  • Saddling western- latigo tying method.
By request I’ve made this video detailing how to tie the latigo on your western saddle.
I prefer tying the latigo over using the holes and cinch ring tongue to secure my saddle primarily because I feel I can be more considerate of the horse this way. Note the horse used to demonstrate stands quietly tied at the trailer during the saddling process. If you have trouble getting your horse to stand relaxed when tied or relaxed to accept a saddle or cinch those are separate training issues. I can provide other videos demonstrating how I work with teaching my horses to stand quietly and to accept tack, grooming process etc.

Good comment on the breast collar and rear cinch being off before main cinch, seen a few wrecks in my day from folks just not having enough common sense around horses in general.

Yes sir! At the least your saddle can get busted up, and also puts horse and others at risk. Thank you for watching and commenting!

If only there were a buckling system that would make this work so much better than a knot…

Well gee you know there is! The reason I don’t use the “buckling system” is because it causes people to force the cinch tight abruptly to get the tongue of the cinch ring to a certain hole and with the pressure much lower, pulling the horse off balance and potentially creating a “cinchy” horse. This method works more smoothly for me and I have done it this way for over 40 years. You can do whatever works best for you, I’m sharing my experience. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment. 🤠
