Better and more clear tutorial than what half of the "professionals" on CZcams have made. Great job
I actually wanted to make the same comment. Really good tutorial with practical explanations.
the "professionals" just tell you to buy a fuckin 600$ webcam and 300$ mic lol.
Actually he copied step by step one of the professionals tutorial.

Agreed
God I miss great tutorials on CZcams that aren't filled with sponsor ads and over the top energy. Great job!
Thank you so much. Could you edit your comment to remove the use of God's name in the way you used it? I'm a Christian so that's why. Thanks.
@@zacharysilva I'm not a christian, but I'm curious as to the reason behind it? Is it something to do with respect and reverence? No pressure to respond though....
@@cziffrathegreat666 not saying it is, but it's the part where we as Christians shouldn't use "God's name" in vain. This is most likely the reason why he wishes you to remove the use of God's name. Hopefully that's clear, but he could have a different reason. Have a great day!
@@dth2574 alright thanks
@@cziffrathegreat666 It's because we shouldn't use God's holy name as just any other word to describe how we feel. So yes, it is about respect and reverence.

I’ve worked in the media full-time since 1994 and, before that, part-time since 1979. I’ve had college courses, factory training, industry seminars, trade show demonstrations and now teach digital media on this topic. This is, without any doubt or reservation, THE clearest, most concise, yet thorough and easy-to-understand tutorial on video settings and lighting I have ever seen.
You have a gift for teaching. Please keep making videos and please consider teaching these and other skills you have as a career.
Wow, thank you. That really means a lot.
"It's not your equipmets it's you"... proceeds to add a shotgun mic
I definitely made a mistake promising smth and then not delivering on it. I'll be careful of that in the future. after all I'm still learning😂
@@zacharysilva nice vid btw

A cheap alternative would be if you have an iphone to record the mic through there whilst filming on your camera, then take out the camera audio and replace it with the iphone audio in editing.
@@kelechi_77 Yeah you could do that also
Oh boy, YT just got the right video in its algorithm. Your growth is invincible.
For some reason this one hit something with the algorithm😂

I love how straight-to-the-point this video is. Most big youtubers always overcomplicate stuff like this. This is the way to go.
Agreed. This video was really informative.
The old CZcams. I love it.

What a king, roasting lazy content creators while laying clear facts, great tutorial
Algorithm struck gold with this video. The format feels like very early CZcams, too.
Great tutorial, man. Short and concise.
Ive seen this broken down in a million different videos. This is easily the best explanation.
Wow, thank you. That rlly means a lot.
If you have bad setup, getting a good camera will just mean you have bad setup in high resolution.
Great video! All of those are basic things to learn with your first camera!
Exactly. 👍
SO well said about putting all the weight on the camera instead of on what you're imaging! Ya can't make a Boomer into a Gen Zer with a better camera!
Changing the aperture and ISO was entirely a game changer with this setup! Not only did it get rid of the grain, but it created deeper, richer colors and more contrast!
Contrast is key to visual interest
Yeah, It's crazy what changing some settings can do.
It's also the one that shouldn't have been necessary. Beginners would set their cameras on auto, and it would default to pretty much that. He made the camera settings as bad as possible on purpose. A beginner is much more likely to have a camera that just can't look that good :/
"It is not the camera! it's how you use it" - still blow my mind bro

Real talk: I just learned more about lighting watching this video than the several that brought me here. Thanks making this easy to grasp.
I'm glad that you were able to get value from it. Thanks
Dude with 1k subs schooling the whole of CZcams in 5 mins how to CZcams. Absolutely class! Brilliant video! Can not wait to see where you end up with these skills!
Literally more value in these 5 minutes then the rest of these other channels combined!! Keep ‘em coming🙏🏾
Thanks bro, it means a lot. could you edit your comment to take out the swears? i would just like to keep my comment section clean. thanks so much.
Thank you for editing the swears 🤗
If I could put it on a simple, quirky comparison is “making a late night movie review vs taping myself as a Netflix character”
Dude, this was actually such a sick video. I love how the actual video itself is the example, which is just genius, and how it shows the difference each change makes. Everything was really well laid out and simple. Banger video man, deserves way more than 14k views.
Wow, thanks for the feedback. It's nice to see someone telling me what specifically they liked about the video.
@@zacharysilva You're weclome man! Of course
I'm honestly surprised to see this only having 32 views, you did really well and I think a lot of it is helpful for people starting out :) Surprised myself how much of the grain you were able to get gone on such an old camera myself!

This is spot on kid, im tired of all the so called professionals that tell you what gear to buy, what lens to use, literally if you want to take filmmaking seriously learn the basics, theres award winning movies shot on iphone 6, learn how to use what you have and what you dont have use it as an advantage, learn how to proper color grade, dont just apply some randoms youtubers orange teal lut over you're crappy rec709 footage; not everything can be solved in post production so, make sure you get the look you want mostly in camera and then, only then, enhance it in post.
Keep on the good work
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Clean, straight to the point, and the technique of starting off with what you DON'T want and working your way up incrementally (displaying the changes each change at a time) is very engaging. Wonderful job.
1. Get a shotgun microphone for your camera, or see if you can borrow one.
2. Keep the background tidy and simple to avoid distractions.
3. If you're shooting indoors, try to bring in some natural light. You could turn on a lamp or use the light from a window.
4. Check and adjust the white balance-it's usually pretty easy to fix.
5. Set up a 3-point lighting system and try out Rembrandt lighting for a cinematic look.
6. Use a diffuser on your key light to soften it. There are lots of budget-friendly ways to do this.
7. Play around with the ISO and aperture settings to minimize grain in your shots.
8. Remember the rule of thumb: your shutter speed should be twice your frame rate.
9. Add some contrast between your subject and the background to help your viewer focus on the main subject.
10. When editing, use LUTs and tweak the lighting settings to perfect the look of your footage.
At first I thought it was gonna be a satirical video about how many movies are being lightened nowadays but in the end I found a very interesting tutorial about setting your lighting efficiently
Bro this is a really good tutorial. Very important lesson: It's not the equipment, its how you use set it up and how you are able to maximize it
Light cube in the middle of the video: *_“My time has come”_*

This randomly showed up in my recommended. 10/10 great job. It’s straight to the point, very informative and helpful, no ridiculous intros/monologues, and no waiting until the last 30 seconds to deliver on what was promised. I appreciate this video and your work.
Thank you
The strength in his video is trying to the point fast and providing value fast. Clear explanations too
I watched hours of CZcams to get the same amount of information you just gave in under 5min. Amazing job!!! Keep them short and informative because this is perfection👌🏻
Thank you. I'm glad you learned something.
I don’t have any plans to do video work with humans, but this is the best short tutorial I have ever seen.
Man, I love videos like this; concise and succinct. No loud over the top performance, no excess blathering full of unnecessary filler dialog, no taking all day to get to the point, no padding the video with stuff that doesn’t pertain to the subject matter just to get more ad space. Your video was all about business from the gate; nothing more, nothing less. The lessons contained were valuable, practical, and informative. Keep up the good work and you will get far with your channel, God willing. You’ve earned the like I’ve given this video. Salutes.

This is really good Zachary !
Come on...... this video isn't just a video, it's a master class without all the boring stuff.
My friend you've got a new subscriber right here!! 🎉😊
Okay so I was really not expecting your advice to be technical and actually helpful. My ex was a photographer and shutter speed and ISO has always been daunting to me. I always assumed I wasn't tech savvy enough to understand how it works. Great video, thank you kindly, friend!
Dude this helped me so much! Great job condensing this information into a 5 minute video!
I also prefer cinematic videos more over bright one , great tutorial bro.🤝
At last, a concise quality video that doesn't need 25 minutes of useless info to explain a relatively simple concept.. great job!
Okay so I do agree with what you are saying when you say "It's not the camera it's you" but I have used a $5000 before, and I can guarantee that if you have the money, buy it, I say that without hesitation. It is literally magic, and I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the results. I took a silly video of someone and it looked like a cinematic action movie. And that was a model which was made for photos, now imagine the video one.
Yeah, it's definitely worth the investment
@@zacharysilva But good lighting tips though. Even though I already knew everything, good tutorial anyways. You might wanna test the 3 point lighting set up, where you have a side light, back light, and a fill light.
@@hyperat8146 Yeah I just didn't really have room for a fill light in my room for this tutorial. Thanks

I think it was so amazing of yours to show what the video looks and sounds as you explain what you did.
Couldn't have a clearer example of how Important those lightning & recording settings are for the production, and the result just happens right before our eyes.
Congratulations!
That was amazing! Straight to the point
If you're into PC and PC building, it's basically the concept of bottlenecking. You try to minimize the visual bottlenecking by improving each component of what makes a frame look good and most of the time it's lighting instead of the camera. One should only upgrade if everything else doesn't work. Anyway, good video man :)
This is a great proof-of-concept! Wish more creators would realize that it's not about what you have, but what you do with it!
Wow! Love this tutorial man! To the point and so informative. Thank you!
