  • In this video Graydon and I will be showing you how to install a Forge Diverter Valve into his 2010 Volkswagen GTI with a 2.0L TSI engine. After installing the catless downpipe the stock plastic diverter valve broke and the engine would not hit proper boost levels. This is a common problem with the GTI's of this era.
    You'll need a 5mm allen head socket to remove and install the diverter valve. As well as some medium strength loctite to seal some ports in the vacuum/boost line adapter.
    Graydon runs an auto detailing company called Gray J's Auto Detailing in the lower mainland. He is based out of Langley B.C but is mobile so he can come to where ever your are.

    For anyone watching this and trying to get the diverter valve out/new one in I recommend quarter inch ratchet with a 3" extension , 5mm Allen bit on the end. That's skinny enough to be able to maneuver around things easily, and get the ratchet head square to the bolts. I found myself in all sorts of interesting positions, but I got to the two bottom most bolts with my feet pointing towards the front of the car and my head close to right underneath the valve. Top most bolt is most easily tackled from outside the wheel well area. Takes some gymnastics if you're just on jack stands but you should be able to get to it from that side. Prepare yourself for some frustration.

      @@Calvinm thanks for the video! Helped me save some money and now I have a better understanding of how my car works too. Hoping my experience helps put people on the right path if they don't have a box full of tools at their disposal. Cheers!

    Nice video and cool mod. Did similar to my s3 and loving it. Does make you build boost purely to get the sound though lol

    Also, if there were any lads who live at home watching this, in their bedroom as either of their parents were in earshot. I predict an interesting dinner later.

    Do you know what the diameter of the vacuum line is? I want to service by dv valve but I dont have the extra vacuum line

    • @Calvinm
      @Calvinm  Před 3 lety

      Pretty sure it's 3/16". Best to take the diverter valve to the parts store to match the port size to the right size vacuum hose.

    You always want to let your engine get up to temperature before you rev it like that with a petrol turbo car. Your turbo runs with oil from your engine and when cold that oil isn't running freely. You can damage your turbo. Did sound cool though.

    Does this damage your turbo?

    I installed a BOV on mine with a cts intake. But mine doesn’t flutter. It sounds more like a psss sound when let off? why might this be?

    • @Calvinm
      @Calvinm  Před 5 měsíci +1

      The flutter noise was a random occurrence. It should sound like a psss when working correctly.

      The car shouldn't go " stututu" that damages the turbo, it sounds awesome but reduces the life of your turbo, the mk6 gti comes stock with a diverter valve which is better for the turbo as it recirculates the air into the MAF to hold boost a little longer when you let off the gas pedal, The "stututu" sound is the air not having anywhere to go so it escapes back out the turbo which is the awesome sound you hear. But that pressure is what kills the turbo over time. The diverter valve that is stock is really quite and there are upgrades that you can do to the stock diverter valve to make your "psshhh" sound louder and to hold extra boost pressure once you start upgrading power. A blowoff valve on the other hand is a downgrade for the GTI since it releases all built boost without recirculating it like the oem diverter valve does. Keep the diverter valve and you can rebuild it (the diverter valve) with parts from GFB, cobb etc. There are videos that explain what i mean.
