Boston Cream Pie Recipe (50 State Dessert Series)

  • Hey friends, I made this Boston Cream Pie (cake) recipe as part of my 50 states series. This happens to be the popular state dessert for Massachusetts. This recipe turned out so great. It was delicious and moist. I hope you try this recipe! You will not be disappointed!!
    Boston Cream Pie (Cake)
    Cake:
    1 yellow box mix cake
    ½ cup sugar
    ½ cup flour
    1 cup sour cream
    ½ cup milk
    ½ cup oil (veg or canola)
    3 eggs
    2 teaspoons vanilla extract
    Combine the first three ingredients in a bowl. Then add the remaining five ingredients. Mix with electric mixer for two minutes. Pour into two 8 inch cake pans and cook at 350° for 30 minutes. Let cool completely on wire racks.
    Filling:
    1 small box instant vanilla pudding
    2 cups heavy cream
    Combine these two ingredients and mix with electric mixer until stiff or like mousse. This will only take one to two minutes, store in refrigerator until ready to assemble cake.
    Ganache topping
    1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
    3/4 cup heavy cream
    Heat in microwave for 30 seconds, stir. Heat another 30 seconds and stir. If needed heat at 10 more second intervals until melted and smooth. Cool in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
    Once everything is cool, assemble the cake by layering one layer of cake all of the filling spread out evenly another layer of cake and pour the ganache on top. The ganache will drip over the sides. (If it is too drippy, put it back in the refrigerator for another 10 to 15 minutes)
    Store in the refrigerator.
