  • This is a basic how to DIY video on installing an Avital 3100 Security system into a 1990 Nissan 240sx. I don't go over EVERYTHING in this video but I do cover most of it. I used diagrams as a guide from various sites. Always verify ALL wires with a multimeter. This is part 1 of 2 videos for this installation.

    Thanks for this helpful and easy to follow tutorial! It has cleared up a few questions I had prior to buying the unit and attempting a DIY.

    Glad I got a '69 to install into - much simpler!
    Zip ties to hold tape! That alone is invaluable to me.

      Should be pretty smooth sailing for you on a 69 then. Good luck

    Kudos for having the balls and know how to tackle something like this. I will work on a lot of things but I wuss out at tint and alarm systems.

    Thanks! If you feel like giving it a shot feel free to shoot some questions my way. Tint is something that I CAN do but I hate doing it so I'll usually pay to get that done. I did on this car at least.

    I found your video very knowledgeable ,

  • @DIYAUTOCAR
    @DIYAUTOCAR  Před 11 lety

    If it's the only wire in that 3 pin plug, it would be your horn wire. It's a negative output to your horn when the alarm is triggered. The installation will be similar but wiring will be completely different as it's a different make and model. It is also a very simple car though so it shouldn't be too difficult.

  • @DIYAUTOCAR
    @DIYAUTOCAR  Před 11 lety

    Yeah, you don't NEED to install it, but if the car is getting broken into and the siren wires are cut, the horn would still be going off if you hooked up the horn wire. If not then it'd be silent once they cut the siren wires. The other wires I cut/didn't use were for various things such as aux outputs for trunks, different types of door triggers, hood etc.

  • @DIYAUTOCAR
    @DIYAUTOCAR  Před 11 lety

    The other wires I cut/didn't use were for various things such as aux outputs for trunks, different types of door triggers, hood etc. It depends on the car which wires you'll end up using. Different cars have different options, types of door triggers and things of that nature.

    Quick question is it possible for the alarm not to power on if the ground isn’t grounded right ?

    • @DIYAUTOCAR
      @DIYAUTOCAR  Před 4 měsíci

      It's possible but more often I found that the alarm will do some other weird things with a poor ground vs just not working.

  • @DIYAUTOCAR
    @DIYAUTOCAR  Před 11 lety

    I use heat shrink for other things. It definitely looks nice. With a remote start heat shrinking my connections wouldn't be practical since I'd have to cut each wire that I tapped into in order to slide the heat shrink on.

    Hi DIY,
    Thank you for all the good info but I am having another issue, I installed the alarm about 6 months ago and has been working great but now my car will not turn over and wanted to know how to reset the alarm or can I just disconnect the starter kill wires and will my alarm still work properly with out it hooked up?

    • @kcore8669
      @kcore8669 Před 9 lety

      This did start when my battery died...............

    • @DIYAUTOCAR
      @DIYAUTOCAR  Před 9 lety

      Ken Core Yes, you should be able to just disconnect the cut starter kill wires and put them back together. It should start if that is what the issue is. Does the remote no longer work? Usually if the car won't start after the battery dies then the alarm would also be going off.

    I have a 1973 Datsun 240z the wires you cut do I need them for my application to this car ? I have the alarm hooked up and it doesn't click when armed instead I hear it through one of my factory relays .I up graded to the single prong door triggers instead of the originals and I cant get them to function with the single wire violet or green ,

    • @DIYAUTOCAR
      @DIYAUTOCAR  Před 10 lety

      What part do you want clicking exactly? The door triggers wires the green/violet are to trigger the alarm when it's armed in case of a door opening up and whatnot, are you just having issues with getting it to lock or? Happy to help just need some clarification on what you're having issues with.

  • @DIYAUTOCAR
    @DIYAUTOCAR  Před 11 lety

    There will be some similarities. Make sure to test with a multimeter before connecting anything of course. There are sites out there with references for wiring. the12volt is a good site with free info. But make sure to use it as a guide and test your wires.

  • @MrVinamp

    • @DIYAUTOCAR
      @DIYAUTOCAR  Před 9 lety +2

      MrVinamp Not in this case since I had to test the wires before hooking them up. Many of the same color wires in the car can cause some confusion and even some damage if wires aren't tested/verified before connecting.

  • @javiderek31
    @javiderek31 Před 9 lety

    So I just installed my auto page 350 into my Acura integra. The problem I'm having is my siren won't go off with my horn and my parking lights don't flash when I unlock and lock or when the the alarm goes off. The only way I can get the siren to work is by turning on my lights leaving them on, getting out of the car and Arming the car. Then the siren will go off with the horn but the lights won't flash at all no matter what.
    on the harness there is 5 wires I listed them to how I got them from the Manual. The red/white came tapped into the fused red wire so technically there is only 4 wires.
    1. Red/white wire: parking light relay
    input
    2. Fused red wire: 12v constant
    3. White wire: parking light relay
    output
    4. Brown wire: siren
    5. Black wire: ground
    So on my first attempt 1 and 2 went to 12v. 3 went to my parking lights. 4 went siren. 5 to ground. When I did this i tested the alarm it locked and unlocked but when armed my siren would beep and parking lights flashed with the led inside the car flashing too. The shock sensor wasn't working either. The siren beep of parking lights would shut off until I unlocked the car. So I was stumbled and rewired it I put 1,2,3 all into my parking light wire from my car and my alarm worked fine so I left as that. So as of right now my parking lights don't flash and the siren doesn't go off with the horn. as I stated up top that's my current problem. Thanks

    When you installed the alarm horn you ran the (positive) wire to the brown (+) brake shutdown and the negative to the body right? and did you put a fuse in between the brown wire and the alarm positive wire? and if you did what amp fuse did you use?

    • @DIYAUTOCAR
      @DIYAUTOCAR  Před 10 lety

      No, I ran the positive from the siren to the brown siren wire off of the alarm. The negative went to chassis ground inside the car. No fuse for it since the main unit itself has a fuse on the main power wires. If you're using a 4103, it won't even come with a siren since it's not an alarm though. But if you wanted to connect a siren you could use the brown horn wire to the sirens positive and you'd get a chirp when locking it if you programmed the horn honk on.

    Where does the yellow wire go? And does it has to use a relay to remote start

    • @DIYAUTOCAR
      @DIYAUTOCAR  Před 8 lety

      The yellow was not used. It would be used if I was also adding a remote start to it as a separate unit. (not an ideal way to do it, if you want alarm and remote start then get a unit with it all built into it)

    The wire from where the signal is sent from the key remote came out. It is red on the interior and black on the exterior. It was connected to the clear box behind the break pedal. I was wondering where it connects to.

    Hi, first, is this installation the same for a 91 Acura Integra? Second, what is the brown/black wire for? It comes on a 3 pin harness that plugs in between the primary harness (H1) and the door lock harness (H2)? The installation manual I found does not show it. Thanks for the video. Clean work too.

    Can you explain the purpose of the wires that are not going to be used for in this installation please?
    Also, my brother had his alarm installed a few days ago and I noticed that the head lights and tail lights on his car do not flash when the alarm is armed using the fob.
