  • What the heck do you mean by feathering, Rachel?? Today, it's explained! Today, we're doing a mini-vid on the feathering technique I've mentioned countless times in my video, but have never really dived into. So check it out!

    I’m really enjoying your channel. I ama complete beginner to adult coloring. This is exactly the type of video I’m looking for to help me learn techniques without feeling like hopeless. You break it down so it feels like these skills are unattainable. Thank you!

    Hi. I’m new to your channel and have really enjoyed coloring like I did when I was a kid. You mentioned a few times that the key is light pressure and yet it sounds like your pencils are really digging in and dragging across the paper. I’ll keep watching and hope to figure out how to improve my techniques and end results. Thanks for the tips!

    I just found your channel and I love your technique here. I especially like it because I think I can do it! I have all the Prisma pencils and the blending pencils too. I’d really rather not use gamsol for blending, but I like the look. I will be looking at your other videos. Happy Thanksgiving!

    Rachel thankyou so very much for the detailed demonstration of how you manually feather and blend using the special pencil.I enjoyed it but please give me details on how burnishing is so different than blending ..why can u not buy burnishing pencils separate from blending pencils and what are several techniques to use plus new variations.

    I do this when I'm coloring flowers. I have a question tho . When I'm doing my light layers to build up even after like 7 to 10 layers I still have small white spots not from missing them it's the tooth.. so if I want to keep some of the colors light if I keep layering with a light pressure I end up going to dark and the dark colors end up burnishing and I'm left with that smeary lines mess look. So frustrating bc I spend like an hour or more on just one little piece of the page.

    • @shannonwooters3443
      @shannonwooters3443 Před 6 lety

      So my question is how many layers do you use or are the professionals using a few layers and then mineral spirits to get a finished bright page.

    • @ladyhecate9450
      @ladyhecate9450 Před 6 lety +1

      I use a blending pencil. I use Vellum Bristol Cover 67 pound white and it HAS some teeth to it. So I use a blending pencil to blend. I like using a blending pencil, the colors seem to become brighter.

    Are you just using the name feathering instead of blending? It seems like the same to me? What are the differences? Ok nevermind the last petal you did showed the difference. Enjoyed the video.

      When you blend you are layering...also known as feathering (well how she is doing it anyways)

    • @Sick1982
      @Sick1982 Před 2 lety

      @@twosnakesonesword3299 No. Blending and layering are two different techniques for creating color transitions. When using wax based pencils you can blend by using a blender or a lighter pencil. When using oil based pencils you either have to use layering or need to use a solvent to blend. You can layer wax based pencils, but the result is different, and when doing this you generally want to be blending afterwards.

    • @heikesiegl2640
      @heikesiegl2640 Před 6 lety

      2626firefly sure, why not? If you ad water it will blend even more. May be difficult to handle the way you want it

  • @ginatroutman7004

    Too many harsh lines. Try coloring the whole area with the lightest color first, then adding the medium and dark colors. Blends much better.
