10 Free Laser Cut Design Files

- My archive of prototype laser cutter files has been steadily growing over time. I haven't been able to make time in my day to create assembly guides, touch up the designs to make sure they work seamlessly for new laser owners to construct, or to list them in my Etsy Shop.
After a lot of thought and a Poll that I put out here on my CZcams channel, I decided to give away some of my prototype design files for free. I'll explain why in this video and where you can find the files.

Good things come from random acts of kindness for sure. I just found your channel and because of this video I just subscribed. I'm new to the laser engraver and it does help to have people like yourself generously offering design ideas for those of us who don't really have any idea of what to build, we just know it's a funny hobby. In my case it is just a hobby to learn a new way of personal creativity. But sometimes one needs a kick start for ideas to express... ;-) Thanks very much ! Cheers.

Interesting 3 choices in first video I watched after I subscribed and asked if you sell your designs. I am 72 years old and waiting for my first laser to arrive. I haven’t formed or joined a community yet so I have nobody to share your info with yet. I used technology all the time when I was working but now I don’t feel confident to try to learn something so new. I just thought a laser would be a challenge but I am quite nervous about it.
. I am in love with your product designs so I would love to be able to make them but as a newbie I would really would need the ones with instructions. Maybe you could have a two tier system…the design files for free for people who just want to drool over them and use them for free and then a fee (or a Patreon system) for those that need the full file with instructions.

Yes! Picking up any new hobby is challenging and when it's a craft like laser cutting, it's nerve wracking! Thankfully, a lot of new companies are making these tools safer and easier to use than ever before. I remember the first laser cutter I used where it felt like you were entering an industrial site full of warning tape, caution, etc.. Now, these systems are simple to set up and most have guides for getting started. Good luck and have fun creating the free designs!
I have purchased design files that need tweaked or have no instructions and they never work out for me. The cost of the wasted materials is too much for me. But I think it is a great way for you to get more subscribers and make money with your CZcams channel. I know a lot of hours go into your designs and time is money. I wish you continued success and I enjoy your videos.
I’ve had similar experiences with free files and the ones I’m giving away have been made. They also have a video that goes with them. These design files just needed instructions to be made to go with them, which I didn’t get around to creating.
Personally, I think free easy samples are ideal for a trial, otherwise not free for the designs that were hard to create.
That’s a good point and one that I considered. It’s been interesting giving away files on a pay what you want basis. I’m glad to see people trying some of the complex designs along with the simple ones
i dont know, doesnt seem like a binary yes or no to me, sure some designs can be given away as something small and fun just for the passion of it, but if you run a business you are basically trading time for money, if its not selling something your wasting time. This is always the pain point for turning a hobby into a business.
Those are great points! I’ve always felt like selling my designs is the only way to go because of the time + experience = money. If this weren’t a hobby, I’d lean towards selling everything

Not sure what you’re trying to say, but the files have been downloaded by lots of people. They’ve also been made and some have sent photos of the finished product.
Sell them...
It's been interesting to see how many people paid for the files (probably less than 5%) and how many people sent a thank you note (about 10%). Selling the files would've probably made a lot more than the pay what you want model, but I'm glad I have a set of design files that anyone can get and try before buying the ones I sell
I think you are very generous and talented. But $5.00 for a design is not outlandish. So I’ve been trying to convince my self to put my credit card on line in a PayPal account again….it was compromised 3 times and I’ve been reluctant to restart my PayPal account and I think you have just created the perfect venue to reenergize my PayPal account.
