Tiber Septim - The Elder Scrolls Lore

- When it comes to heroes of great renown in the history of Tamriel, none compare to Tiber Septim. The glorious Atmoran Dragonborn General led Cyrodiil to great and unprecedented prosperity. He single-handedly reformed The Empire and subsequently brought the rest of the continent under its control. How did Talos accomplish these feats, and did he really become a god after his death? These questions are (mostly) answered here. Enjoy!

The most impressive person in this lore video is the assassin who single-handedly marched into Cyrodiil, killed the emperor, injured Tiber Septim, and on top of all that, set the palace ablaze and left in one piece. The gods should've ascended him instead lol.
UAHDIASHAUSDI lmao
...but they did
He killed the Emperor himself and slit his own throat to make it look like an attack.

If they ever made a TV series set in the Elder Scrolls, Talos' story would not be a bad pick.
That would be a great series,if done well!
Not a series, but a movie. I can see them injecting romances and drama in it as a series and that disgusts me
I would love the idea of a anthology series based on the elder scrolls. A movie wouldn't be able to tell even a little bit of TES lore
@@telomettotittettori8218 Can't see how they'd make a movie OR a tv series without romance and drama. What matters is execution and I don't think a movie can satisfy the lore sufficiently
@@Nikolaj11yh you're perfectly right, it would be SO difficult to satisfy the lore in one film of 2.30 hours. That's why i hope we will never see one, because they will mostl likely break the lore and trying to keep the attention of dudebros up with sex scenes.
I love how Martin Septim's portrait is a picture of a young Sean Bean.
By Ysmir! Is that Talos himself?
By Ysmir! Is that Ysmir?
Loved the video, excellent ending. I was thinking the entire time that I felt like I was listening to Talosian propaganda with no mention of Hjalti or Wulfharth or Zurin or the Mantella etc.
Can't wait for the inevitable part 2!
That is precisely what I was going for. I'm very glad you enjoyed it.
I know right until the end I was like this guy must be biased and Imperial.
cringe pfp
Can't wait to here about how Talos diddled a dark elf queen
And then forced her to get an abortion.
@@Sehtlimbo Yikes.
Imagine a TES spinoff featuring voiced Talos during the height of his career, ending it with his ascension to the Nine.
You mean a TES spinoff where you will be able to play as Tiber Septim. Well that will be awesome.
Not many people can do what Martin did. Become a Dragon.
Not many people can do what Tiber did. Become a God.

Man I love this lore series I just binged watched it can’t wait for another vid
Why is his divinity even in question? You get blessings from his statues and amulets ffs! False idols can’t do that!
It's much much much more complicated than that.
Red&Blue Productions For Bethesda It really isn’t. Regardless, it was just proven in this video
The power from shrines are not from the gods but by magical enchantments
@@YOGI-kb9tg Sheogorath from Skyrim during the quest "The Mind of Madness", has confirmed that Tiber Septim did in fact ascended as Dragon God as he converse with Pelagius III. A lot of people miss this certain dialogue whenever they prove if Tiber did ascend.

These videos are always amazing that it gives me chills
For the next episode I think an explanation of the actual elder scrolls would be awesome. Great video ofc.
The fact I know more about the ESO lore then i do real history is a crazy.
You're an expert at explaining this stuff clearly! Love your channel and hard work!
Love this, can't wait for the next part
this is what im waiting for, niceee !!
I’m so glad you’re making more lore videos
Really apreciate your work, man. Thanks for the video
I am LOVING these vids! Literally just binged all the episodes of this series, can't wait for more!
I enjoy these lore-videos so much!
Relaxing, great to listen to, well researched and overall just good
Once again this was great!
Can't wait for the next one.
Oh my god i missed all of your episodes within the last couple of months. Time to binge watch
the end got me. I was expecting you to have simply fallen for all the distinctly modern Nord orthodoxy (why else completely ignore the badass eldritch machine god mecha), but knowing it was a bit shines a light on the tone set for the whole video. Great job, I had a chuckle.
Look man I just discovered your channel and have since bingewatched all of your Elder Scrolls lore episodes, and as a frequent reader of the UESP wiki and all of the in game books I can get my hands on, I absolutely love your videos man, you have earned my subscribe, my bell and my first born child if you want him. Please do not stop making videos, for any reason, and if you want to make longer videos I would literally sit through an hour or more of you explain the colorful lore of these games. I do understand that keeping your videos to 10-20 minutes is probably more about production time than viewer attention span, but still, I would love more videos and I will be here for any and all videos in your future, thank you for this amazing channel!
Love your videos, put together very nicely. Keep it up, man!!!
The effort you put in this is really impressive, this is a great video
Ma man just completely skipped the brutal war between Talos and Hammerfell
I need more! Keep them coming!
These videos are really helpful for me. I've never liked reeading non-fiction and even in a fictional world like Skyrim i've never liked reading their fantasy history books as they read just as boring as modern history books. However the history of the elder scrolls is very interesting and I really enjoy hearing you explain it.
maaaaaan. i hope you get to a point where you can make more of these videos. I enjoy your presentation and format alot. that docu style was what origionally got me into shoddycast back in 2014 and then they fell off and got bought out. im finna click that patreon link.
Really engaging and fantastic video. Thanks!
I wish I was there for the live chat premiere! Huge fan of all your content.
Propaga- AHEM... Educational content on Emperor Tiber Septim has been approved.
The suspense is killing me!
mate I know your channel since the down era video and I love it! but after that I stopped looking for elder scrolls content. Yesterday I revisited your channel and i was pleasantly surprised with your content. Good information and good quality video! You really are passionate about the lore!
please dont stop with the lore videos. I ve watcher every lore video of yours (ps. sorry for my shitty english)
I can feel how much work and thought goes into these series :)
well done man put together nicely bravo
Love The videos Man congratulation!!
GOOD vid man keep up the good work
Imagine this alright, Talos managed to defeat three gods in Morrowind, so what if he invaded akivar
I wouldn’t say Talos managed to beat the Alsmivi. Morrowind was ’conqured’ by treaty, not by an invasion of Morrowind.
This was a really good re-cap of The Interregnum and the Tiber Wars!
This video is grand. I'm im awe. Double Negative deserves way more due then many other elder scroll channels.
A quality content which i wanted
Fantastic! Would love to see a video about the canon game events if you’re up for it

Thanks for the video. I wanna know more about this stuff. TES is the serious deal. My favourite game series :)
Great lore series, first that I fully understand and enjoy. Are there more videos planned?
I love the terminology you use, which puts down the dirty Elves but exalts the noble Men. ^^
He did that on purpose go watch his other Talos video and it’s done in a different light.
Cool video, but you didn't mention the Numidium that was a pretty big reason he was able to conquer Summerset.
You're right, and that was intentional. This video was written from the perspective of The Empire, which likes to ignore Tiber's use of a doomsday weapon in his campaign. You should check out the follow-up, "Real" Tiber Septim episode for more details on that.
Thank you so much for watching!
@@DoubleNegative Saw the second video, it's awesome, goes into a lot of detail, and love that you respect perspective which is important for the Elder Scrolls. Subscribed!
Talos is just 3 Shezarrine in a trench coat
What about in the Knights of The Nine expansion? In the critical part of the story, his blessing is a good evidence that he ascended to divinity.
There is also Sheogorath from Skyrim during the quest "The Mind of Madness", confirmed that Tiber Septim did in fact ascended as Dragon God as he converses with Pelagius III. A lot of people miss this certain dialogue whenever they prove if Tiber did ascend.
And in the main story of oblivion, you needed an artifact that belongs to the aedra or 9 divines, and using Talos' breastplate works.
It's not really a qustion of whether he did so much as whether he's worthy of worship, and just how powerful he is. In some respects he's more like a Daedra, in others it's almost as if he mantled Lorkhan (I'm convinced that's true, certainly enough betrayl for it.)
I think the largest evidence that Talos was indeed divine and deserved to be worshiped comes from The Knights of the Nine Storyline. Even Pelinal Whitestrake couldn't banish Umaril's soul from the mortal plane, but he said that now in this time(the time of The Crusaders), the knights had something they never did, the risen ninth divine Talos. After defeating Umaril's physical aspect only with Talos' blessing are you able to travel the the realm which Umaril's soul takes sanctuary and banish it from Mundus. So clearly Talos' has the ethereal power to transcend the planes of existence and and the aspect of omnipotent righteousness that helps define the other of the 8 divines.
Hopefully there'll be a movie, show or game about Talos. His story is just so great and would be a wasted opportunity to show
You should do a he next one on The White-Gold Concordat.
There may have been a bunch of other casualties, but you just love to see those altmer get subjugated
For some reason I always hear the name of the king allied with Talos as Kool-Aid.
I love this series 😍
merci pour ça monsieur
thanks my friend, i hope you always continue your research hehehe, love from indonesia
Probably my favorite story in the game next to the guar jumped over the mundus
Thanks for the english subtitles
By Ysmir's beard! This is a great video!
Fantastic video, great explanations and very thorough investigation.
I might prefer you over fudge muppet and camel.
Got to love how the last river septim look like a young Sean Bean.
Honestly i've always wanted to know the lore of TES but i've not played any of the games other than Skyrim and even in skyrim i'm too lazy too read the books so thanks a lot because not only do you summarize but also make it a bit graphic which is quite awesome!
Hey, just finished watching your lore playlist. Your videos are great! However, I think there are more content in Dawn and Merethic Eras' lore that you haven't covered yet.
This Is gold content
Tiber septim was given ancient powerful dwenmer technology which he used to subdue a lot of these continents. Also had a dragon rain hellfire on hammerfell
Your videos need more views. You put too much effort in and you need way more attention
Greybeards: "Talos will rule Tamriel"

That picture of Martin Septim is just beautiful

I need to know where you got the covers for the music from the games. They sounds dope as hell.
They're from the Beyond Skyrim: Bruma soundtrack! The composer Daniel Ran was gracious enough to allow me to use it. There's a link to his Soundcloud in the description. It's also on Spotify. Enjoy!

SEVERELY UNDERRATED AND UNAPPRECIATED CHANNEL
Id love to see an aspect of the divine Talos come down from Atherius and help the protag defeat the 3rd Dominion
Do you ever think that maybe the reason the High Elves of Alinor are doing what they are doing might have something to do with Tiber Septim using Numidium on them? Idk maybe I’m crazy.
This men is conquer lands like Pelinal cutting down Elves
Cool.
Any plan to go over the Argonians in depth?
At some point, yes. It's on my list.
Talos = becomes king as a dragon born
My dragon born = kill bandits :(
Honestly Elder Scrolls lore got me interested in the stories of real ancient civilizations too :)
There was something to him in Skyrim, firstly the graybeards tell the Dovakiin that he is Talos/Tiber Septim reborn, calling him Yisgrimr. Secondly, when the PC ended up in Soverngaurd, Talos is no place to be found and the player is able to sit in his seat of power within Soverngaurd. The PC is not supposed to be able to do that, none but Tiber can. Something else to think about...
Old comment but they call the dragonborn ysmir which was an ancient nord hero who is believed to be a shezzerine of shor it has nothing to do with talos
Also talos doesn't have a seat in shors realm as it was shors seat not talos because talos is a different god
@@ciaranmck4469 yeah he mixed some stuff up.
@@Super50ldier talos wasn't an imperial he was either a nord or breton
either way he wouldn't be found in souvenguard because he's a god. There's also something to say that he mantled the position of shor but that goes into speculation rather than something we can prove
@@Super50ldier there's no evidence to say he's an imperial and a lot more to say he's either a nord, breton or atmoran
At the end of the day there's no proof to definitely say he's X race but we can summerize he wasn't an imperial and probably wasn't atmoran meaning he was either a nord or a breton
so at the end of the day if comes down to the unreliable narrator do you believe the articurian heresy or the pocket guides and the general consensus of the people of tamriel
@@Super50ldier like what? sorry but the empire it's self says he's not an imperial and ysmir/underking says he's a breton
I doubt there's anything more credible then those 2 sources
One correction: Talos wasn't from Atmora, he was born in one location of High Rock (island of Alcaire I think). It was confirmed in game.
This video handles that at then end when they show The Acturian Heresy, The Real Barenziah and Daggerfall butting in to let him know that everything he just said is Tiber's own propaganda.
This video is from the perspective of the Empire not The Arcturian Heresy
Herecy.
yes lore's pleaseee
do lore on specific races
the problem with the elder scrolls franchise is that the story is streeeeeeeeeeeeeeeched because of the massive amount of side quests but if you take your time and try to piece the story together it is truly beatifull.
I think Talos like Whitestike was basically Shor. Same with Wolf. So Tiber didn't ascend but instead represents Shazaar
One other evidence to prove Talos became a divine is when he isn't anywhere to be found in Sovangarde at the end of Skyrim's main story line
Not necessarily evidence, since Talos' race isn't set in stone.
Him not being in Sovngarde could also mean he just wasn't a Nord.
@@dutchpatriot17 Any race could hypothetically go to Sovengarde if that’s what they believe in. The closest example of an Elf that might have went to Sovengarde was the elf Henantier the Outsider who was one of the Harbingers of the Companions a Nord establishment. But I can’t prove he worshipped Nord Gods. So who knows.
@@Sehtlimbo There isn't proof of any human race barring Nords and Atmorans being to go to Sovngarde.
@@dutchpatriot17 yeah true. But in Skyrim even an elf character is invited back to Sovengarde when he/she dies. But that’s the only example so who knows maybe Sovengarde is kinda racist lol.
@@Super50ldier you made that up
You forgot the part where he executed both aspects of the Underking to form the Mantella to power the Numidium due to the absence on the Heart of Lorkhan; He used the Numidium- gifted by the Tribunal- to conquer much of the world. It could be said that, considering Morrowind was only conquered after Skyrim, High Rock, and Hammerfell, that the Numidium played a key role in quashing the Altmer, who would have been extremely formidable at the time.
Not so much the Altmer, rather, the Altmeri navy.
Yes, please.
my opinion : martin septim deserves a spot as a divine like how talos ascended
also this is quite an informative video
TT034 In the Beyond Skyrim: Bruma, mod there is a cult dedicated to the worship of Martin Septim, it’s used as a way to circumvent the outlawing of Talos worship in the white gold concordat. It’s just fan fiction but it’s a cool idea.
