    Xabi Alonso is such an elegant midfielder. Adore this guy and held nothing against him when he left (unlike Torres when he went to Chelsea but in hindsight we were a mess at that time and not equipped to win titles). As much as I liked Rafa and the great things he achieved, selling Alonso was the camel's nose under the tent in terms of our decline.

    • @accountuser5588

      I agree. When Alonso left in 2009, Liverpool got slightly worse each season (With the exception of 2013/14), up until 2015 when Klopp took charge

      I blame Hicks and Gillet for Alonso and Mascherano leaving. Gareth Barry was hot topic in a 3 man midfield in 2009 and he could play left back. Liverpool had to sell before they could buy.

    • @joeexotic5831
      @joeexotic5831 Před 2 lety +5

      Blame the owners at the time, Not Rafa, he told xabi he had no choice, the owners wouldn't give any money for new players, they told rafa he could sell whoever he wanted, to buy players, but there was NO money to buy. He put several players on the transfer list, just to see what offers came in, he didnt want too, but his hand was forced, xabi didnt like this, as such when the offer came for him, he left. Neither he or Rafa wanted that. I Rafa had our current owners to work with he would have done even better, but considering what he did have to work with he performed miracles. Ynwa

      @@paulmcconkey1011 Them 3 in their prime would work perfectly with our team now. They have a better balance of creativity and defensive prowess. Right now Fab is probably the closest to breaking that 3, he could replace Mascherano but Gerrard and Alonso would have slotted straight into our system. I love our team right now but midfield is slightly weaker than our defence and attack

    • @sleepindragon179

      It's common knowledge Liverpool's midfield is their current weak spot. The defence and attack are top notch. The midfield is lacking. Put Xabi in with Flacco, Thiago, and Hendo. Sorted.
