I love that line, "If I am destroyed...so shall you be!" Although, you would think that since KARR's main program is self preservation, he would've realized he was vulnerable and ran. Awesome episode anyways!
The reason is Kitt has a Molecular Bonded Shell KITT is armoured with Tri-Helical Plasteel 1000 MBS plating which protects him from almost all forms of conventional firearms and explosive devices. He could only be harmed by heavy artillery and rockets, and even then, the blast usually left most of his body intact and only damaged internal components. The shell protected every part of the car including the tires. KITT could even act as a shield for explosives by driving over bombs to cover them.
True.. But Peter Cullen, the voice of Optimus Prime did the voice of KARR only in the first season where KARR appeared the first time and later on in the 2008 Knight Rider series. But in this video above which is an episode from the third season, KARR was voiced by Paul Frees and not Peter Cullen.

The last KR-episode name war "tulivuoren juurella=staight by vulcano" and that seen daylight 1989, in finland. I dont remember, what that epidode name was in english? Secont last was "vihreää kultaa=green gold", and third one was "pahan pauloissa=that earing case, where michael become hypnotice by that earing".

I like how KARR's voice algorithm incorporates a gruff old man's tone and a sort of slight reverb to emphasise his evilness. I mean, when the Knight Foundation engineers came up with that, didn't they listen to it and think "hold on, this one might turn out to be a bad apple. Back to the drawing board".
Watching it now is highly amusing. The fact there's tyre screeching when they're driving on dirt and karr a supposedly intelligent machine with crap aim. But back then when i was a young teen it didn't matter it was all about the car.....and mr knight of course.
My theory is that KARR's Molecular Bonded Shell was weakened from being in the Ocean for two years. That added to the Laser damage would be enough to destroy KARR.
you are part right however,,,, peter cullen did voice karr in the episode called Trust Doesn't Rust. the first time they introduced karr however this episode called kitt vs karr was accually voice by Paul Frees but Peter Cullen is coming back and voicing the new karr in the new knight rider

1..Dude, it's obvious that KITT does not care being overriden, as he isn't trying to self preserve. Remember that the test driver before Michael was killed because of undisclosed reasons. Maybe KARR was one of those. 2. You really need to go back and watch the pilot episode.
KARR was damaged by this first encounter with KITT. Butt when the made contact in the air by turbo boost I mist the fact that KITT would have at least some damage.
It would have been cooler if KARR had fewer features and was missing details (fewer lights on its scanner) since it was a prototype. Imagine what it would have looked like if it was decommissioned in 1979 and carried on that look up to its destruction in 84.
Maybe KARR wouldn't let them? Now, there's another related question. In the pilot, Wilton, Michael and Devon say that the Kight 2000 was built on Michael Long's car. But which one was the one built on his car... KITT? or KARR? Because if it was KARR, then KITT does not belong to Michael in any way, shape or form like he believes.

Tyre screeching on dirt and sand is common in movies. Always makes me laugh.
Karr makes illogical decisions, but speaking of the screeching noise in dirt, it is acutally possible if the surface is hard enough.
I dunno about crap aim. KARR hit KITT fair and square with the laser a couple of times.
