- Today I play the small tech-demo that released for the fanmade Super Mario Galaxy DS Project! This project aims to recreate Super Mario Galaxy on the Nintendo DS system and oh my god... it looks EXTREMELY GOOD so far! I hope this project does get continued because let's be real, we've all wanted SMG on our DS systems, right?!

This reminds me of when people used to make GameCube and Wii portable concepts/hoaxes and now they are home built. It's cool to see this "Mario Galaxy DS hoax" finally become a reality, even if it's incomplete as of now.
During the pandemic, I learned that game was a gift from heaven!

69th like, and can relate 100%.
Never played this gem due to a lack of interest my parents had in the current state of video games. Owned a ds and wiiU, but didnt revisit the Wii Games (except Wii Sports and Rhythm Heaven). Playing this on the switch as a polished version was great. A great time for everyone!

so pretty much what's in the demo is that:
mario squared and hurry scurry are the only two galaxies to have power stars as sky station is incomplete (so no peewee piranha) and the test levels silver stars crash the game, you can't die as you have no health, but falling into pits crashes the game, and getting sucked into a black hole doesn't crash the game but leaves the level render less and can only be fixed by exiting and re-entering, there are only four enemies which are mini goombas, octoombas, one urchin, and one snoodle, the question blocks cannot be hit as they are not solid, and there's no button that lets you talk to npc's, and that's it.
there's also a demon turf DS demo that use's the same engine as this, but its more different.
I had been following this project for a long time
I'm pretty sure it started off as a mario 64 mod project and then it was rebuilt from scratch
nah the earliestestestest version was a very short tech demo made on an original engine that only had like 4 levels, no sfx, and the music was an innacurate midi of one of the original mario galaxy's songs (i dont rember the name i just know the midi was innacurate like halfway through)
tho that did have an alternate version called bigmodel which was pretty much the samr except wtih mario's model from 64 ds and only one level, which was some place from mario sunshine with a lot of missing textures
So, turns out Mario Galaxy DS was real after all of these years after all!
I’ve ran it on my DSi. I can confirm it does, in fact, work on real hardware.

This is absolutely incredible. What people are able to do after years of learning the hardware is amazing.
I love this demo. This is one of the best Mario fan games, is one of the most original Mario fan game, and it’s only a demo. If Nintendo takes it down for not being “original” enough, I would be pissed.

I think that if they try to recreate the whole game, some elements will need to be compressed
Of course. Galaxy 1 and 2 are very large games and they also really push the wii to it's limit in my eyes.
Yeah, the gravity can improve but idk if it'll get to a full recreation with this visual fidelity

Whenever the team released this demo around a month ago, I installed it on my modded 3DS and I was blown away by how accurate the graphics were to the original game. What was even more surprising is it ran at a solid 30 fps.
I would pay full price for a full Mario Galaxy DS recreation my god this so good

Woah, this really does exist! Only ever knew of the cool hoax version. It would be neat if this one managed to implement the features shown in the hoax video, but it could be tough or impossible since I think it involved linking the Wii and DS games together.
i just modded my dsi and cant wait to play the finished version
