    Nice video, I just installed a sub in my JL and followed your instructions. Worked perfectly. The remote turn on and high level inputs are exactly as you explained.

    I also don't have the Alpine system and I agree that the factory stereo sounds really crappy. I was hoping someone would do an install like you did. I'm going to try it in my JL Thanks for sharing 👍

  • @Strizzle81

    Nice job...I had the same base sound setup in my wrangler jl and initially added the jl audio 8" powered sub in the same location on the opposite side hooked up to a bass knob up front near the emergency brake. It filled in the bass, but the factory front and soundbar speakers aren't good. The key to getting it sounding good was making the speaker enclosures bigger to fit Hertz 5.25" components up front and 5.25" coaxials in soundbar powered by a 4 channel alpine pdr-f50 under the driver seat. To get a clean signal, all of this is ran through a jl fix 86 sound processor hidden under the steering wheel behind the plastic trim piece. I kinda wish I went with the bigger jl audio 10" 400 watt powered sub bc I have my input sensitivity at 80% and bass turned up all the way most of the time. One annoyance is jeep setup the bluetooth volume to default at volume level 15 and when the speakers are amplified, I manually turn down the bluetooth volume to 10 or so every time you make/receive a call or else it's too loud. Jeep needs to allow the radio to remember the last bluetooth volume level and stay on it. My system sounds better than the factory alpine, but cost more.

    Hey man, why didn't you go for a ported box. My sound system guy recommended this for my jeep because when I decide to take the top off, the sealed wouldn't be able to deliver the same bass as the ported.

Can you tell me which wiring kit you used, I want wire this bad boy up in my 4Runner when the sub gets delivered. @crimsonghost411 Před 4 lety +1

    I have a different powered sub but I’m guessing the install is th same. I have the 7 inch base. By tapping into the sound bar speakers does this mean you don’t need to add a LOC?

    • @christiangsusrocks
      @christiangsusrocks Před rokem

      you only need to add a loc if the current coming from the soundbar speakers is more than your amplifier input can handle.

      you can use a voltage meter to test that

    • @christiangsusrocks

      the wires from the soundbar go to the amplifier not the subwoofer. You connect rca wires to the soundbar which runs to the amp. then the amp to the subwoofer.

    Hey man I was thinking about installing an amp with a subwoofer. I called Best Buy just for some advice they told me that the uconnect system will not work with the high input. They said you have to add a ceramic capacitor or something like that is that true?

    • @MohawkDaveOffRoad
      @MohawkDaveOffRoad  Před 5 lety +1

      Works like a charm. No capacitors needed of any sort. Good luck, Best Buy install bay is a joke. I've had them build a 9000w soundsystem with a custom show enclosure in my Durango years ago. And they hacked the crap out of it. They used Bondo to seal the boxes too.... well bondo lasted 2 days with 9000w of subwoofer.... long story short stay away.

    You dont need to run a remote wire when using high inputs

    • @MohawkDaveOffRoad
      @MohawkDaveOffRoad  Před 2 lety +1

      In most cases you don't. Unfortunately the way the U-connect functions the JL amp does not pick up to start processing the signal the correct way. Spent a long time on the phone with them...

      @@MohawkDaveOffRoad Thanks for all your answers. My Rockville sub (built-into the speaker housing) has a POS, a NEG and a REMOTE power input - is the REMOTE input where I run the cig lighter remote wire to? (obviously I still need power and ground wired too - correct?) And what gauge wire should I use?

    • @MohawkDaveOffRoad
      @MohawkDaveOffRoad  Před rokem +1

      @@detroitmannc that is exactly correct. You don’t need a heavy gauge wire for the remote. Thin gauge works great as the amp is only using it to sense voltage and there is almost no load on that wire. Good luck.
