This game is NOT an RPG… it’s more of an arena brawler. Sure it's not TOP TOP tier but I think it has something to offer (not at full price) it would be a nice 50% sales pickup I reckon, especially for arena fighter/anime fans. Mark

As someone who watched the new anime run while it came out I'm just happy to see more from the series. Hopefully better editons can get traction.
The Dynasty/Samurai Warriors games are among some of my favourite games series, so hearing this has some similarities to those has actually increased the hype! Adding this to the wishlist and waiting for a sale, thanks for covering this!

Damn, this is the only positive review i´ve seen of the game. Everyone is demolishing it. Sad but at least i don´t have to buy one more game in a really packed end of year.

Not open world but, if you want DQ arpg, there's DQ Heroes 2. Shame the switch version never came to the west since it has exclusive content
Im fine this isn't open world game, in my opinion there is too much of open world games today so I like this is diffrent RPG action adventure game without open worl. 😊
I've never seen it advertised as OW and thus I was clearly expecting some kind of musou game. It is not-so-funny to see how many reviews are totally biased by this false expectations, evidently there was some miscommunication from the publisher

I was a big fan of the manga when I was a kid, even though I knew nothing about DQ, and I was so excited at the announcement! It doesn't look half bad to be honest, might as well grab it when it goes on sale...

Your review is the only one of very few that actually bothers to explain the battle gameplay mechanics. Most others I have seen just written it off as "simple or shallow combat". I was like really? There is got to be more I thought.
Hopefully it just gives a little more info about what’s actually in the game

Honestly I think the Trials of Mana remake is underrated for using this type of action combat but in a RPG.
More games should attempt to expand on that idea instead, whilst refining it.
I was actually worried about this game when I saw the trailer and gameplay. I was thinking that the switch could not pull it off since it's a new game and the hardware is really ageing. Glad that its on solid 30fps instead of trying to be 60.

I was an absolute fan of the anime, cause it had action and tons of it. Though it might not be a game for everyone, I still think it's worth picking up. Though $60 is not worth the price with the initial content in the game. I'm definitely gonna pick this one up, but I'm gonna wait for a sale to pop up sometime hopefully.

I was personally hoping for an rpg but am currently watching the anime and can definitely see why they went this route. Im excited to watch the story play out in english dub since im watching the sub of the anime so at least it wont feel like the exact same experience.
I really enjoyed this Dragon Quest anime way back, the human character styles were a nice change from the usual Akira Toriyama style and it had a fantastic cast of heroes and villains in an awesome narrative. This is a must own game for me. I know that there will be an import physical for the Switch, is there any word that there'll be a physical for western regions? Because there is DLC for this game and I don't believe that different region games and different region DLC sync.
The heroes were absolutely awful. Boring, generic human-sues and not much beyond that, kind of like 90-something percent of anime and games which all have EQUALLY shallow and bland heroes. Meanwhile, the villains were as diverse and charming as usual, plus with the lizard guy, we get the usual garbage of "Non-humans are only allowed to be happy if they s@$% humanity's dick" type garbage. It's like no one knows how to write a story that isn't frustrating and painful to get through anymore.

Beyond the price, what makes me reluctant to buy it is that the game covers about a fourth of the manga storyline. Would definitely sign up for a game covering the complete plot.

i relatively just finished watching the anime, really enjoyed it, especially when considering when this story is written, really enjoyable and to the point, i was excited too to this game, but after watching your video, I don't believe I have a good resson to place a big amount in time on it
This was solid glad you clarified its not an RPG as i think thats why noisy pixel was as harsh as it was in its review. Not once was the game advertised as one anyway. Im really impressed with the switch'd performance on this one but then again i feel Unreal engine is better optimized for swtch than Unity is. Great review again from you guys glad to see the switch didnt get shaftwd on this port. But ill still be picking up a physical from play asia for PS5

I remember reading the manga back in the 90's. Great story. Nothing out of the ordinary but well written and well told. Also watched the 90's anime which I thoroughly enjoyed, too bad it was cut short at one of the most important moments of the story. I still need to watch the new anime but I will definitely do that at some point, it's high on my waiting list. As for the game, it looks quite good and the arena brawler slant is interesting for a Dragon Quest game. I'll wait for a sale though, too expensive for my taste, especially since the game only covers about half the anime from what I've heard, so we can expect another one down the line.

This was one of the best anime i watched as a kid...glad it came back...not picking right now since borderlands 3 and batman arkham trilogy are coming but i'll definetly picking up

A port of dragon quest viii on switch would be heavenly 🤤. Will any of you be reviewing Not Fifa 24 I'm sure many are interested in seeing what they've done now that they've ditched the legacy edition. Also one pace is absolute clutch 👌

The look of this game for some reason is reminding me of the 2nd Fullmetal Alchemist game on ps2
I love the anime. Its a really awesome classical adventure history. Has exactly 100 episodes. Can't recommend enough! But I don't know about the game. It looks too much like the anime. I really wish it was something different for a new experience. Still I love Dai so maybe I will get in the future.
Some of us are 30 year olds with kids so we appreciate non open world games. Thank you for the non doom and gloom review

People complain when it’s not a open world. Not ever games needs to be open world.

Mark we need a review of Paw Patrol World for the Nintendo Switch, kinda reminds me of the Mobile Paw Patrol Game my kid loves.
I agree with your criticism but I find the story and characters so charming I didn't mind paying full price.
I think it's a little sad that "not interconnected, it's therefore repedetive and shallow" I long for the times where I just play games stage by stage these days.

I saw this game and wanted right off. I pre-ordered it. Based on what I saw... I figured it wouldn't run well on switch. Frame rates jumping and not what.. so picked it up on another platform. Glad to hear it runs well... maybe I will double dip on a sale.

Anyone who hasn't experiened The Adventure of Dai and is also an anime/manga fan should first check out the anime remake or the old manga before trying the game. It's so good, and while I'm not ruling out the chance this game can stand well on its own, you can only ever have your first-time experience of the same story once, so might as well get that experience in the best, most complete way possible.
