    My very 1st experience hearing a JL Audio Subwoofer was when i was sitting in my friends lil Honda Civic hatchback. He had a Pioneer head unit, Alpine Amplifier, and 1 JL Audio W6 10" Subwoofer in a front ported enclosure. Man i tell you what....nothing sounds like a JL! Nothing can crack the Bass notes like their speakers can! Just an Excellent, high quality product! They are 2nd to none in my opinion! Infinity is a close 2nd but no one does it like these guys do down in Florida! JL audio components are made with pride here in the U.S. and it shows!

      I've owned lots of JL Audio gear, from the 8W2vw to the 12W6v3, C5 speakers and many other amps, sub and speakers amps.
      They OK. But my sub £500 C5 speakers were outdone by my Morel Tempo 6 speakers, and the 12W6v3 which is near £600 was far outdone by the first gen Sundown SA12 which cost me £175. The SA had far better output and far, far better control when it came to SQ.
      As for JL being made in America, .. well that nonsense has been debunked ... by JL's own literature:

      _The parts come from the U.S. and overseas. There isn't a single U.S. made speaker that uses all U.S. parts anymore. For example, there are no magnet producers in the U.S.A. at this time. They all closed up in the 90's._
      _Manville Smith_
      _JL Audio_
      --------------------------------------------------------------
      I think the phrase they now use, goes along the lines of (paraphrasing)
      "Components sourced overseas, built in the U.S."
      In other worlds;
      "Made in China, glue together in Florida."
      At least Sundown, DD and others have the decency to be upfront about their gear.
      I love JL amps, but the speakers and sub are ... meh!
      You might want to have a rethink about the MIA part in your comment, as JL, by their own admission, obviously disagrees with you.
      All the best

    You've asked for some new product ideas- a high xmax 5- 6" subwoofer with a high mass cone designed for ported enclosures. My theory is that the ported enclosure would allow the heavy cone to travel easily and that the enclosure would be secured to the vehicle and act as a transducer that causes the body of the vehicle to resonate- thus feeling the bass. The port would also allow for a more audible experience than a traditional transducer can provide. Ideally, the design of the driver would be shallow depth. I also believe it would be rather inefficient with the extra mass of the cone, so a single 2 ohm voice coil may be the answer in trying to exploit the amplifier. My idea came from viewing the incredible performance of tiny subwoofers within Bluetooth portable speakers such as the UE BOOM and MEGABOOM. I also imagine that such a driver could make an interesting micro version of the JL Gotham active subwoofers. And hopefully much more affordable. :-)

      When it comes to SPL competitions, that's pretty easy, and JL doesn't win any comps. As for SQ, ok it's more subjective, however, JL Audio SQ comps: nil-pwa

      Going by the common rule of thumb of:
      Low QTS = vented
      High QTS = sealed
      The TW1 would certainly fit into the sealed category ... not that I take a singular parameter and work off that anyway ... as no singular parameter works in isolation of the rest, or the enclosure the driver is going into, or the environment the enclosed driver is going into ... and the fact that some parameters aren't a constant!

      Hey, Gary. I looked around a little bit for the airspace of your current enclosure but was unable to find the specs. The 10" Tw1 requires a net internal volume of 0.35cf or 9.91L for a sealed enclosure like the one you have.
      you would have to be sure the airspace was right. If not, you can email or call our tech support team and they will design an enclosure for your vehicle and you can take the design to an authorized dealer and have the enclosure built.
      Thank you for reaching out to us and I hope this information was helpful.

      Well, TW1 is 300 rms. TW3 is higher, as he said. The sub box for TW1 is smaller than that of TW3. They lowered the woofer speaker giving the TW1 woofer the same movement but looks more flush when mounted.
      You need to look deeper than this guy talked about. The cone material. The surround material. How fast the speaker moves and recovers after each note. Ex: songs with double bass kicks sound best when movement and woofer material can “keep up”.
      I think this vid was about shallow subs and people who prefer them.
      I’ve got two 12’s in an enclosed box for tight, deep bass. They’re fed by a jl audio 600/1 amp and friggin sound GREAT!!! They’re 7 years old, as is the amp. I think today’s tech into subs is superior.
      I guess it depends on the space you have and the sound/flexibility you want from your sub. You don’t need two. One 12” or one 15”.

      @Etrigan Seven, the 12TW3 has more excursion and greater cone area than the original 12W6. You could do a pair of dual 4 ohm 12TW3's and wire them in series/parallel at 2.6 ohm for a great set up. The XD1000/1v2 would be a good amplifier match.

    Where is the 8 inch version? It would be nice to fit for a customer that has a Outlander Sport or a Chevy Spark which is small to say the least to fit more than just one subwoofer in a fiberglass box in the rear quarter panel. That Crappy 10 inch sub they offer from factory sucks and is not dynamic enough for my taste. Thumbs down to Rockford Fosgate.

    • @Forevermct1
      @Forevermct1 Před 8 lety

      Well to answer you question. To be frank and true. Most optional upgrades in any car that is factory does not do well at least in my case Mitsubishi chose Rockford as their OEM company to put in their vehicle. You would think by this and glad I did not pay that junk, the Sound stage would above sub-par and the sub woofer itself would blend well with the speakers in this case it does not.
      Aftermarket is key cause you can customize everything. My route is if you cannot go aftermarket then work with what you got. Bose is ok. At least they time align and use crossovers to give you some what decent sound.
