Netflix's Avatar is Actually Good

  • To be honest, I didn’t expect live-action Avatar from Netflix to be any good. When I saw the first trailer, it didn’t dispel my doubts regarding this project. Live-action remakes of animated stuff are always at the very least questionable endeavor. First, because the artistic value of the live-action versions isn’t clear. A lot of live-action movies or shows frankly have nothing new to say. They are made in order to capitalize on the already existing IP. What is the point of retelling the same story again, conveying the same ideas and thoughts, but with real actors instead of drawn characters? In the case of Avatar, it’s not based on a book, or a comic book or anything else, so the excuse that live-action is just a new adaptation of a source material doesn’t work since there is no source material except the cartoon itself.

I really enjoyed the live action alot. It would have been nice to have a higher budget and more time so the show can be extended to fully flesh out what its doing but thats too much to ask for. Each episode cost about 15M now as is.
Im happy that they took out less important scenes or episodes so what we got in place is fantastic; we got to see the genocide which was epic, Lu tens funeral, that amazing opening scene that made my jaw drop the first time i saw it, that earthbender that captured iroh showing the effects of war and what iroh actually had done, the 41st division, azula on how she became azula, more depth to ozais character, gyatso choosing to stay behind to help Aang and to tell him its not your fault, KOIZILLA! We got some fantastic things

I really dislike the delivery of lines from Aangs actor, he sounds too modern if that makes sense? He sounds like he would be in Young Sheldon

Rii-iight ,, because Sokka wasn't literally making modern jokes 👀👀
Also, Young Sheldon is set in the 80-90s. Not as modern as we think

@@WittyBittyAnimeEdits what are you on about? Young Sheldon is a modern show because it was made recently. Also, Young Sheldon being set in the 80s doesn’t help your point when Avatar is set hundreds of years before that. And I have no idea what you are saying about Sokka, I didn’t even mention him.

Sections better than the original? Sorry but you're just wrong there. The fact that Ozai doesn't appear a lot just works, because he was the final boss of the whole series. Zuko cannot make his great developments in netflix later on because he didn't have the childhood he had in the original.
    Good video overall tho.

It depends on the person but for the fact that this is live action, it really brings out the world and its people and adds to the overall lore and provides more context. Ozai appearing earlier gives more depth to his character and you actually get to see how he treats his kids and how he is as a father. Revealing ozai late like in the cartoon works cause hes the baddie but thats all it does. We dont know how zukk will be for the live action until we finish it, then lets make that judgement. We are seeing more context to zukos agni kai, we are seeing more context with his relationship with his father as well as with iroh, the addition of the 41st division was incredible, we actually go to see his whole war room scene and agni kai when in the cartoon most of it was exposition by iroh

@@kevinsims5791 it replaces, both cannot be true at the same time. Zuko wouldn't be the character he is in the original if it wasn't for the relationship with his father and sister. But in the live action Azula has a completely different role. The live action is its own thing.

What do you mean Zuko's casting was bad? He is one of the best cast, he looks the part and he played the character really well. And this statement that cast of Zuko should look good, have you forgotten how season 1 Zuko looked like. He was nowhere to be called good looking until late season 2. And the cast of Zuko looks good enough, just wait till he starts growing hair.
As for Azula, I agree it's not really good cast, but I think you have forgotten that Azula was 14, and the animation made her look to be in her late teens. Expecting a cast of a 14 year old girl to be hot like the cartoon is pretty weird. And it seems they are taking a different approach on Azula, which doesn't have to be a bad thing.
