Oh yes compartments are back baby😍. This video made me even more excited for the new ComfortJets for České dráhy. Those won't have as many cool gadgets, business class and compartments as the new raljet, but they will have a higher ratio of second class and what seems to me like better seats and better seat pitch, which for me is more important than the gadgets on railjet. Great video as always Thibault, keep up the great work! ❤

In the old RJ the first and second class from ÖBB and CD use exactly the same seats and pitch. The difference is that one of the cars is equipped as first class in a ÖBB RJ and as second class in CD.

I have traveled numerous times on RailJet and it's hands down the BEST train in Europe. While the First Class seats seem to be wider and quite upgraded, it seems like they are boxing the business class seats into a cramped cabin. Currently their business class seats are the best seats in Europe, they are spaced out, wide and roomy and very comfortable. Some of the seats are perfect for solo travelers. But now they are sandwiched side by side. I'll make sure to check it out this summer.

I can explain why this train only reached 200km/h, since I made the timetable of the train. Usually this train is a rapid train with conventional cars, and it was planned like that, but around three weeks in Advance I got told to change the train to Intercity but not to raise the maximum speed, since the train schedule already has been publically released and the times shouldn’t change anymore. But at least the train ride until Salzburg was nice and the train was until then on time.

The higher seats were an idea by the industrial design Bureau PriestmanGoode so you can stow larger luggage under your seat. But in the original concept there were not these columns in the middle of the seat where the energy sockets are. So it only makes half sense now.

I also took this train from Vienna to Feldkirch and my first impression in first class was similar to yours. Indescribably comfortable
I find it exciting how many CZcamsrs travelled by train and I didn't recognise anyone.
At 15:23 I'm sitting at the table by the window on the right, that's me in grey :)
I was travelling with some friends. It was really nice. So I'll be travelling on it again soon.
I'm not particularly enthusiastic about the rubbish sacks, and the business class also offers few advantages over the first class
And I have to say, Business in the first generation was much better

Servus, @UnterwegsinOesterreichundEU!

Also Ansprüche würde ich jetzt in Grenzen halten.

Excellent video! Long live the Railjets. The trains that connect Europe(7 countries), they seriously deserve more recognition! Last year I travelled more than 10000 km easily, but I expected little more from the upgrade to Railjet 2.
From my point of view, the current ones are more than sufficient, and in some places (Biz class) even better than the 2. I was also hoping that they would lose the leather on the 1 class seats. Good for 2-3 hours, but when you are coming from Zurich to Vienna, your bottoms are going to be toasted after 5 hours. That's not exactly a first class experience. So I would recommend the second class to 95% of people. The upgrades on economy class are most substantial, good to see that the seats get more “protection” from passengers and also have a handle, and i also love the cabins.
Now the only thing is left is to upgrade the German part so we get better speeds in Salzburg-Innsbruck or build a new high speed line in the mountains.

Thank you for an excellent video which adds a lot to what I learnt yesterday from Sebastian’s video. I am a great fan of the ‘old’ Railjet trains, often using them when travelling around Austria on a First Class Interrail The extra second class seats are desperately needed to cope with the passengers generated by the €1095 Euro a year all-Austria Klima Ticket. But I am already expecting to see adverse comments in Eisenbahn Õsterreich about the heavy forces exerted on the track by TWO Taurus Locos! (The rubbish bags is an idea which I suspect that ÕBB has taken from the Scandinavian railway systems.)

It will be interesting to see how Business Class fares on the new stock, from what I could quickly see the seats don’t look quite as comfortable, the old seats were veritable leather recliner armchairs with leg/foot rests. I liked the siting of the old business section with compartments and a couple of single seats in an open section shut off away from the busier and noisier first class section. In the new stock the business compartments just seem to be tacked on to the first class open saloon as an afterthought. I look forward to your review, but unless OBB have at least somehow maintained the standard of the Business Class product, I’m less inclined to pay the supplement to reserve a seat, admittedly only another €15.

I think the business class is a shame. And the glass panles between compartments (both in 1st, and 2nd class) is a bad idea, this panel don't give the privacy for the travelers, and if the compartment next to you turn on the lights, but you want to rest, you won't be able to rest or chill, or use your colored light (wich is realy cool). I think the other problem is the trash management. In the 2nd class, the bags might be okay, but in the 1st and business class this is unacceptable. If the ÖBB will solve theese problems, the train will be the best!

I have ridden the Business class of the old railjet twice - once from Zürich HB to Wien HBF and once from Wien HBF to Heidelberg HBF (an astounding 10.5 Hours, although I actually only got to ride from Salzburg because of a train issue) and I can confidently say that it is the best experience I've ever had on a train, completely worth the €15 upgrade fee, and almost completely unnecessary for the train. Especially considering how much of an upgrade the 1st class got I totally understand why they cut it. If 1st class was any less perfect on these trains I could see some frustration, but there's really no need for the business class.

All seemed a bit confusing, so i can see why they went for 1 main through station.

Amtrak has new trains. The Airl trains are schduler to arrive to th NEC in 2026. This is the Amtrak version of the Siemens Venture cars, the current ones that started service in the Midwest are a bit different as they are funded by the states. In the last few weeks the San Joaquins new Venture cars started enterung service.
Even the delayed Avelia Liberty, that will replace the Acela sets) is ontrack now and hopefully will enter service this year or at the start of 2025.
To get an ÖBB style servive rgecUS will have to heavily invest in infrastructure. There are right now some major investments on the NEC but it's focust on soecific year old problems (like reolacing old bridges and tunnels and adding connecting tunnels fron NJ to Manhattan) and not corridor wide improvements.

  • @stephanweinberger
    @stephanweinberger Před 2 měsíci +2

@19:00 the idea of the raised seats is to create more space for luggage underneath.
My biggest complaint is the paper trash bags. I have a bad feeling that this will backfire; my prediction is that people will put them under the seats where they will easily tip over when the train runs over points or brakes, spilling the trash on the floor.
I understand that ÖBB wanted to get rid of the small trashcans under the seats in the old RailJets. Not only are these getting increasingly gross because they are hard to clean, they are also a lot of work for the cleaners: bend down in every single row to collect a tiny amount of trash.
But paper bags aren't the solution. There really should be a proper trash container every few rows, with a trash bag inside so it's easy and hygienic to empty out.
Another thing I don't quite understand is the distribution of the high- and low floor areas. Why is the area for bicycles _upstairs_? And why isn't it a proper compartment, so that the bikes are out of the way? Losing a couple of seats for a proper bike/luggage compartment wouldn't be that bad, as the trains now have 2 more cars anyways.
And why is the Bistro in a low-floor section? It's still inaccessible for wheelchair users, as the wheelchair spaces are in a different car, separated by a high-floor section - so I don't see the benefit. Why not have the Bistro in the middle of a high-floor cluster of cars, so that the staff doesn't have to climb stairs when they do the at-seat service in 1st class?
In my opinion the ideal distribution would have been:
    1. low-floor 1st class + business compartments
    2. high-floor 1st class
    3. high-floor restaurant (+ 2nd class)
    4. high-floor 2nd class
    5. low-floor 2nd class with wheelchair spaces
    6. low-floor 2nd class with bicycle compartment
    7. low-floor 2nd class
    8. low-floor 2nd class
    9. high-floor 2nd class & cab car
That would minimize the amount of stairs for the bistro staff's at-seat service (serving 1st class & wheelchair users), and the wheelchair spaces and bicycle compartments would be near the center of the train (i.e. always at the same location at the platform, even if the wagon order gets reversed).
Also, from a manufacturing perspective, this would minimize the number of principal floor plans & door/window arrangements:
    a. high-floor
    b. high-floor bistro
    c. low-floor
    d. low-floor with compartment (bicycle/luggage or accessible toilet)

Personally I think the trash bag are okay. But did you manage to see any easily recognizable trash bins during the walkthrough?

    • @stephanweinberger
      @stephanweinberger Před 2 měsíci

@@digitaleswerken there are some in the entrance areas, but still quite small.
Another problem with the trash bags is logistics. Especially on longer trips that don't terminate domestically (the first trainsets are intended for the Munich-Bologna route) they will inevitably run out and/or require maintaining a stockpile at the terminus (or re-stocking along the way).
So unless ÖBB can also convince DB, FS, CD and MAV to use similar bags there will be additional logistics involved. Bins using standard trash bags wouldn't have that problem.
I just doesn't make sense to me to add complexity for an inferior solution to a fairly basic problem...
