Everyone is saying the Switch is bad because the games run at 30 fps. This is only for recent games. Super Mario Odyssey in 2017 was 60 fps. I personally think Nintendo has started lowering frame rates and resolutions to gaslight everyone into thinking the Switch is weak. This will drive up sales for the next console. Nintendo has become more corporate over the Switch generation.
I don’t think that’s the case at all. I think Nintendo is lower in the frame rates because of the graphics engines that they have been using in recent games. I’m pretty sure that another code recollection was 60 FPS.

I've read in previews that Nintendo have adjusted the input window for the time based attacks which should offset any lost "precision" from the frame rate being halved.
"Controversy creates cash" The problem is when the controversy is synthetically created, and not a true reflection of consumer feedback, there lies the true controversy.
I agree that the frame rate is a big deal. That's why I was so disappointed that the Switch OLED wasn't the "Pro" with DLSS. I couldn't care less about better graphics - I was hoping that adding DLSS to the existing Switch chipset would give us better frame rates! Also, props to the GameCube for running at 60fps. Pretty incredible!
If moving around and the gameplay feels as smooth as it did before, it's a non-issue in my opinion. I'm replaying the original upscaled on retroarch right now and it's great, I'm sure I'll have just as much fun with the remake.
While I personally don't care that it's 30fps if the original was 60fps the remaster should be at least 60fps especially if it's selling for new game price it should be in every way better then the original
I appreciate you bringing attention to this and making the comparison to Metroid Prime. I think it's a sad thing that I was expecting this to be at 30 fps cause Nintendo doesn't seem to prioritize that anymore. Frame rates matter to me but I know I won't get that with a Nintendo.
You know I sometimes wonder how ppl live complaining all the time. I was happy with 16 pixels back in the day. Im a granpa at this point. Just enjoying the games life is short
This is why I’m going back to play older games through emulation, I barely play recent releases because of all these controversies. 30fps for a GameCube title on Switch that ran at 60fps on the GameCube is insane.
But is it necessary to have 60 for this game? If someone likes 60 frames per second that’s fine but having it just to have it, That’s insane. They probably didn’t do it because it wasn’t necessary. It wasn’t necessary on the GC either but for bragging rights on which system performed the best.
I mean we also don't need an upgraded switch capable of putting out more horsepower and playing games more smoothly, but it sure would be nice to have. Yes the new paper mario looks gorgeous and personally it isn't too big of a deal, but if the GC version could run at 60 then the switch should also be able to match that at least. I mean, metroid prime remastered im fairly certain pushed 60fps and being real, it looks significantly more technically impressive. @@paulaclark2101
I'm thinking it's possibly a stylistic choice as they've only gone more into the whole paper esc almost stop motion style with the modern games, and they maybe want it to look similar to those. That being said, I have no memory if the last three games ran at 30 or 60.
As long as it's stable, I'm good. Looking at the footage it seems just fine to me. And I've been playing almost everything exclusively at 60fps on my Series X for the past few months.
Shadow of the Colossus ran like an asthmatic 90yr old on PS2, but the remaster ran (and looks gorgeous) fantastic on PS4. Sometimes frame rate matters, sometimes it doesn’t.
It looks like the AA is sublime so the game could be using textures scaled for 4k, maybe to future proof the game for the next console. Despite the perhaps smaller scenes I can't think of many placing to put LODs where they wouldn't be noticeable, meaning every character in the crowd durring fights is at full presumably "4k" fidelity. They may be just 2d plains but there are reflections too. The switch just can't handle Nintendo's own standards now...
You know the real controversy with this game is them removing/rewriting an entire scene involving the Goombella character in the game. Who cares if the game runs at 30? It's still playable.
So they removed the cat-calling scene? So what? Why do people act like it ruins the game? It's still TTYD!!!!!! And its the most beautiful it's ever looked!!!!!!! This remake is most definitely going to be a treat to playthrough, and they even gave the option for a better fast travel and classic music if you enjoy that more. I swear to God so,e fans who only worshipped TTYD in the past are so close-minded and annoying.... but now they're starting drama and refusing to buy this just because they changed the cat-calling scene and it runs at a lower frame rate despite it still running well... just needing to move slower to capture the action?!!! I swear these types of "fans" are nothing more than picky toddlers who have a need for attention and feel like their opinion is th3 only one that counts. They think just because they are up some bs reasons that it ruins the game for everyone. This is why I despise the paper mario Fandom... (save for Super because that Fandom is mostly wholesome/not as entitled and has a lot of appreciation for the villains and the story) I can understand preferring the first three, or the first two games over the rest.... but just because you hate it doesn't mean you have to call it "drama" or "controversy". Sure the difference between 30 and 60 FPS is noticeable. However, that's not a real controversy and figured I would point that out. Making anything for "modern audiences" is a form of censorship. It's basically developers and/ or localizers saying that you as an adult cannot handle the content contained within the game. When in fact, they are the ones that cannot handle it and have made pre-determined decisions that because they cannot handle it. No one else can. Not only that, a lot of times it changes the context of what is going on. It really benefits no one when it happens. Also, what's the point of the rating system if they're just going to remove stuff? It serves no real purpose if developers remove everything deemed "controversial". If anyone is acting like a spastic toddler it's you.

I would have to wait to try out the switch version. I still have my game cube and both Tales of Symphonia and Paper Mario, so I'm not in a hurry to get the remasters.
While in general, you're right: they did do more than just upgraded textures though. I can see environment changes too: a lot of "paper" and "cardboard" details were added to them and not just in the textures. Seems the environment models were updated too in that way to give these details more depth. The models and lighting also generally looks more detailed. So to me it looks like there was a big graphics overhaul here and this kinda explains why they didnt reach an equally high framerate. Seems like they decided the graphical improvements were more important than keeping the same fps.
Listen… all I want is Super Paper Mario remastered on the switch… that’s all I want. I’ve been waiting 5 years and I’ll continue to wait 5 years longer until my dream comes true😅
TTYD on the Gamecube is my favorite RPG, but I know I've been increasingly more sensitive to the difference between 30fps and 60fps. For me it's the straw that broke the camel's back, so I won't be buying.
Unfortunately that's the difference with popularity between Metroid & Mario. Nintendo probably felt Prime Remastered wouldn't sell at full price, even though it's pretty damn close to being a remake. While they know people will buy up a Mario port at full price all day long.
Id expect it to at least match the GCN version. The timing for actions commands especially the trickier Super Gaurd that i could never really get just right will be more of an annoyance.
They didn't reduce the framerate. This is not a remaster, it's a remake, so they just didn't prioritize having a higher framerate at the cost of losing visual fidelity during development. It's a valid choice.
I don't think they're treating it as a remaster, more like a remake. Normally when nintendo does remasters, they always change the title in some way (Metroid Prime Remastered, Luigi's mansion 2 HD, Skyward Sword HD) while with remakes they keep the same title (Link's Awakening, Super mario RPG, TTYD). So this is clearly a remake with revamped graphics when you compare it to the original which would explain the reduced framerate. I think it still sucks as it should be 60 but still important to note that it's a remake
Just look at the game…. It really doesn’t look that different. It’s arguable that Metroid prime remastered is more of a remake when compared to its original release than this game.
@@jameswalterthethird If you take a real good look at the game with the comparison videos, you'll realize that everything from character designs, environments, visuals, and textures have been redrawn, remodeled, etc. Whereas Metroid Prime Remastered, you can tell that despite the big graphical upgrade, it's still using the original game's coding. This game isn't, it's more comparable to SMRPG remake. Nintendo themselves said through one of their surveys that this was remake.
@@kevinsmith163 from a consumer standpoint point this games doesn’t look like a remake… I’ve seen the comparison videos and there aren’t that many difference between them. @@jameswalterthethird There is a such thing as a faithful 1:1 remake, my guy. That's why I made that comparison to SMRPG remake. They both don't have much drastic differences compared to their originals yet they are classifiedas remakes from Nintendo. When you think about it, Link's Awakening and Mario VS Donkey Kong fits this bill as well. Also, where are you getting that most people mistake TTYD as a remaster? Some still are, but most are aware that it's a remake. Edit: Forgot to mention that Nintendo don't have subtitles for their remakes unless it's a Pokemon game or said Nintendo project is outsourced to a dev outside of their operations. Remasters/most ports have subtitles attached to them.
@@jameswalterthethird - I'm with you. Metroid Prime was a technically more impressive game than Paper Mario on GameCube yet it's re-release only costs $40 and runs at 60 FPS. Now we have the technically less impressive Paper Mario re-releasing at $20 more than Metroid Prime and has it's frame rate cut in half and people will eat it up. When Nintendo sold cardboard with mini-games to it's audience for ridiculous amounts of money I knew they could get away with anything and they do.
60 frames per second comes with tradeoffs. 30 frames per second means better graphics, 60 frames per second means worse. Yes Metroid Prime Remastered looks great, but it would have the capacity to look BETTER if it were 30 frames per second.
I feel similar to you about whether I'll actually buy TTYD. Don't get me wrong; I like Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. I mean, I'm much more of a 64 fan, but TTYD is a good sequel. But for some reason, I don't feel like I'm in a rush to double dip on the Switch remake. There are a few factors to it. One is that I simply can't afford it at the moment. Another is that I just got Super Mario Bros. Wonder within the past few weeks; it's a fun time. Another, perhaps the biggest reason, is that I'm making it a point to enjoy the current lineup of Mario games in my collection. It's nice to have the latest stuff, but I find it equally as fun to look back on my library of Super Mario games and remind myself of why I fell in love with this series in the first place. Moreover, I'm learning to not be on Twitter all that much. No, I'm not leaving the site, but prolonged exposure to it leads to unwanted drama and headaches. No thanks! Between watching my dad and babysitting my nephews, I have more than enough real-life excitement going on. Not a bad video, RGT 85.
Paper Mario games are never first party Nintendo games, they're made by Intelligent Systems, the second party company behind Fire Emblem and Wario Ware
The public at large decides what providers of goods and services produce. With that, the market decides how well quality stands-up to consumer need. In other words, the general Switch customer base doesn’t care about frame rate, doesn’t care about paying full price for a remaster, doesn’t care about first time quality - it’s been proven time and again. Until consumer behavior changes, companies will continue to do as little as possible to save cost and satisfy current consumer demand.

Metroid Prime Remastered. The remake of Super mario RPG was called Super mario RPG, the remake of Link's awakening? Link's Awakening. Paper Mario the thousand year door got no remastered in it's title. Hence it's a remake
It's 30 because it couldn't handle 60 in handheld mode... clearly. Every good has a bad... The textures are higher... it takes more power ... which Switch doesn't have... Nintendo has become more corporate over the Switch generation.
they just dont care. thats all.
I don’t think that’s the case at all. I think Nintendo is lower in the frame rates because of the graphics engines that they have been using in recent games. I’m pretty sure that another code recollection was 60 FPS.
Super Mario Bros Wonder was 60 FPS though
A few recent games are 60 fps to decrease suspicion.
Same thing happened to my tales of symphonia. I was so mad they made it 30 fps it MAKES NO SENSE.
I don’t really care about all the controversy that people have with this remake. I just want to enjoy TTYD for it being my first time playing TTYD, I won’t even be thinking about the whole fps thing.
Same here.

Same here these so-called controversies are only controversies for CZcamsrs and entitled gamers. It’s not a controversy for both of us playing it for the first time like myself.

I mean I understand why it’s using the same engine as origami king which also ran at 30
That's also a newer larger game and not a 20 year old one.
@@zachtwilightwindwaker596idk about larger there’s not a great way to measure that also yes it’s a 20 year old game but it’s clearly not just a port or emulated it’s a full on remaster using the current paper Mario engine
@@brandonscott3423larger is definitely a way to measure it lol. A larger game (more shadows, more reflections, more detail) requires more power to run so lower frames are understandable. This 20 year old version should be 60fps
@@zachtwilightwindwaker596pure cope here, there's no reason why a game like this isn't 60fps. They keep doing this and I have to say it's inferior. Lower.
@@kennypowers1945yeah but I’m saying I don’t know which game is actually larger
I just wanna point out. It looks like Luigi's Mansion 2 HD is also going to be capped at 30 FPS. That game had a 60 FPS cap on 3DS, though it struggled and rarely actually hit that cap.
This is kind of crazy the best version is probably going to be the GC emulated as it can be up scaled and run on anything, then the switch emulated as you can get a 60fps patch then native switch hardware.
Framerate doesn't bother me. It's still thousand year door like I remember it but better
When paper mario: ttyd first came out, no body even knew FPS was a thing to care about. People just wanna complain cause they got nothing else going on in their lives currently
I missed it on the gamecude version so this is gonna be the first time me playing the game but since the switch 2 to coming out, I might wait until all these switch games come to a lower prize
IT’S. A. REMAKE.
Yet its worst in a major area of performance lol
if it runs at 30fps its a demake.

If it runs as good as it does in the preview trailer I’ll be happy
I don’t understand why people don’t understand video game companies cut corners with their remakes and remasters. They know their casual fans won’t care about the fps and they going to give the company their money so they win anyways
I've read in previews that Nintendo have adjusted the input window for the time based attacks which should offset any lost "precision" from the frame rate being halved.
"Controversy creates cash"
The problem is when the controversy is synthetically created, and not a true reflection of consumer feedback, there lies the true controversy.
3:20 it starts 🎉
Thank you
If moving around and the gameplay feels as smooth as it did before, it's a non-issue in my opinion.
Oh, thought this was going to be a video about Vivian. Guess that's next week.
I’m so glad they didn’t just throw it on a GameCube emulator on the Switch, and we actually got a whole remake
Nintendo's intention to lock frame-rate on Switch, so they can sell the same game on Switch 2 upscaled at 60fps?
Good to have the Nintendo CZcamsr bringing us a Saturday Nintendo video
I love the endless ocean games
You know I sometimes wonder how ppl live complaining all the time. I was happy with 16 pixels back in the day. Im a granpa at this point. Just enjoying the games life is short
This is why I’m going back to play older games through emulation, I barely play recent releases because of all these controversies.
30fps for a GameCube title on Switch that ran at 60fps on the GameCube is insane.
A 30fps title with completely remade visuals from the ground up on a new engine.
Wow,..ur so cool
@@paulaclark2101my take is that the game expects perfect frame timing during battles and the fps helped that
I'm thinking it's possibly a stylistic choice as they've only gone more into the whole paper esc almost stop motion style with the modern games, and they maybe want it to look similar to those. That being said, I have no memory if the last three games ran at 30 or 60.
At the very least Paper Mario TTYD has joined another Nintendo switch title that gets manufactured controversy before launch lol.
As long as it's stable, I'm good. Looking at the footage it seems just fine to me. And I've been playing almost everything exclusively at 60fps on my Series X for the past few months.
Shadow of the Colossus ran like an asthmatic 90yr old on PS2,
but the remaster ran (and looks gorgeous) fantastic on PS4.
You could be on to something here
Another win for yuzu
I really thought rgt was gonna talk about Vivian’s situation. It’s always fun grabbing my popcorn when people go to war online over frame rates
Ugh I'm just so annoyed with people like this and i just want to play the remake aleready
@@thegreenthunder2 I never said I was a fan. I never said I hated the game. I wasn't even planning to buy the game. I might have if I was really bored and had nothing else to play. With them changing things, I have zero interest now. I'm also pointing out the real controversy. 30 FPS is still playable. Everyone acts like it isn't when it is.
@@sjue316imo its not censorship. Dupree still hits on goombella so its not an "modern audience" issue. They probably rewrote it because they thought it might be more fitting, which is the case for the other rewrites
@@BernardIsBestboy it is and you’re a dumbass for thinking otherwise. Why rewrite it at all? Because they don’t think that you as an adult can handle it.
Exactly thanky really why is that even a problem at @thegreenthunder2
They aren’t treating this like a remaster. They’re referring to it as a remake.
It should push that original edition down in price a bit like when Metroid prime got remastered. May be the right time to pick up the OG.
the title is clever asf ngl
In regards to the "If it was made in a new engine? Do we know for certain if this is the original game's engine or note? I actually don't know the answer.
Framerate is not the problem, is its consistency.we have been watching movies at 24 fps and our eyes adjusted. If the framerate is constantly jumping from one number to another, that is where the problem started.
I would have to wait to try out the switch version. I still have my game cube and both Tales of Symphonia and Paper Mario, so I'm not in a hurry to get the remasters.
Unpopular opinion, but the GameCube version seems more fun and authentic
You’re right it’s an unpopular opinion.
Truly, I haven’t experienced this game in the first place, so I’ll be experiencing it someday after it releases.
What is endless ocean? Looks interesting.
I have to agree. People are getting lazy and still expecting premium price ha I think not
How ridiculous. I am still really looking forward to it.
RGT85 : Not Drama Just Fun
Unfortunately that's the difference with popularity between Metroid & Mario. Nintendo probably felt Prime Remastered wouldn't sell at full price, even though it's pretty damn close to being a remake. While they know people will buy up a Mario port at full price all day long.
I would argue prime remaster is more of a remake than this game lol
Metroid Prime also runs at 60 fps on switch and yet this game can't? 🤔
Id expect it to at least match the GCN version. The timing for actions commands especially the trickier Super Gaurd that i could never really get just right will be more of an annoyance.
I'm willing to believe that they reduced the framerate so that it will be in line with the other "new" Paper Mario games.
That...males no sense
They didn't reduce the framerate. This is not a remaster, it's a remake, so they just didn't prioritize having a higher framerate at the cost of losing visual fidelity during development. It's a valid choice.
*People that like Drama have no lives* 😑
I don't think they're treating it as a remaster, more like a remake. Normally when nintendo does remasters, they always change the title in some way (Metroid Prime Remastered, Luigi's mansion 2 HD, Skyward Sword HD) while with remakes they keep the same title (Link's Awakening, Super mario RPG, TTYD). So this is clearly a remake with revamped graphics when you compare it to the original which would explain the reduced framerate. I think it still sucks as it should be 60 but still important to note that it's a remake
Everyone has a voice now and can say whatever they want to
Thats why i deleted all of my social media. I hate it so much.
It's actually a remake RGT 85. Where are you getting that it says remaster?
It’s just arguably not a remake to a lot of people, epically when performance is worse than the original. Just seems low effort.
It's a remake cause they have added animations that were not in the original which they have only moved around with still expressions.
Is it a remaster or a remake?

If the original ran at 60fps and this one runs at 30fps it's a demake.
Suboptimal frame rates? Let's first see if it's suboptimal, we don't know anything

I’m looking forward to the game and personally, if the frame rate is smooth and consistent without big, noticeable drops, then 30 fps is good.
30FPS isn't smooth.
@@iDarthDub the game is looking solid by the trailers, but we’ll find out for ourselves soon enough.
Until consumer behavior changes, companies will continue to do as little as possible to save cost and satisfy current consumer demand.

it's really not a big deal, the switch has been playing the games at 30 fps till this very point.
The switch's framerate is locked at 30 fps.
also nintendo has confirmed it to be a remake, there's been a poll that officially called it a remake
Also nintendo called the remaster of metroid prime... Metroid Prime Remastered.
The remake of Super mario RPG was called Super mario RPG, the remake of Link's awakening? Link's Awakening.
Paper Mario the thousand year door got no remastered in it's title. Hence it's a remake
To be honest, ive only taken notice of frame rate when its super sluggish, as long as a game runs fine I genuinely can't tell if its 30 fps or 60 fps.
It's 30 because it couldn't handle 60 in handheld mode... clearly. Every good has a bad... The textures are higher... it takes more power ... which Switch doesn't have... This is what happens to all consoles, everything becomes bigger and harder for these systems to run smooth. next comes 8k, and the next consoles will struggle once again.
