    Cool, perhaps consider polymer electrolytics, they have lower ESR than aluminium electrolytics. Great at absorbing ripple and smaller, lighter, longer life but a bit more expensive.

    Sounds like a really good deal! you have to make sure that their not rewrapped coming from China. They have used shrink wrap Rubicon labels in place of the Cheap cover!

    as well as practicality, I love the way caps look on a copter. Makes them look more badass and industrial.

    I Don't know if you are aware the 1000uF/35V capacitors linked are YXL type which have much higher ESR value according to their specs.

    I run a 35v 470uf Panasonic cap on each of my KISS24 amp ESCs, on my Chameleon and it makes my quad sooo smooth, It's really noticeable. I did it at first to clean up a bad video signal, and it did not help, but I noticed how smooth it made my quad, so I kept them on. Bad video turned out to be antenna grounding on the Aluminum bracket they provide.(O-Ring smashes and does not last long) I moved antenna to carbon top plate and so it did not touch the Aluminum and it cleared up instantly.

    Authentic panasonics or Elna's usually sport the lowest ESR in all categories(goes back and forth between these two). However, counterfeits are abundant.

  • @randomwisdom845
    @randomwisdom845 Před 6 lety +1

    Caps are tricky thing, some of the better more expensive ones are used by hi-fi audio enthusiasts known as audiophiles and sometimes musicians who mod their instruments. Also by audio manufacturers. And what happens is that some particular cap gets popular by an audience who can pay more. And the price rises. And most of the time you can get same specs cap twice as cheap, but it’s not known or accepted in audio industry. For quads we should keep away audio caps as they are more expensive due to usually false perception of “better” sound :) Remember those guys who say 100$ HDMI cable has better sound and video comparing to 10$ one. But we know the data is sent digitally and no HDMI cable will make bass deeper :)

    • @KrotowX
      @KrotowX Před 6 lety

      Not the same if we talking about low ESR capacitors. Regular electrolytic capacitors aren't that good for ripple current filtering (which we need to get rid of ESC noise in FPV video) than low ESR ones. Because of that they are 4-5 times more expensive.

    • @randomwisdom845
      @randomwisdom845 Před 6 lety +1

      Yes, for the low ESR, but there are some manufacturers, which are targeting to audio maniacs like Vishay, Audio Note or the old Elna's. Rubycon's and Panasonics will be trashed by audio guys, but they work perfectly OK on quads. And audio guys can create and believe to so much pseudo-science, I just can't believe :D Most of them don't even know what equipment is used in studios to record their music they want to "recreate" best on their $30000 speaker set :)

    Maybe you could/should look into testing other types of caps to use instead of or piggyback with the electrolytic caps such as film or ceramic caps?! Might be super valuable info. ;) :)

    Great video, interesting stuff, thx! What do you think, are higher caps (eg. > 1000uF) preferable? And are 35V caps really enough for the voltage spikes we see in modern esc with 5S?

    matek should definitely MORE FOCUS ON THE QUALITY of their F405 AIO !!! I did purchase four matek AIO FC, 1 from eliexprass and 3 from banggood. eliexprass - the fc was junk, I got replacement which was junk as well. banggood - first one is ok with 1 cap, the second one can fly only with 5 !!!!! caps, the third one is just installed in to the new build which is not done yet. so far my result is that every second matek's aio fc is faulty, nothing to be proud at.

    I always wondered what low ESR means. I have a bunch of capacitors and with a component tester I found out I got values like 0.2 - 0.3 ohm or values like 0.07 - 0.19 ohm. Is low ESR the later interval? Can you be more specific what ESR value is good for filtering out noise in FPV systems?

    when i seen my capacitors are made by a company called chong, i kinda lost heart a little... hehehe i dont have noisy video but i do have the black lines permanently on my fpv, i think its from my rx since it doesnt change during flight. and capacitors dont seem to address that kinda rf noise

    • @3000gtwelder
      @3000gtwelder Před 6 lety +1

      Check to see if your antenna is touching the frame or any metal. I had the same problem on my Chameleon, and almost swore it off forever because I could not get any video Tx to work without lines no matter how many caps I used. I swore it was because my FC Rx and video Tx were to close, but it was just the antenna touching. I had same black lines that didn't change also.

    • @TheMadmacs
      @TheMadmacs Před 6 lety +1

      ah thanks, i was just thinking and my vtx antenna is touching my top deck... i'm almost positive theres no lines before i put the quad together so i should pay attention next time i have to dismantle the frame, my rx is verticalon my top deck and one under the arm pointing forward, like most people do now.. and my vtx is straight out the back

    • @3000gtwelder
      @3000gtwelder Před 6 lety

      I run the same configuration. I found it was ok for my antenna on my Chameleon to touch the top deck, it was just when it touched the Aluminum for some reason or went through the hole for the antenna, it had bad lines. I had the same lines on my Martian II, and I separated the brass connector from touching the top plate with 3M double stick and it still did not help. I changed the antenna to a new one and it went away on that quad lol.

      i have the inmortal T crossfire antenna attached in the arm, and i have gorizontal noise, also in a Chameleon frame :S I don´t know what can it be. I have capacitor 1000UF 25V, and the TBS UNIFY PRO is with foam, not touching the carbon fiber :S. Also the vtx antenna maybe touching the aluminium black deck/ piece? Any suggestion please?

  • @chemistt
    @chemistt Před 6 lety

    Hey man, you are probably familiar with Kabab FPV. You both offer interesting ideas to check and lately he mentioned something that you may be able to look at. He said that braided (maybe also twisted) cable running from ESC to Motor makes it harder for ESC to read motor state. It makes sense :) But is it something that could really affect the performance?

    • @chemistt
      @chemistt Před 6 lety

      Drone Hero's agree on all that you said. I am always cutting wires for perfect fit, and I am twisting them to minimise the EM radiation and the effect it has on electronics onboard. But the idea presented was that if you twist those 3 wires that goes from ESC to MOTOR that it would introduce more noise to those wires thus the ESC would have harder times to guess what is motor doing.

    • @KNGTTO
      @KNGTTO Před 6 lety

      what do you mean by twist? soldering in no straight line? Thank you.

    Buying low ESR capacitors in AliExpress, Banggood or Ebay is the same than throw that money avay. Unfortunately low ESR capacitors must be purchased from trusted sources - even Amazon doesn't qualify for that.

      Known international online shops are Mouser, Digikey and Farnell. In Europe also Conrad and Elfa. If your city have electronic component store then go there. if you know someone in your surroundings who are in electronic repair business, ask him - he probably will know other stores in your surroundings where to get legit low ESR capacitors. Also check the list of known low ESR capacitor manufacturers and series in end of post in Oscar Liang's blog - goo.gl/iKfBZf

    • @rich1051414
      @rich1051414 Před 6 lety

      Big business in china to rewrap caps and sell as what they aren't. It is not in Amazon, ebay, or banggood's interest to scrutinize every item offered, and support the buyer beware line of thought. Mouser and digikey do not function this way and make sure all inventory is traced directly back to the source.
      Nichicon are the biggest offenders, with panasonic pulling in a close second. Rubicon isn't a 'valuable' enough brand to make it worth it, for now, so you are less likely to find counterfeits of them.
