    The Taurus 92 really isn't a knock off, it's a very legitimate redesign, and I honestly think the frame mounted safety is an improvement over the beretta.

    I fired two Baretta 92's back in the day that belonged to friends and it just felt right in every aspect right off the bat. I finally broke down and bought a used Taurus PT-92 AF. I took it to the gun range right after I bought it and it never jammed and was extremely accurate. This is my favorite pistol thus far and will be one of my main target practice pistols; my hat's off to Taurus!!!

    When the Air Force switched from the S&W model 15 .38 revolver to the Beretta M9 I was in heaven. I loved it so much I wanted one. Unfortunately I could not afford a Beretta. Enter the Taurus PT92. The one I purchased was what they called "satin" finished with wood grips. Even back then it was a well built quality gun. It was one of my favorites. Sad to say I no longer have it due to financial issues. Maybe one day I'll have one in my hand again.

      My favorite gun is also a Taurus: the Taurus PT 845. A 12+1 Doubled-Stacked 45ACP Hammer-fired handgun that I purchased for $268 online. And after 1,200 rounds, I have only had 1 failure to fire (cheap reloaded ammo). Taurus is hit of miss at times, but other than a FNJX-45, the PT845 is the only tactical 45 I need. Though I'll never be able to buy a FNX-45 for 3 times what I paid for my Taurus PT845. Anyways I want to get a PT92 next, because I think it's cool to have a Beretta clone that is made by Taurus.

    After finding out where they are manufactured and how the purchase of that plant happened.. I bought one. After years of hearing bad things about Taurus. After a year, and over one thousand rounds through the pipe, it has zero failures. I clean it after every 300 rounds. Great gun, great feel, great action... Haven't been happier with a firearm. Not a carry weapon, far too big. My personal carry is a Sig p238. It's my only Taurus, but since purchase, my fear of the Taurus name is gone.

      the negative things spewed around about Taurus usually only come from gear snobs. Taurus makes great revolvers and this PT92 is also great, quite possibly even better than the Beretta (which I don't like saying because I love the Beretta) I think the Beretta may look a little more "polished" or refined I guess. Either way the Beretta and the Taurus 92 are fantastic pistols

    I'm generally not a fan of Taurus firearms. I've had bad experiences with them BUT I have nothing bad to say about the PT92/99 series. I've owned a Beretta 92FS for several years and while I love it, I can't say it's any better than the Taurus version. I just wish they took the same magazines.

    I have whole vids on Taurus, the reason they make this is because they were the ones making it for Beretta in the Brazil Beretta factory and when Beretta left they sold the factory, manufacturing, machines and designs to Taurus and gave them the rights to manufacture the exact same pistol using the same equipment, specs, designs and even the same workers, in fact there were several Beretta employees who moved to Brazil and stayed with Taurus when beretta left. They are exactly like the Beretta

  • @delandmona
    @delandmona Před 5 lety +2

    I've had a Taurus PT 99 since 1988. It was made in Brazil in the original Beretta factory on the same machines that turned out the Beretta 92's. Taurus moved the safety from the slide to the frame, where it belongs. It is my all time favorite handgun. Smooth as silk, never a misfire or jam, and as accurate as any 9 mm I have ever fired. The PT 92 is apparently just as good.

  • @black79montecarlo123

    Great little gun, well not little lol. I've owned both Beretta and Taurus and I can't find a difference except that the Taurus version has a couple enhancements. Made on the same machinery as the Beretta and just as reliable. I've noticed that most people that bash Taurus products haven't even owned one. I've owned several different models and been happy. I did have trouble from one but Taurus took care of it and threw in a free mag without me asking! And the lifetime warranty is awesome. Most manufacturers don't do that and the ones that do usually only cover the original owner where Taurus goes with the gun.

  • @InSightFreedom

    This was my first pistol. I purchased one back in 1989. I often forget about it in my safe opting for newer and lighter guns but whenever I shoot it I fall in love all over again. It is a sweet and accurate shooter. Most people I let shoot it pick it as their favorite to shoot out of my 7 pistols.

  • @MikeSmith-pq4wz
    @MikeSmith-pq4wz Před 8 lety +19

    I've owned a Taurus PT92 since they first came out in the mid 1980's. I had wanted a Beretta 92 but could not afford one back then. And as you said the safety is in a more natural place like the 1911. I have put thousand of rounds through the pistol and have yet to have one problem. It shoots well and puts the holes were I'm aiming so what more can you ask for in a pistol. I retired the PT92 a few years ago as my carry pistol and now carry a taurus 24/7 G2 Compact and have really enjoyed that gun also. I still like to shoot my PT92 and have been thinking of buying another PT92 but decided to have my old one Cerakoted to make it look like new again. I'm glad I did because it looks like a brand new gun now! You just can't beat a Taurus for the money or the warranty even if it might take them several months to get it back to you but I can say they same thing about sending in my FNH for repairs also. You can't complain to much when all repairs are free!

    Bought my PT92AF back in the late 80's before rails were added and has countless rounds shot through it. Rock solid gun that never had an issue. I will never sell as it is the last gun I shoot every time I am at the range...save the most enjoyable for last. Never changed the wood grips (although I would like to try rubber some day) and the finish is still perfect except for a couple minor scratches. Not my carry gun or home protection gun...just a delightful shooter that makes you feel like a bad ass.

What's really cool is when you fire the final shot in magazine and the slide locks back the laser knows to turn itself off. When new mag is inserted and you drop the slide to feed new round into the tube the laser turns back on! So fucking cool.

    Hi Matt, the pt92 is close to the 92f, I bought a 92f back in the late 70's & due to my job I was required to log my rds. witch stayed with me. Up until two years ago I was at the range 4-5 days a week & 8-10 hrs per day & popping off 400-1000 rds a day. As of Juy of this year I logged 164,240 rds & the only thing I had to do to the 92f is clean it. I never replaced a thing not even a spring & it still runs like new. if your pt92 gives you what my 92f is giving me you will own it for life.

Also, that its basically the same gun,..In fact it was actually a Beretta factory at one time before it was sold to La Forges Puenta ! I've had a Taurus PT92, as an original owner, for over 8 years now and will NEVER get rid of it!
    The pistol is well made and is inherently saf(er) than the Para-Ordnance P14-45 1911 here as the PT92 is a SA/DA pistol. It may be 9mm, but cheaper to shoot than .45 ACP & better than the Beretta M9 that I qualified on in the U.S. military.
    Surplus M9 military / LEO mags work well after minor modification: got those as a cheap as $2 at a local gun show.

  • @Prometheus203
    @Prometheus203 Před 10 lety +1

    Beretta sold Taurus the tooling and factory, these things are made with Beretta machines and are essentially the same exact thing as the 92/M9 with some slight improvements at a better price point. It also has one of the best warranties in the entire gun industry. Out of the hundreds of makes and models of handguns I've fired I still consider my PT92 to be one of the smoothest.

    Just picked up one from my FFL tonight that I got off GunBroker. I got a "good deal" on it and now I see why- finish is toast and it was the filthiest gun I've ever taken apart and cleaned (literally hours). So lubed it well and to the range tomorrow. I used to have a stainless model that I gave to my son as a starter pistol, so I expect it to shoot well. Destined to become my truck gun and will pick up a better one to be my pride and joy. I too love the feel of them, almost as much as my 1911s. My Glocks might be spending more time in the safe soon!

    I have two full sized metal 9 mm's- a Taurus PT 92 stainless, and a CZ 75 SP-01 Tactical. They are both very accurate, feel great in the hand, and are reliable. While the CZ only has a decocker, I like the Taurus' safety/decocker, which allows for Condition 1 carry. The Taurus is the sexiest-looking handgun in the world, but the ergonomics of the CZ can't be beaten- it shoots flatter, with less muzzle rise.

    I bought several PT-92's back in the 1980's when I had my own FFL. Interestingly this model was very inexpensive in those days yet it performed great. My cost on a standard PT-92 (blued, fixed sights), was around $275 delivered to my door back then. I also had a new Beretta 92F and other than possibly being a tad more ergonomic, the Taurus PT-92 shot every bit as well as the Beretta 92F.
    It kills me looking back at how inexpensive these were compared to today!! It's a sin.

    I used to carry the m9 on the job but we switched to the Glock. I liked the beretta but the Glock brought me over to the dark side LOL. So after I got home I decided to get a 92. Went to the store and found a pt92 used for 250 it was brand new practically. The thing that got me too was the safety. I sold mine to fund a rifle build. Got a beretta in a trade and hated it. :-(

    I have a pt99af. I wish mine had a rail. Also it is a 80s model and the it does not have the decocker. But I could not be happier. My dad gave me this gun and in the 80s he owned 2 M9s and 2 PT99AF and he actually sold the M9s because the Taurus was a flat out better gun. he gave me this pt99af 5 or 6 years ago and I've shot well over 3000 rounds through it with 2 malfunctions witch were magazine related. One day I really do wanna get one with the rail and decocker but I've have my eye on my dream handgun so it's gonna have to wait until after I get the P226 TACOPS.

    My neighbor passed away and I received his gun after his passing. I appreciate him doing that for me of course but I much prefer my Glock to this gun. It feels solid and well made but if I shoot the first shot double action, the second trigger pull is much easier since the hammer is now back. I prefer double action only such as used on the Glock so I have the same trigger pull each time. I like the simplicity of the Glock in case the situation is under stress. But, like I said, it feels rugged and well made.

    Once you've really "Tried" them out, spent a few hours at the range and put a few hundred rounds down range, most shooters that I know (about 95%) just love handling a "full size service 9mm".
    The five inch barrel, longer sight radius and weight. All come together to make it an accurate and pleasant gun to shoot. And, of course; if you have full confidence in both your gun AND your abilities to shoot it with accuracy, your prepped and ready for most any situations your likely to encounter!
    BE SAFE !

    The problems they had with the M9 was that they were biased against it because they were used to the .45 caliber 1911 and hated the idea of downgrading to a 9mm. What'd they do then? They used high-pressure sub machine gun ammo, causing catastrophic failures. Eventually, this was brought to light, but not before much peddling on Beretta's part.
    source: My dad worked for Beretta from 1993-2005, spending the former 9 years at the Accokeek factory.
