    On my recent trip to Virginia beach, I met with Steve Fox. Steve is a Pilot and businessman who along with his partners, Jack Fox and Andy Gibbs purchased Hampton roads airport from Gateway L.L.C. through bankruptcy proceedings in May of 2000. They had initially purchased only 230 acres of the airport and later used $4.7 million supported by the FAA and DOAV to purchase an additional 404 acres in June of 2001 for the construction of new runways, and for future development of the airport.Ownership did change in the next few years. Steve Fox now owns the majority of VAA and directs its multi manager team and future. Now consisting of 634 acres, improved with 2 paved runways, various taxiways, 170 T-hangars, 35 corporate hangars and 2 office/terminal buildings, KPVG ranks in the top two busiest non-towered airports in Virginia. With approximately 250 based aircraft, KPVG is currently designated as a reliever airport for Norfolk International Airport. Steve continues to commit to the airport’s growth and improvement. Current and future plans include an additional 350,000 SF of hangars, 20,000 SF of offices and 500,000 SF of warehousing and air freight facilities. His goal is to turn KPVG into a model for privately owned general aviation airports.

    My aircraft is based out of KCPK, Chesapeake Regional Airport, KPVG’s next door neighbor. I have been really impressed by their progress in the last two decades. I have no doubt that they will continue to be successful and add value to Southeastern Virginia’s aviation community.

    I Love what you have done for not aviation in general but how you have addressed everything aviation and made it what it is today. Keep up the excellent work and Godspeed on your future endeavors.

    I really liked that. Although it was almost an infomercial, Steve Fox is a great speaker, and he is obviously very passionate about aviation, and the airport he owns. If only more businesses out there were owned by those who are both are passionate about the business they are engaged in, and know how to run a successful business, rather than being run by accountants.

    While building time in the 80’s, I worked at a couple of older-style FBO’s. One, at an international airport, was one of a string of FBO’s on the field. We maintained a majority share of the business on the field, in spite of our older look and amenities. Oddly, it was that older, classic feel, our customers liked, including some big celebrities, that were regulars. What I see here, reminds me of that, but nicer. This is a beautiful terminal, but with that less-corporate feel. Congratulations on saving this great airport and the unique vision you have had for it. I will certainly visit. Safe skies !

    If I had been Bill Gates, I would have long bought the land on which Meigs Field Airport was located - which was stupidly closed because the Senate had not approved renewal of the business license for another 25 years and a mayor (Richard M. Daley - probably leftist send bulldozers demolish the runway without warning in 2002 - I would rebuild the airport and its structures exactly as it was before it was destroyed and finally could actually fly as I always did when flying the first MS Flight Simulators 😁

    • @AviationNut
      @AviationNut Před 4 lety

      Yeah I agree, I couldn't believe when I turned on the news in the morning and found out that my favorite little airport was all torn up by bulldozer. I live 4 miles from where the airport was located and remember going there with my father and watching the planes. That airport could have been very profitable for Chicago if it was under the right management. To this day I still can't believe that our stupid Mayor ordered the airport to be destroyed without anyone knowing, some news stations at first thought that someone with a bulldozer simply went crazy and destroyed the runways, then they found out that it was the mayor that ordered the destruction of the runways.

    • @wayneco
      @wayneco Před 4 lety +1

      Daley did this after taking about a billion from the feds for expansion of OHare Airport with the understanding that Migs would continue to run. Daley got his funds and the next day he ordered Miegs destroyed. I read because his wife didn’t like it, she wanted it to be a park, but that may be hearsay.

    $38,000,000 in Government grants. That’s taxpayer money. That’s corporate socialism alive and well in USA. Good for the economy and the taxpayer. Don’t ever let the word ‘socialism’ scare you…… Too many politicians are trying though.
    Great video.
