Wise words! Glad I'm not the only one that spends time scrambling to places just to walk away with some images that I am not entirely happy with!
Haha, thankfully the enjoyment is found in the entire process. Thanks Jeff :)
Miss the time when social media doesnt exist and you just go out on a location, apreciate the view, take some photos, dont compare with the others and fully enjoy the day 😊
My goodness, the effort you put into this video is incredible! Even though you didn’t get any images that you really liked, it was a beautiful place to see. Thanks for taking us along!!
My pleasure. Thanks a lot Trish !
I’ve learned to be happy with just going out and enjoying nature.
This video is gold! It couldn’t be said any better
Thanks a lot mate! :)
Thank you William! Great presentation. I too often forget to look behind me.
🙏🏻
My view is that whenever I go out and take pictures that I ultimately don’t keep, I have still practiced training my eye and working on photographic techniques so I will be better when I come across something that is worth photographing and keeping. Plus you have the bonus of spending time out in nature. No wasted time
Exactly. Thanks mate :)
Great story telling. You made it feel like we were right there with you.
Thanks legend :)
Such a good reminder mate, thanks.
Guilty of having fallen into the trap, due to time constraints, of feeling that I must produce images whenever I go out and then trying way too hard!
My pleasure mate, thank you as always!
I personally really appreciated this, William...thank you as always 🙏💚
Fantastic video 📸
Thanks so much Gary.
Those owl eyes had me! Reminded me of how my eyes felt when I needed to be on antidepressants for a bit. So so wide!! Great spot to enjoy even if the images you came with weren't ones you ended up keeping. So good to just get out into nature and enjoy it's movement and colour, its contrasts and dynamic. Thanks for sharing a little bit of NZ gold.
Beautiful, that owl was perfect & graciously posing for the camera!
I was so grateful to share that moment. Thank you :)
Excellent video. Even photo schools can't give students this sort of real world information.
Thank you
My god, I love these NZ adventures and explores. Really stirs my boyhood adventure spirit! The owl was super chill. What an absolute majestic landscape.
Haha, thanks a lot mate! :)
A Morepork! Lucky you had your wits about you and didn't freak it out. I just love NZ birds. Beautiful location you found at the end of your dodgy trek Will, such clear water. I did like the early part with the tree ferns and water running wildly all over the place trying to find a path. Love the roadside capture. Your journeys and stories are just as appealing as your photography.
Thanks for the video. You do go the distance for the shot and yet you never know where you will find the shot.
Thanks Ken
I love the raw honesty in this Video William. Thank you for still sharing your adventure and the photos. It's good to see things don't always work out as we expect!
Thank you mate that means so much
Well said William, as Jeffrey said... Wise words. Loved the owl image. Thanks for sharing the beautiful scenery that NZ delivers.
A very interesting video and a very valid point just enjoy being out....how dod thst lovely owl image turn out...i couldn't believe how friendly it looked....loved the framing of the mountain image 🙂👍
Thanks, as always Brian!
You don't have to get the shot every time, landscape photography has a lot to do about exploring new locations and enjoying the process. Great video Will.
Right on. Cheers John :)
Good one William - so great for follow your bush scramble and attempts at getting an image. It’s the journey right? Thanks for sharing and being brave.
Thanks Rolf! :)
I had to chuckle... I've had similar experiences when looking at compositions and later, on the computer, realized I didn't really have anything that provide "wow"-value. Do I regret those hikes into the middle of nowhere? Not at all... But it does sometimes cause me to question my eyes... lol Much like that interesting tree, I sometimes think we get a wee bit of tunnel-vision when we see an intriguing shape that causes us to overlook certain distractions elsewhere in a composition. I sometimes think to myself, "I knooooow theres an image hiding in this", then never quite find the right combination or light or some such. :)
The locater beacon you mention elsewhere really is something I need to investigate, for I do find myself in some wilderness locations alone far from cell service. The beacon would at least prevent any mistake I made from becoming a news story months or years later.
Thanks for the comment mate. All relatable and all fun nonetheless!
Definitely worth looking into a PLB for sure.
Great video Will and a hard slog in there. A Morepork great to see and a beautiful bird. As you know in Oz we have similar the Mopoke. Listen to their calls and compare them and even your birds have a NZ accent!
haha I'll keep an ear out next time, cheers mate!
They can't all be bangers. With beauty like that though, I could've spent hours just sitting on a rock by the waterfall.
Cheers Dave!
That owl, looking at you, like "What you lookin at". Great adventure as always
Haha, so cool right! Was pretty thankful for that moment.
Omg the owl ❤ !!!! I have to say my fav shots are always the unplanned ones - but the adventures top them all - especially if you can enjoy them with good company too :)
Thanks Iza ☺️☺️🙏🏻🙏🏻
You photographed an owl up close and personal and you believe you came away with nothing? This was another great video. Lastly you get the money shot by your vehicle. other Nature says 'You're welcome". : )
I've been sometimes walking to places without even take my camera out of the bag. But spending time in nature is always great.
Thanks for the valuable lesson there, mate.
Thanks legend! :)
For every great photo I’ve captured, I’ve spent probably around 5 days in the field. I like the journey.
Great to see the morepork …. Well spotted! May not have been productive in a photographic sense, but looks like another great day out in the Fiordland bush.
Thanks Grant!
Thanks! That was a perilous climb up those rocks. At least you did not tempt the equally or more perilous gravity assist coming down.
I just luv your videos, they are so real 🙏❤️
💚💚💚💚
Thanks for taking us along with you. Spectacular forest. Isn't that the way things can go; hours invested with little or nothing to show for it, and then, heading home somethings catches your eye. Bonus, after a great hike. Cheers from the Canadian east coast.
Thank you Dana! I spent some time in Toronto and Niagara back in 2013 :)
Love watching these videos and the messages within. I really enjoy videos when you are out in the field as I know I'm a bit limited in my shenanigans out there. More often than not the adventure yielded better results than the photos. Thanks for discussing the "rejects".
Thank you Leanne, as always
the morepork!! 🦉 that was very cool, have been wanting to get it. cool bush bash mission and epic waterfalls, cool adventure anyways :)
Cheers mate!
I really enjoy hearing your thought processes. Wish I could go out with you. The terrain reminds me so much of previous adventures when I hiked to see the spring runoff in the Rocky Mtns, Colorado USA. Lovely finale! 💙
Thanks for the support :)
Excellent video Will! Thanks for the reminder that it is ok to not end up with keeper photos. Thanks for making this video!😎
No worries mate, thank you :)
Thanks so much for this!
You're welcome :)
That Owl... And the fact that you could go so close to it! 👋
Really thankful for that moment. Cheers mate :)
Thanks for the vid mate 🤙🏼 rings very true. Have a top week.
Thanks, you too!
That class today was great! Thanks for spending your time with us today. Can’t afford the package offered to day, but I did upgrade the free offer through our email offer.
Thank you! :)
Oh man I have been in the same boat so many times. I used to go get an image and be posting but then I realized that sometimes it’s better to not post anything if you are not happy with how they turned out.
100% mate :)
I find myself taking crazy risks when trying to get the shot. I often think back after getting the shot and slightly cringe to myself but at the time i seem to be in another realm. Flow state i guess.
Exactly. It also has a way of blocking out discomfort (like cold and hunger etc). Pretty special really.
Scampering over large slick boulders is a challenge. It’s even more of a challenge when you’re carrying all your gear and trying to keep it (and yourself) from getting banged up.
And trying to film video along with it 🤪
I wonder if you captured the composition at 3:32. The framing looks very interesting with the trees. Amazing video again, love how you explore new places
Thanks mate. Nah, seems ok in motion video but in a still there was just too much going on and no solid focal point to draw the eye to. Cheers :)
Oh that’s what you were talking about! That’s still an awesome adventure though !
Absolutely. Thanks Fi :)
Beautiful waterfall
Nice find mate. I always take a locator beacon for missions like that.
Thanks. Me too. Just lives in the camera bag.
❤❤❤😊😊🎉🎉
Just home from a such a hike now 🤨👍
Awesome :)
Hi William, I was just thinking about my fav landscape photo today. That the composition would have been better, if I wasn't limited by reaching the end of a fenced platform in a rainforest here in Qld. I have an older drone but the tiny sensor makes for average photos. Saving for that Mavic 3 with 4/3 sensor, it can go where I can't !
Yes it is a shame. Some places just become loved to death and then we must let them go to tourism, for the masses. Thankfully there is still enough wild places out there to be explored, even in QLD.
Thanks again Will, such a shame it didn't quite work out , would have been an awesome opportunity in slightly different circumstances, but a great day in paradise.
Totally a fine, it was a fun afternoon. Cheers mate!
What's the stroy with a "two-week break" Will? Thought you've closed the chanel here, haha ;).
Only joking... the aurora was way more imoportant last weekend - no doubt about it.
As they say "no sacrifice, no victory" - just your victory that day was in a different spot - nice one!
Haha, thanks mate. Unfortunately I don't think I will be able to sustain regular posting here, now that I've kicked off my workshop season. I'll do my best but don't want to force anything.
@@WilliamPatinoPhotography Sure, no worries, that's totally understandable Will. Regards!
That owl is so cute
🫶 Love it! Not sure if you ever considered it... along with publishing a book or two... 😉😉 but I know I would surely subscribe to your Patreon account if you should ever choose to do one! 🫶
Thanks man it really means a lot. Working on the book this year 😉🙏🏻😅
You must put more effort into getting your photos than any other landscape photographer ever.
Haha. I appreciate the gesture mate. Have a nice day :)
