    Well put together video! Your style is clean and informative.
    I have to agree, when I tell my students what concept art is, the answer has always been disappointing as it isn't always clear. I find myself saying "it depends on what you are doing". In the end, to be a good concept artist / designer, you need to be able to be a damn good draftsman, create ideas from imagination and communicate clearly. Let me know if you feel inclined to agree. Thanks for the video Antonio!

    We have the same issues with the product design terms. A lot of digital only companies advertise for product designers which is confusing for traditional Industrial/Product designers.
    Very good video nice points. I always had issues with the concept artist term as well since I considered myself more of a concept designer since I never cared about nicely illustrating something (like an artist might want to) once I got the main idea over in a way that made the concept perfectly understood by everyone.
    And thanks for including me in your video cheers ;)

    A concept art is something, which later becomes a real-life prop, a 3d model. Whereas an illustration is not that demanding in terms of form representation, clarity and construction. It can be flat, unrealistic, but emotional. Whereas a concept art should clearly convey how to build it

    One thing you're insanely true is most company first hire 'concept artist' for making stylized concept art, but then their project changes, a lot of realistic game/movie project is priority then a experienced stylized artist have to do a job as industrial designer to make functional things for high quality assets... This job is kind of not same job at different time, and almost mess up as artist is not experienced with the highly functional quality. In a short word, this is not a job anyone can learn in couple years, it can be a lifetime and suffer a lot as requirements go higher...

    Really excellent and informative video! Thanks so much for sharing this insight! I’ve always suspected that aspect of concept art- ie what it really means and entails- and the various terms I’ve seen people use always was so confusing. Especially when I start to see people specialize themselves with specific terminology like “Character concept artist” or “Prop Designer” etc. just like in animation, I’d imagine that’s something that exists in concept art, would they be correct? As you outlined in the video that you can “” be a general concept artist or specialize yourself- whether specific field or even genre. Since would it get confusing if you advertised yourself as a “Jack of all trades” concept artist? I’ve often heard that can very confusing, and it’s a misconception to think you need to be that Jack of all trades artist (ie you do a mix of a background designer, character designer, storyboards, props). Since you’re not really improving/ getting good at that one thing. Thanks again for the great video!

  • @Rice8003
    @Rice8003 Před rokem +4

    This is actually ridiculous. All you did was explain the definition of concept art. But you left out the key detail that concept art is not Marketing art, that's where illustrators come in. The polished images you just showed for Centure is much closer to post production art than it is to preproduction. Concept artist is a general term, but context designer??
    You must know that context designer is such an alien term to artist as the term concept art is to non-artist, and this new name you cooked up does not solve any problem. And the fact that this title has absolutely nothing to do with the video. why not say "don't call it concept art". You're clearly preying on the student artist struggling to break into the industry, why not just make a video just explaining what concept art is instead of this uninspiring attempt to sound innovative. Thanks and have a nice day
