- Przemyśl is one city in Poland that all tourists should come and see first hand. It's by far one of the top 5 places to visit. Super underrated in my opinion. Three hours from Krakow and near the Ukrainian border, this city is the gateway to the south eastern part of Poland.
Join me as I take you on a walking tour of this historic city. In this first part of four, we will check out the train station, the Austrian-Hungarian influenced buildings, and old town. While we traverse old town, we will visit four different churches and check out several monuments on our way to the San River and my hotel.
This is a great introduction to this epic city. You can get an idea on places to go and things to see. Trust me, it's a great place. Let me know what you think.

Glad you liked our city, greetings from Przemyśl citizen.

Thank you very much!
My home town...Love it!!!
@dariusznastal6487 It's a great city :)
I love looking at Przemyśl from a different perspective, thank you for your kind words about this city and I hope you can back to this town again! Greetings from Przemyśl 😁
I hope so too! @The Hogaty
Przemyśl is the second-oldest city (after Kraków) in southern Poland, dating back to the 8th century.[4] It was the site of a fortified gord belonging to the Ledzianie (Lendians),[5] a West Slavic tribe. In the 9th century, the fortified settlement and the surrounding region became part of Great Moravia. Most likely, the city's name dates back to the Moravian period. Jan Długosz states that the founder of the city was Prince Przemysław and the name of the city comes from his name. According to legend, the prince went hunting and in the place where he hunted the bear founded a settlement with a bear in the coat of arms.
@parch123456 thanks for watching and sharing. I'm familiar with the legend as I shared it in the vlog. :)
I've been there twice helping W.C.K. make food for, & feed, Ukrainian Refugees. Both Kraow & Przemyśl are BEAUTIFUL!!! The underground tunnel, the bunkers, the history, scenery, fog in the mornings off the river after rain, so much history & beauty. Citizens are very hospitable. Police, not so so much. But worth a visit. I miss being there.
Welcome to my fab home town🙏🏻😍 Hope you enjoyed it
@magsrejman6045 one of my favorite places to visit in Poland.
@@TravelwithMrJon it is? What got you hooked? I haven’t been home for the past 8 years and it was so fun to watch you walking around.
I just enjoyed the energy of the city. Between the history, the churches, walking the streets, and the river, was magical for me. @@magsrejman6045
@@TravelwithMrJon really cool to hear. The history is kinda insane for such a small city. You have to ready Darda books about Przmysl (its fiction with some elements of history). PS. I grew up on the Soviet Union side of the city😊 Well, luckily it was years after.
You grew up on the fun side :) Lucky you. I will have to check out Darda when I have time. Thanks.@@magsrejman6045
Przemyśl held a strategic significance over the years. The history of this city and its fort is amazingly and overwhelmingly juicy and then some..
Thank you for showing this beautiful town Jon.
Cheers man! Respect! :)
@presentalinkwalterbak2426 you are most welcome. Thanks for watching. I did a second vlog just walking around the fort and to the mound. History alone the city is a great place to visit.
Hello Jonathan,
Thank you for this video about my „beloved Home”!
I was born and had lived in this city for 18 years. I’m living in Canada now, in Ontario (33 years!) and I’m always home sick!
Your knowledge of the polish history is amazing! Your interest in this subject is worth of the great admiration!
I’m so happy that person from other ends of the earth found this “Subcarpathian pearl”! This city, is over one thousand years old with very interesting history, is dearest to my heart! I’ve spent many years in Warsaw (Warszawa), and many others: polish and in other countries, but I’m proud of being “native Przemyślanka”, my last time in Home was in 2019. I want to go there one more time in my life…
I’m glad you have shown many beautiful churches; Przemyśl is also know as “ little Krakow”, because of the amount of the churches….
The world is really very small , this polish proverb is very true!
All the the best! Christie
@ABC-20 Thanks Christie for your comments. I am glad you found this video. I actually did four from the city to show more of it off. I wouldn't even compare the city to Krakow, as I liked it much more...there's something about the history of the city and the energy that is very pleasant for me. Will definitely go back again in the future. and hope you are able to do that same.
Some people translate Przemyśl as "think over" it is more as "think twice" before you do it or "reconcider", "have another good look" to be precize. There is reason why Polish language is so hard, we can very quickly figure out if person was rised in Poland or not. Przemyśl City is where many famous Polish peope were born and went to schools, I am not famous but proud to pick secondary school there. Great memories from my teenage time.
@maximmono1 I like the story about the old woman telling the other villagers to think it over...and then it was like let's use that for the name :) Glad you have good memories of the area. It's quite beautiful and I like the fact it's a smaller city and in a serene area.
I would love to go to Przemysl I have never been there and is my next palce to go:)
@lalka555 as you saw in this video plenty of churches and I only showed the ones in the center. I made a few other Przemysl with another church sighting and an entire cemetery tour :) Let me know what you think. czcams.com/video/OsHmhU6giR0/video.html
It's beautiful alright! Been there 10 years ago
Thank you for valuable and informative vlog. You looked so happy visiting Przemyśl. I've seen other vlog and subtitles said "shemash" and I thought it can be Przemyśl so not that bad...😉🌷
@iww6994 thank you for watching. I love the city. Second time there :)
Hi Johnathan!
It is real pleasure to see that someone from the other end of the world can come here and appreciate our painful history and all the places that are our silent witnesses to what has happend in here....
While so many people try to dissort our history, every brave person that is not afraid to say loud and clear the truth, is very valuable to us.
Therefore please accept our gratitude!
We appreciate very much your time and effort to make other people to see the whole picture, and the beauty of our town.! ❤️ May Good bless you and your love ones!
Best regards
Aga
@agnesjaroch1 thank you for your kind words. Poland is a must visit for me and really should be for others. It's more than just food and culture, but has such a rich history. I agree with you, it's important for others to know the truth. Can't wait to get back to Poland next week.
I know the place very well & there's nothing epic about it!
@elliottdefoe9615 too each their own.
@@TravelwithMrJon Hariy Muff Jon but I don't think it's fair to sell a far better picture of somewhere than what it really is. It could cost people a lot of time & money to get there. And as you can see in the video, there's not much more to see. If people think Przemysl is an amazing place, then wow, just wow!
If you are already in Poland, it's worth a look. I've been there three times. I'm not saying if you are in the USA hop on the plane and visit. Then again we all have different tastes and interests. @@elliottdefoe9615
@@TravelwithMrJon Okay Jon, I understand your point.
Very good and interesting video. Been there a few times as my girlfriend is from there, its a very nice town. Going there at Christmas to see her mum.
@dbergkampafc lucky guy, enjoy the trip...I was there in December and loved it especially when the snow covered everything.
@@TravelwithMrJon Thanks, be good to go then staying at Krakow first then going there. Yes I bet, looked nice in photos we got from my girlfriends mum.
Przemysl - think it over
It's better than many Polish cities :)
Thats the melaniny on polish ;)
'Przemyśl to' It literally means 'Think about it'
Myśl is a thought.
Prze indicates to over do it or in this case Thinking over or think about it.
@wiesawbak4039 thank you for breaking the word down :)
Think over!
if you go into the catholic church over the river in zasanie the tile floor has swastika motifs
@rover100bunson wow, I didn't know about that church. Will have to take a look one day when I return. Thanks.
Premysl = think about it.
@edwardkaras1776 thank you so much. That's right...The story went let's think about it...they said okay, that will work. Premysl :)
Not really. Proper translation of "Think about it/that" would be "Pomyśl o (tym)" not "przemyśl" alone. Besides "Przemyśl (to)" is more "Think it (over)" not "think about (it/that)". In the case of "think about (that/it)" Polish "Pomyśl (o tym)" would be closer.
@@VoidCosmonaut but still they would need to think it over, ie the name. As they didn't have any names, this one stuck. At least that was one legend about the origin of the naming.
@@TravelwithMrJon Yeah. Polish is wierd to comprehend by anglophones. Not impossible to though.
As a Pole i can naturally see the difference before Pomyśl and Przemyśl.
Really there is a huge difference between those two.
"Pomyśl" ie in "Pomyśl o mnie"... (keep my bussines in mind) is totally different from "Przemyśl to" (as You get an offer and i ask youe to think about it through)
There is electric lighting during the service😉🌷
The word przemyśl means think about it
That's right, to think about it :) @babahabakuka5737
Brev its the Katyn massacre not Catan
My Polish is poor. But I know how to spell it out.
"Jan Długosz reports that the founder of the city was Prince Przemyslaw and the name of the city comes from his name. According to legend, the prince went hunting and in the place where he hunted the bear he founded a settlement with a bear in the coat of arms." So no, Przemyśl does not mean anything in polish. It came from dukes' name "Przemysław".
@Kermin00 but the duke's name the origin is different. I don't know, I heard two different tales.
I've just read one of the comments under your last episode from Przemyśl and someone correctly pointed out that "przemyśl" means "think it through" in polish. As a someone who lives here, i always forget about that 😅
@@Kermin00 It's all good. :)
IAMYOURBIGGESTFAN!
@AccelerantPlays thanks for watching.
Dzielny wojak Szwejk!😊
That's the soldier's name? :)
@@TravelwithMrJonYes, brave soldier, Szwejk („Shveyk”)….
@@ABC-20 That's his name :)
Hi Jon, In direct translation name Przemyśl means think over mostly in reference to the behavior, thoughts or words, used wrongly either intentionally or unintentionally. Hope that will help understand it little bit better.
@kris_toff thanks :) I realized it after I posted the video. Still kind of a cool origin story of an old woman telling the others to think it over :)
@@TravelwithMrJon yes it is. Perhaps there was once a village and she was telling that to the attackers by trying to prevent from being attacked and while repeating over and over could be successful and so that's how the name of future town was created. Just a thought of my luxuriant imagination😁. Are you currently in Poland? If not when are you planning to be there again?
Not currently in Poland, sadly. It looks like right now will be back in Poland either end of December for holidays or mid February. My school year starts now in USA@@kris_toff
@@TravelwithMrJon I also travel between US and Poland, usually 2-3 times a year, sometimes 4 if I'm lucky 😁. I'm going again Dec. 18th but possibly in September for a few weeks too. Maybe we could meet there one day. I'm usually staying in woj. podlaskie, about 30km North of Białystok.
4 times would be lucky. I'm still working on dates for my next trip over. Can't decide yet on end of December or February. I don't know about you but I feel bad going just for a week so I'm trying to maximize time. 30km of Bilaystok, wow, that sounds exciting.@@kris_toff
