    Excellent video!
I’ve had my 14 gti for a year and ABSOLUTELY love it! I’m at 89k miles and not a single issue except ignition coils and a PCV replacement. The biggest thing I have to say with these cars is CHECK THE OIL FREQUENTLY! Every 900-1000 miles mine goes down a little past half a quart. It’s like clockwork.
Second big one is to check the PCV, every fill up. I personally check around the PCV for leaks. You can tell it’s bad by starting it, and unscrewing the oil cap. If it starts to idle rough and you feel the cap being sucked back in, then it’s bad. It’s very important to replace it soon or it blows the rear main seal.
These cars get such a bad rep for reliability when all it comes down to is preventive maintenance and research. The only 2 things that will fuck your day and your bank account on this car is the timing chain tensioner grenade, and the bipolar mechatronics unit. If you get the DSG, change the oil every 30k miles. Trust me...it says 40k, but mine was low after 30k. This is the main reason the Mechatronics unit fails. If you’re lucky the clutch pack will fail before it does.
Lastly, I’d like to reiterate to new mk6 owners...once again...please keep an eye on the oil. If your lifters sound louder than normal, check the oil, if you have any doubt, check the oil. Don’t be that guy/gal who ends up browsing eBay for used 2.0 TSI engines.
    FAQ:
Whats the clear fluid leaking from the passenger side of my car?
    AC draining...
EPC light flashing, car spuddering, what’s wrong with it?
    Check the Ignition coils.
I feel a noticeable loss in power and less gas mileage, why is that?
You may need a carbon cleaning.
Pool of oil near the middle of my car, what’s wrong with it?
Rear main seal may have gone.
What’s the slick oily dirt around my engine?
Valve cover may need to be reglued. You heard that right, the Mk6 doesn’t actually use a gasket it uses a glue. Why??? Because German. 😂
Those are just a few issues I’ve seen from personal experience. If anyone has any questions feel free to ask me! 😎

Perfect choice for your wife! We bought one new back in 2011. My wife drives it and still loves it. Pretty much the same thinking as you -- cute/easy car for the wife that's also fun for the husband. I've actually tracked her GTI a few times (she made me promise to bring it back in one piece) and it's surprisingly fun. As you mentioned in your video, you can get some lift-throttle oversteer in certain corners. One thing to watch out for in earlier model years is the timing chain tensioner. We're over 80k miles on ours and will need to address it before 100k. Other than that, pretty reliable overall with regular maintenance. At some point we'll need to replace it with a crossover/SUV, but will be enjoying it until then!

Cool review, good choice! I have a 2014 Mk6 GTI Drivers Edition (5 door) - the final batch built in Wolfsburg. Original owner with 116K miles and still a blast to drive. Had to replace the intake manifold at around 90K miles due to known issues around carbon build up (some VINs covered under extended warranty). Otherwise, it’s been a great car, even with a family. I even did a personal review of it on my channel. My other car is a Chevy SS sedan, fun pair of cars!

Too funny, I love it. I had a 2010 GTI in gray, sold it years ago. (Sold the Euro tails separately). It was APR Stage 1. Recently I bought a white 2011 GLI. Both manual. The GLI had 174k miles, bought it for $2200 (USD). Jakob (lol) I did the stage 1 chip, short throw, APR intake system, a little heavier clutch and it is my favorite daily driver. Next step will be wider rims next year so I can put the power down properly. The airbox and stage 1 tune really opens these cars up. Feels like how they should have been from the factory. I don't like loud cars, so I am hesitant to do stage 2 where you open up the exhaust flow, maybe when this exhaust rusts off. I LOVE that it's already pre-beat up. I don't mind parking it anywhere.

I went an APR intake and AWE downpipe ( one hi-flo cat, no o2 “cel” problems) & kept the stock mufflers- no drone, great intake noises, more throttle response & power. 2010 manual. Lighter wheels & sticky summer tires really help starting/stopping/turning.

    • @iamfrankstallone
      @iamfrankstallone Před 4 lety +1

@@philiporeilly9662 Tires and brakes are no brainers for me on all cars. I have summer and winter wheels respectively. If you look at the price for the APR Stage 2 w/ high flow downpipe, the gains are minimal. Almost laughable gains considering the cost for the downpipe & tune vs. Stage 1 gains. That's my issue. Do I need to upgrade the whole exhaust to get a better return on investment for APR Stage 2 w/ downpipe? ~250HP on a FWD car feels fast. I need wider tires (8.5/9.0 width all around?) to put that, or any more power down anyway. Did you see/feel significant gains in HP/Torque going from just Stage 1 to adding the downpipe?
