks for the informative video.

Down range energy of the heavier bullets is amazing! Too bad the 55 grn last shot wasn't centered for better impact comparison. In any case thanks for calculating the only stat that matters - down range energy! Great video!

Shows the huge difference in energy between all 3, 77 defo thumps. Not as much as a 300blk, but it has more range/accuracy advantages for sure.

@@outdooradventures1696 ...69grn SMK BTHP were the best @500 by a long way (Federal GMM). I tried ADI in the same bullet but not as good, I have Sako Racehead to try next. Thank you for the good info. 1 in 9 twist and the 69 grain class of bullets are usually a good combination. Have you tried the 68 grain bullets? They seem to have a little better bc than a lot of the 69 grain bullets. (Although that may not be a true statement in every case…)

@@outdooradventures1696 ...I haven't tried any 68grn yet or heavier but I might have to if we can't get a regular supply of Federal GMM! I couldn't believe how good they were. I took 5 shots @300 to get on bull and the Strelok the elevation @500, plus 1 click for a slight headwind, and it X the bull, and did the same for 5 ex 6 shots. I then realised they are very expensive and we have no UK stock....gutted!

interesting the accuracy/group size is smilar between all bullet weights. I guess your choice of ammo would be dependant on what your puropse was, either punching paper or hunting or maybee a more stable round in windy situations.

Spin and velocity supports marksmanship at long distances from very low drag bullets which need a lot of spin and velocity to remain nose-on to great distances. The bottom line is the greater distances you shoot to the more recognizable the superiority of 77 and 80 grain bullets from a 1/7 twist barrel will become, especially in gusting wind conditions, since light 223 bullets only have an MOA wind constant of about 7 at 300 yards while the 77 grain bullet have an MOA wind constant of 10 at 300 yards.

Would you be willing to do a video like this one illustrating the effects of different AR-15 variant cartridges at longer distances like this? Such as 6.5 Grendel and/or 6mmARC, maybe even the new 300Ham'r if you have an upper chambered in it and some pills for it if you have them?
Also, you posted this video 3 months ago so may/June-ish but your milk jugs expire Oct 20, 2022!? What kind of milk is that?

1:11 won't stabilize the longer boattailed, hollow-pointed bullets. Faster twists are generally better all the way around, unless the bullets are crap.
