  • What is PayPal and how does it work?
    The simple answer is that it's a way to send and receive payments. This video provides a broad overview of the details behind this.
    For buyers, you can send payments while protecting your sensitive billing information. Credit card numbers, bank account details, and billing addresses are hidden in your PayPal wallet so that sellers only have minimal information necessary to complete your order.
    For sellers there are a number of products available to process payments online, over the phone, at tradeshows, in the field, or even at your retail shop! Conversion rates and avg. order totals have been proven to increase when you add PayPal as a payment option for your products and services.

      Do not trust PayPal as a seller! All it takes is someone saying they didn’t get there service or item and PayPal will charge you AND ad a fee without notifying you! This happend to me and I had PROOF that my service was provided. They said it didn’t matter because the buyer used a credit card. Completely honest with you brother…DO NOT SELL WITH PAYPAL!!! There are plenty of trustworthy companies like cash app where this dosent happen!

      There is good and bad to this. Having all of your volume with one processor can allow you to negotiate cheaper rates and save a lot of money on fees. It also gets you better account managers and access to better support. However, it's definitely recommended to have another processor in line just in case something does go wrong and you need to switch over quickly.

    Do you manually have to enter your card number and bank account information? Or does it automatically link itself to your account once you make a paypal?

    • @angelleye
      @angelleye  Před 4 lety

      Depending on the bank, you may be able to link it using your online banking credentials. Otherwise, it will make two small deposits into your account. Then when you see those deposits show up, you verify the amounts with PayPal to complete the verification.
      For the card, you just need to manually add the card. Make sure the billing address on the card is added as a shipping address in your PayPal account so that it will be a Confirmed address.

    Do u have to have a credit card to use PayPal or u can transfer straight from ur bank?

    • @angelleye
      @angelleye  Před 4 lety +1

      You can add it straight from the bank. However, you could run into problems without a card linked because that means you won't have a "confirmed address" on your account. This could potentially lead to sellers not having seller protection on payments from you, which could make them not want to fulfill your order. It's recommended to go ahead and get a debit/credit card linked even if you're not going to fund payments with it.

    I have been trying to setup my new account for PayPal but all in vain with response 'the card am using is not allowed for this service' yet my bank tells me other clients are using similar cards with no issues.
    What should I do???

      @angelleye  Před 6 lety +4

      Is it a debit card, a credit card, a gift card, or what kind of card exactly? When you say other clients are using "similar cards" it sounds like it's a unique type of card in some way..??
      If it's Visa/MasterCard branded there should be no issue. Are you simply trying to add the card to your PayPal wallet, or is it asking you to enter a card when you are setting up a specific feature within PayPal? It says "not allowed for this service", so for example, are you specifically trying to sign up for PayPal Pro or something like that when it asks this? Or just general add credit card?

    • @angelleye
      @angelleye  Před 6 lety +2

      It looks like Uganda is limited to sending funds only, so there are some restrictions with those accounts, but you should be able to add a credit card to use as a funding source for sending payments. One thing you can try to clearing your browser cache / cookies. Sometimes PayPal's site can get messed up that way, so clearing can resolve issues like this sometimes. If it keeps happening after you'll need to contact PayPal directly and see if they can help you figure out what's going on.

    Im a new seller on eBay. In fact, I just listed my 1st item today. It all looks good except for the payment method. It says "seller only accepts payment by Paypal." Obviously I did something wrong when setting up my item page. I never wanted to limit potential buyers with valid major credit cards to only be able to buy from me using PayPal. Can I revise the payment method part or is it too late? I'll cancel the sale and start over if not. Thank you.

    • @angelleye
      @angelleye  Před 6 lety

      I don't do a lot of selling myself, so it's bee a while since I've looked at the eBay preferences / settings. Somewhere in there, though, should be a section where you can adjust your payment settings for eBay payments.
      It's possible they have that at the item level, too, in which case you should be able to adjust it by revising your listing.
      If all else fails, yeah, you could just cancel the listing and start it again making sure to set payment methods the way you want, but I don't think you should have to cancel in order to get that done. It should be available while revising.

      There are many scammers on platforms like that. Be very careful. If you are going to buy something from somebody, NEVER use Friends and Family, and always ask them to send you a PayPal invoice with the specific item(s) listed on the invoice. Then use a credit card that is linked to your PayPal account as the funding source for the payment. This will give you multiple layers of buyer protection.

    so I don't need to add a credit card or bank account and PayPal will just store my earnings by itself? I was under the impression that you NEEDED to add a 3rd party form of banking (like the credit/debit cards or a bank account) if that's the case I've just been sitting on a empty PayPal account and receiving money though cash only and making it harder on my customers at times.

    • @angelleye
      @angelleye  Před 5 lety +3

      That is correct. When you receive a PayPal payment, that cash will sit directly inside your PayPal account until you spend it or transfer it to a bank or card of some sort.
      It's typically not recommended that you keep a very high balance in the PayPal account, though. Just in case any account holds come up for any reason, you don't want a bunch of cash in there getting locked up.

      If you send a payment to an email address that does not exist on PayPal, they will get an email from PayPal telling them they have money waiting, and they need to create an account to accept it. When they create the account, the money will drop in there for them.
      If they don't create the account to claim the money, then after 30 days it would be sent back to you.

      @angelleye  Před 6 lety

      Sorry to hear that one incident made you decide this after 15+ years of successful business. Like any huge corporation, customer services can be a bit of a hit and miss scenario. Depending on who you get on the phone or the other end of a support ticket you might not get the sort of help you might expect.
      That's no fun when it happens, but if you submit a new ticket or call again to get somebody else that can help. One key word, too, is "escalate". If you're not getting anywhere with the person you're talking with you can kindly request to escalate the call. This will typically get you on the phone with somebody with more experience that can answer questions more knowledgeably.
      Also, I'm curious who you decided to take payments with now..?? I'm also curious about the scenario you encountered that turned into this bad experience..?? I would highly recommend that you study what happened from all angles and ask yourself if you truly feel you would have had any different experience with another payment processor. I've worked with numerous payment processors, and they all have similar policies when it comes to funding holds, chargeback handling, etc.

      www.consumeraffairs.com/online/paypal_02.html

    • @angelleye
      @angelleye  Před 6 lety +1

      First, I do not work for PayPal. I am a software developer that specializes in payment processing, and after working with many different payment processors I have grown partial to PayPal because they are best when comparing them all to each other based on pricing, brand recognition, ease of use and integration, seller and buyer protection, etc. If there was a better payment provider out there I would be flaunting them instead of PayPal.
      They do not "keep your money for no reason." If your funds are being held it's because red flags were raised that show your account or particular transaction(s) are high risk. To protect themselves and their users they put holds on funds when this happens. They ALL do this sort of thing. The only difference is that PayPal has nearly 250 million accounts they're working with, so even when a very small percentage of people have a bad experience you're going to see more reports of it than other processors simply because of the numbers.
      Check or money order...cash in person..?? You're only hurting yourself by doing that. You will absolutely lose sales if you do not provide PayPal, credit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, etc. as payment options on your website or applications.
      Current numbers are showing 237 million active accounts. This page you linked has a grand total of 1938 reviews, including all of the 2/3/4/5 star reviews, so even a smaller number of 1 star reviews. That is such a small sample size it's essentially obsolete. Also, like usual, the vast majority of these reviews show that the person was clearly ignorant about standard procedures for accepting payments online no matter who you're processing them through. A little bit of general education on standards would eliminate most of these problems people are having.
      If you would share some of your details I'm sure I could provide some feedback that would help you avoid similar problems in the future.

    • @NoName-dn8nv
      @NoName-dn8nv Před 6 lety

      Angell EYE sample size too small bullshit. Those angry customers aren't obsolete. How many million examples would one need.

Five days later I win the item and with shipping its $1150. I pay immediately and try to move the 350 balance back to my account. But my account has now been flagged, my balance held for 21 days. Why? No other company withholds a person's own money. I must have called 20 times on that one instance over the 21 day hold. I was given different answers at different times ranging from you'll just have to wait to it will be in your account within 24 hours. No accountability with them. Also if you don't work for them don't spew their policies I'm sure their legal dept wouldn't like that

Well, if you do that you'll be paying a lot more in fees than you will with PayPal, UNLESS you happen to be doing a lot of physical card transactions through a point of sale terminal. If that is your situation, then yes, an Interchange Plus type of account would be better. In that case, though, I would recommend Braintree as it will be much better than a local bank in most cases.
      To say PayPal is bleeding money shows your ignorance. You're on here under "No Name", using lovely language, and you obviously don't know what you are talking about. PayPal is bleeding money? Their financial statements show billions of dollars of free cash flow which they've been using to acquire other companies for billions of dollars and still have billions left. I'd love to be bleeding money that way.
      The reason there are so many bad comments in places you mention is a two part thing. First, as I already said, PayPal has nearly 250 million active accounts. Even a very small percentage of complaints would look like a lot if you go digging for it. Also, it's very unfortunate that people like yourself go around talking all this trash without any true knowledge of what they're talking about, further planting false information in people's minds when they had a bad experience. It's a shame, really. Again, if you go with a local bank gateway and the same situation happens you'll end up in the same exact boat if you don't change your procedures to avoid whatever happened, which you won't tell us about....which is telling.
      I'm not blindly ignoring any negative. I am here to help people avoid the negative. As I mentioned before, I am only partial to PayPal because in my experience of using over 50 different merchant providers to process hundreds of millions of dollars for clients, they are the best. If another company comes along and can give me a better product and service than PayPal I would gladly utilize their tools and help people to see those advantages as well.

      No, you can make purchases with cash in your PayPal balance or in your bank account if you don't want to use a credit card.

    So what you are saying once you have a paypal acc, if you are trying to pay for something else you can pay for it with pay pal that you have and they will take it ?

    • @angelleye
      @angelleye  Před 3 lety

      As a buyer, once you have established your PayPal account and added your funding methods to it (ie. bank account, credit card, etc.) then yes, you can pay anybody that accepts PayPal by logging in to your PayPal account and choosing which funding method you want to use for that particular transaction. The seller never sees your actual billing info, so it's protected. All they will get is a shipping address (if necessary for the order.)

    If a merchant is UNVERIFIED, and PayPal has already released the money out of my account, sent confirmation email, is my order safe? Sender did not send shipping info yet.

    what if PayPal gets hacked

    • @angelleye
      @angelleye  Před 5 lety +2

      The odds of this happening are very low, and they have withstood the test of time. They have many people trying to hack them every day, of course, and they've been unsuccessful.
      The only successful "hacks", which is pretty much true for any system these days, comes primarily through social engineering. This is where people will reach out to your personally one way or another, and trick you into giving up the information they need to get into your account specifically.
      In the unlikely case that PayPal's system was directly compromised, I would treat it like I would losing my physical wallet. Any credit/debit cards that I have added to my account would need to be canceled and replaced immediately. My PayPal login/password would need to be changed immediately.
      That said, if you follow the procedures I lay out in my other video about how to protect your bank account, you won't have anything in your PayPal wallet that is vulnerable anyway. czcams.com/video/BfzpvvmWlSw/video.html
      Still, the same procedures could be taken to clean up any mess left behind from such a hack.
      So, the answer is that you need to do some planning ahead, which you're already doing, so that's great! Take a look at the other video I linked above, and feel free to comment again if you have any more questions or concerns.

    so if i have my debit card linked to my paypal, may use that without sending funds to my paypal for purchases? or do i have to send funds?

    • @angelleye
      @angelleye  Před 5 lety

      Yes, if you have a debit card linked to PayPal you can use that as the funding source for a purchase, and it will automatically do the transfer from the card (bank) to PayPal so that the purchase can be covered. You do not need to move money before making the purchase. In fact, that would make it take longer.
