- Lithium is a very important element today, especially for battery production. Few countries have access to this resource, in this video we will see the quantities per country represented on a real scale.
Note:
Resource is that amount of a geologic commodity that exists in both discovered and undiscovered deposits-by definition, then, a “best guess.”
Reserves are that subgroup of a resource that have been discovered, have a known size, and can be extracted at a profit.

Venice is the new city that will have an appearance in meta ball studios.
This seems... awfully specific. Have you thought of doing another ocean-depth-related video, perhaps about sea creatures?
Should have done the estimate in the worlds sea water.
I live in Chile, politicians are getting rich AF controlling the exploitation and it's all behind closed doors.
They are trying to do the same in Argentina and Bolivia.
The poorer the country, the richer the politicians
Read about the resource curse
It does not seem like much when you realize every car, truck, train, phone, toothbrush, watch etc. currently or eventually needs this to reduce carbon dependency 😳
Reduce carbon dependency 🤣 it’ll never happen. This entire thing is a cash grab from the people dumb enough to fall for the climate scare
What are they going to use when the lithium runs out?
Switch to a different resource probably. Molten salt batteries are a thing for example but they're not as good as lithium batteries but who knows with decades more R&D we might see other technologies that surpass lithium or are on par with it for energy density.@@RaccCity55
Chocolate
Or so sayeth the mainstream media.
How can he drop such big lithium boxes to that city😮😮
Aliens
@@MetaBallStudios🤣🤣🤣
I'm more concerned about the proximity to water.
@@eliljehomeet the demoman
I saw a helicopter hovering around 😁
There was a recent lithium deposit discovered in Norway. In July 2023, the Norwegian mining company Northern Minerals announced that it had discovered a large lithium deposit in the Finnmark region of Norway. The deposit is estimated to contain 220 million tonnes of lithium carbonate
So 318 Millon total now?
@@DCcopter Not even close. Lithium carbonate is an ore, meaning the useful stuff is mixed with non-useful stuff. The amount of lithium metal you get from lithium carbonate is about 20%, but that varies depending on the conditions of the deposit.
There's multiple big finds and it's only going to rise the longer people search.
I love these videos but this is already out of date
I'm pretty sure the people of Italy wouldn't be so happy with the numerous blocks of lithium floating around their city 😂
That's really ironic that this element was one of the first in the Universe, but is so weirdly rare today!
Well, it's not really so "weirdly"... it's just that nucleosynthesis leaps past Li (and BE, B) from He to C... so some of the Li we have is a leftover of the big bang, where it was produced in trace amounts compared hydrogen. The rest is produced during classic novae, where it is also produces in small amounts compared to He, C, N, O, Ne, Mg, and cosmic ray spallation. It is also easy to break apart and fuse into heavier elements in the heat of stars.
That said, it's also not too rare... it's in the top 20 most common elements in the crust... but much of that Li is not easily extracted.
Yep, I know that =)
@@GwelliantLooks like you don't
@@buckykattnj Being a very lightweight alkali metal (same group as sodium and the like), it's no surprise that lithium is so difficult to extract, since if you isolate it, it wants to react to most things it comes into contact with.
It's also not that big a surprise that it's in the top 20, given that the processes that form new elements favor lighter elements over heavier ones, especially once you reach atomic numbers 26 and 28 (iron and nickel), since fusing elements beyond that absorbs energy in the fusion process rather than releasing it, and so heavier elements require exotic processes beyond ordinary stellar nucleosynthesis.
It os not rare. What occurs there was no economic reasons to mine it, what is change.
Hola
@@robertareyes6205 ¿? Me estás ligando?
Alvaro's quality of production has gone so high in the last few videos! Hard work shows and I love this video.
YAY for the airplane with the Subscribe banner at 1:16! I've missed seeing it. It's quietly my favorite part of a MetaBall video!
It's super detailed, the graphic is so beautiful! I love it! 😀
Nice to see Australia ranking high in one of these things, even if only in regard to something that can be dug up.
As always, I learn something new from your videos! Excellent video as always!👍👍
In regard to production. Lithium is currently produced from hard rock or brine mines.
Australia is the world's biggest supplier, with production from hard rock mines. Argentina, Chile and China mainly produce it from salt lakes.
If you're looking for new comparison ideas I think a good one would be speed comparisons of racing leagues, going from sprints, cycling into F1, you could even add fictional leagues like F-Zero and WipEout if you want to go into the big numbers.
And the dark matter ship of kirby univers
Could you do a universe size comparison? Would be really cool!
That would have been cool.
What? What would our universe be compared to? If there are multiple universes none are visible or measurable other than our own.
@@Dan-qx5miHe literally already has a video about that.
The time one is stupefying. You cant unsee it.
@@Dan-qx5miNo, like the biggest things in our Universe.
Do a follow up video on how much lithium is used in certain batteries. Car, phone, watch, weed eaters, cordless drill, Semi truck batteries, computers etc.
How can this be right when the UK isn't listed yet a quick google search shows a planned mine has resources of over 160M tonnes of ore and plan to extract 20,000t per year?
Excellent job.
San Marco's square and the surroundings are beautiful!
I just checked and I was already subscribed 😅
It would be travesty if I wasn't, such a good channel
Would've loved to see a person's POV on that one.
Thanks for information
Excellent video!!!⚡ Greetings from Peru🙌🏻
Y aca en Argentina pobres. Que casualidad...
Could you do Nickle resource comparison?
I wonder how much lithium is in the world's oceans. There's been discussions that you could extract it from seawater if the demand gets high enough.
What do you use for your cities? I’m making a game and want realistic cities. Is it cesium? And is that also what you use in your first person view newest video?
0:39. "You ok, Patrick?"
"Finland!"
You see this number and its just scary how little this actually is
100 million tonnes sounds big until you remember that we have 8 billion humans. We don't even have enough lithium to give a bucket full to each person.
There’s enough lithium there to last over a century, and that’s not even considering new deposits that will be found
Yayyyy new video!
Venice looks great and detailed. So there are tons of "Best Guesses" located around the world.
Fun Fact:
I saw this in a meme once
Venice, Italy apparently looks like Patrick needing water
We all know that Nirvana has the largest lithium stockpile.
The only thing that gets me through the day is Lithium
Buenisimos tus videos.
1:17 Noooooo! My boat has been crushed! I'm going to sue you MetaBallStudios! 😁🤪
No! Don't drop lithium in the water!!
Holy shit, thanks for the perspective. Worried argentinian here.
It’s a new metaball studios CZcams video whooooooooooo
Hello my dear friend I had a question, do you work with Blender software? I had a question about the output in blender? Thank you for your guidance
Quality as USUAL!🇬🇧👍👏
Hope we see the monster size comparison video next.
Ya voy comprendiendo muchas cosas!.
Yesssss!!!!! New video 🎉🎉🎉🎉😊😊😊
The irony that Electronics in Argentina are so expensive 🙃
Great music in this one 🎶
I just watched a video on the Donkey Kong song “Aquatic Ambiance” and I swear I’m getting similar vibes with this song.
0:38 Ai, meilläkin on sitten jonkun verran lithiumia täälläkin! 😄
0:47 WTF BOOM
Lithium will be obsolete in batery aplication very fast, metalic sodium and other metal alloys and also bio anodes and cathodes is in scientific researches, cheapest, fastest to take charge and safest for use.
Irony is Lithium is highly reactive to water and you just put a lot of it in the sea.
Venice isn't going to look good for a while.
Nice video btw.
Most normal day in venice:
Being crushed by giant lithium skyscrapers 💀🙏
the US actually have a very large untapped resource of Lithium in the salton sea, when its finally able to be extracted, california would be the Saudi Arabia of Lithium.
Can you do Ultimate Time Comparison
Reckon most of the people in some of those countries aren't doing too well.
I expected Venice to be less normal-looking. We always hear about the canals instead of streets -- I sort of expected it to be hundreds of buildings poking up out of the water. 😁
Silicon would be a cool follow up to this video.
Very good
Id like to see a comparison to what amount would be needed to replace every combustion motor currently in use on the planet. I suspect 93mt might not even be enough.
Not even close.
You'd need about 12 billion tonnes just to replace every car. There are about 1.47 billion cars and each takes about 8 kg of lithium.
@@MeMe-zg7gx Not enough to replace each car once? So even if there was enough you can only have one car.
The worlds switching to Sodium battery's currently.
The only thing that I don't like is it seems like it takes awhile for yall to come out with new videos I don't know if yall do that on purpose or what the deal is you ALWAYS got me bitting my finger nails waiting for other GREAT video love it love it love it once again I will be waiting bitting my nails to watch other damn good video just like the one I just watched thanks for great entertainment and knowledge of what the world and universe has to offer james
El triángulo del litio. 🇦🇷🤝🇧🇴🤝🇨🇱
Yes new video.
And we are still discovering more and hungry for more.
i had no idea that australia had so much lithium
Now compare how many years it would take to break it all down based on the projected number of cars/products manufactured between now and 2050.
oh man now venice owns all the world's lithium
I'm so happy, coz today I found my friends. They're in my head...
If you ever update this it might be interesting to include the recycling centers somehow
1:40 Poor San Giorgio Maggiore
Argentina principal target of the superpowers.
That's a lot of Lithium.
As a bolivian we have a lot of lithium in our country ,but depends of the government to explode it and casually our goverment is extremely corrupt so is difficult to produce anything from it.
This animation video will help infants to understand quickly
So what will happen once we run out of lithium? back to steam machines?
So much lithium blocks in one place..
As Czech person, i waited for my country to show up. And it is really high altrough he have not much land area.
If more of these are found, then economically, the price of it should decrease, right? Meaning cheaper price of most things that uses it as their components, right?
Well now Italy has it all.
This seems... awfully specific. Have you thought of doing another ocean-depth-related video, perhaps about sea creatures?
Yes, I try to make all topics
Bolivia: no tendre mar, pero tengo Litio
looks like we're not going green anytime soon with only that amount of LITHIUM.
Should have done the estimate in the worlds sea water.
That's about 10kg lithium per person.
Not a lot tbh - imagine every person had an electric car and their own power grid at home.
A typical EV car battery has 8 - 10 kg of lithium already ... so even if we mined every single bit of it (and recycled it instead of it getting burned in waste landfills) ... there wouldn't be nearly enough.
What is the next video about
What about metal? Pls next video with metal or iron or titanium
you just crushed some of Venice's buildings
What if you explode it
Maybe we need to start recycling more than we're mining virgin resources.
