I hate myself for saying this but after having a keyboard with a volume knob I can never go back to a keyboard without one. It's a tragic tale

Me but with any board that has dedicated media keys (I've never been a fan of media keys on function layers)
Funny, personally I've always found the media knobs and whatnot to be basically useless (and kinda ugly tbf). I'd always rather have 1-2 more keys or less keyboard over a knob.
Of course, this is all preference.

@@camdenfurry5187 Typically with the volume control on the headset, though I don't typically find that have to change it "while" gaming if at all.

congrats on 700k Hipyo! Your videos have really inspired me to et into mechanical keyboards and even mod and make my own, keep it going my favorite hippo.
I like seeing Kiiboom getting exposure. I have the Phantom 81 and the Phantom 68 and they're both excellent in the sub-$200 category. I forget what the switch is called but the one trying to be an Aquaking is actually incredibly good once you hand lube them, and the boards themselves have great feel and sound with little to no extra work. I'll have to get the Moonshadow to try out, your build has sold me on it.
Their boards are overpriced for todays market especially when you have boards like MKC 75 going for sub 120 boards like the cycle 7 going for 150 ish.
Your comment assumes the end user already has switches and keycaps available, and ignores the cost@@jlee9360

I like the sound of Morandis (and the light diffusion!), but I find them wobbly and unstable. So, I frankenswitch a box-stem into them, and suddenly, they're a tiny bit less thocky, but a whole hell of a lot more stable.
If I was motivated to try loads of keyboards and spend relatively a lot of money on one and stuff my top goal would be ergonomics, but seeing the mechanical keyboard boom over the past decade (mostly from the sidelines, admittedly) it seems like 99% of the boom has been in traditional unergonomic rectangle form factors
The dactyl ergodox are still fairly popular.
but the issue is that ergo keyboards are usually more involved as you can't use a regular pcb, so it's either diy or expensive.

Did you do anything to the stabs while modding this thing? If so, how were they completely stock?
Yeah so this is the first keyboard I've bought where I really did nothing in terms of mod and the stock sound was just perfect. Removed the bottom foam, removed the tiny gasket pad on the spacebar, and then re-screwed the backspace and spacebar stabs because they were getting stuck and I could notice the backspace was a tiny bit tilted and was sure damn sure it wasn't an overlube job causing the stickiness, it just needed slight readjustment onto the pcb. All the stabs were stock lubed to perfection, zero tick, and no stick after that tiny bit of rework. Also got via working although they really don't give you much explanation on how to do so, so it took some playing around with. Overall I absolutely love this board, it really does need no work to sound great and the no foam build is just perfection.
Just bought one to build for my GF. Now I got to figure out a good keycap set that will look good with the green keyboard!

how do you feel about the ws morandi vs the oil kings?
there's no need to warn about fire risk in keyboards. Worst case, the battery is properly insulated and there are short circuit protection ICs between the battery and board. As for the rest of the keyboard, it's 5 volts and hence even shorting everything would still not be a fire hazard, and will only likely brick the board
I enjoyed the after. Outside scary. Never go again.

Adding a note, that as of January 2024 as shipped the keyboard doesn't seem to work with via still. Tried loading the .json from keyboom's website to via but it doesn't seem to line up with the keyboard itself. (as in changes in the via software don't seem to show up in the keyboard)

personally, i'm using a hollow full sized, without any foam or tape, mx cherry blue switches keyboard. the stabilizers aren't lubed, and the lights are extremely dim. can't get better.
