I love that Super Paper Mario is seen as a spin-off or something aside from the issue.
It’s the middle child
@@paulgilbert5278quite literally, unfortunately…
But, that makes them the balance of us all!!!
Yeah, it’s like a spin-off to a spin-off series.
Spin-offception
Well it is completely aside from the issue. The only things SPM doesn’t have from the originals are turn based combat and the 2 and a half D level design. It has all the original characters, locations, items, and a great (the best) story just like the originals
I haven’t played SPM, so I have zero opinion of the story, but CS has my vote for best in the series.
I know a lot of people will have their own opinions on why my opinion is terrible, so let’s just skip that part.
Of course there is. I grew up with the modern paper Mario games and I’m more than excited to finally be able to play a remake of TTYD. People can’t just be happy for others.
Fax here. I've grown up with both, it's embarrassing how many grown adults can't just agree to disagree haha.
Yeah!
@@rpgranked - Yup
i too am a modern fan, but with all the info about ttyd, i'm glad to say that i'm a fan of classic and modern
I grew up with Sticker Star and I HATED it. Turned me away from Paper Mario….Until I played the N64 version on the Switch. I loved it and now I’m excited for the TTYD remake!
I grew up with sticker star and I loved it atleast for me the music was memorable and the story was good I do admit that the stickers were a bit frustrating but i definitely did not see the ending coming. sticker star was good for me and that's why I probably love ttyd more but origami king felt short and the there was no balance between a challenge and a chore.
You are in for such a treat!
My Man 😎🤜🤛😎
Super paper Mario is my personal favorite. Truly a masterpiece
Story Wise It us written superb!
Mine too!
Mine too! It is one of my favorites besides TTYD, Color Splash, Origami King, and Sticker Star. Especially the first-ever Paper Mario game!
It is my favourite Paper Mario Game. If 64 was remade with all the Improvements TTYD made added in to the Badge and Battle System as well as Level Cap then I would prefer it over TTYD.
You know little to my I did not like Super paper Mario? For his inconsistent progression, especially being a platformer.
Super paper Mario is the 3rd game in a trilogy, I refuse to consider it anything else, it’s actually set in the same world as the first 2 and Mario and Luigi have the same house still
I think the better word to describe older fans of TTYD reacting to more modern Paper Mario is “disappointment”. I’m one of them. It’s just really hard to hold a candle to TTYD. New Paper Mario is incredibly experimental, so that’s obviously not going to gel with a lot of people who already know exactly what they want to play. It really doesn’t help that games since Sticker Star were explicitly barred from having the same creative room as TTYD.
As much as i like sticker star i have to agree
Take into account one thing, because you do not like a game does not mean that it is bad, Sticker is among the worst "Paper mario" but it is not a bad game.
@@oesr350It is absolutely a bad game. With 0 nostalgia or expectations involved, it's still bland, with an awful and inconsistent consumables-based battle system, poor progression, nonsensical "puzzles," bosses that practically ignore the entire battle system in favor of "did you bring the right Things ahead of time with no hints??", poor (almost non-existent) dialogue, boring enemy design, homogenous NPC designs, lacking story, etc etc. You can go in completely blind, with no expectations of what a Paper Mario game or even just a Mario game should be, but Sticker Star will still be a complete failure in all aspects.
The later games in the new trilogy refined this style and earned the status of "different, but good," sure, but Sticker Star is an objectively bad, indefensible trash fire.
@@BaronSterling For me the one that is indefensible would be Super Paper Mario and that's why I catalog it as the worst of the Star sticker saga has certain qualities (few but it has them).
Tell me because TTYD is the best in the series, I played it and I didn't think it's a big deal.
The first 3 games are my personal favorites especially the thousand year door but if you’re a fan of the newer games I respect it. I’m not blinded by nostalgia I genuinely think the first 3 are way better so I’m hyped that the thousand year door is getting a remake in 2024.
The first time I played Paper Mario was when I went to my friend's house and played a little bit of Super Paper Mario. I never owned the game myself, but I did get Sticker Star when it came out and I remember being fascinated by it and watching the trailer over and over. I spent a lot of my time on that game, and it didn't take long before I had to follow a guide in order to make any progress because it was impossible for me to understand what I was supposed to do. I also remember never being able to beat the final boss because even when I was pretty sure I had all the right stickers I couldn't ever beat Bowser's final form. My experience with that game left a pretty sour taste in my mouth and when they announced the newer games I never had any interest in them. I remember joking about getting Origami King because it came out on my birthday but I didn't actually get it. I was never really able to play the older Paper Mario games, but I remember watching CZcams videos about them and seeing stuff like Mr. L as alternate costumes in Project M, and I'd say that those CZcams videos of the older games is where my fascination with the series derives from. I'm very happy that TTYD is being remade because I've only ever heard good things about it and now I'll be able to experience it for the first time.
Grab the original Paper Mario and play that first before you get into the remake. TTYD improves upon basically every aspect of the original so you'll feel spoiled if eventually you go back and play the original after playing TTYD first.
I really like what arlo said, the new ones have a heavy emphasis on the paper element. Like, the characters in the new one acknowledge that they live in a paper world, but in the old games, it’s more about the story
Super Paper Mario is my favorite Paper Mario game!!! Since I'm personally not much of a fan of regular RPG's. Not to mention it had amazingly detailed characters, with great music and an AMAZING story.
SPM's story Hit Different! That ending... I'm so happy for them but so sad at the same time! omg.......
@@starless4146But they survived? I don't know I interpretate the final.
@@vashtanerada2731 No..they did not survive. They both died.... but they were together in the end.

Bro WTFrick this video is the best description of the Paper Mario War I’ve ever seen 😭😭😭
(I LOVE ALL OF 64, TTYD, SPM, AND TOK, AND WANT TO PLAY SS AND CS)
Thank you for such a lovely message. I am really looking forward for TTYD and for what is to come.
13:20 finally someone acknowledges the banger of a soundrack Color Splash has
To me, the newer paper marios are like cake without icing. Not bad, but really missing something that would make them great.
Not sure why they don’t allow costume for paper Mario origami king, for the next game, they should fix up the ring system(The problem I think is that it’s too long for an adventure game. However, I do think it will be great if it’s designed to be shorter) and allows character costume for paper Mario. I think maybe they should bring back the hammer scrap but cap it at about 5 upgrades or so per chapter.
Grow up with cake without icing, and you expect cake to taste great without needing anything else....but the icing exists.
I fucking hate icing
I consider the original, TTYD, and SPM to be like a master chef baking you an excellent huge multi-layer cake the first 3 times. Then Sticker Star is the same guy coming around next time and plopping this single layer monstrosity that is rock hard, has no frosting or other decoration, and expecting you to act like it's the previous 3 cakes. Then when we complain, the same guy gives Color Splash, the same exact cake as the last one but puts a strawberry (that you don't even like) on the cake and acts like that brings it up to the same level as the first 3 cakes. Then when we still complain, he Origami Kings it and puts 2 strawberries on the sixth cake and still expects that to bring the cake up to the level of the first 3 cakes.
I may have carried the metaphor a bit far there...
Bro solved paper mario
I think if they develop a SMRPG2, they should lump in TTYD's design philosophies. I think combining the best aspects of both of those games can produce something really good.
(Bonus points if characters like Geno and Vivian make return cameos. Imagine TTYD characters in 3D.)
The newer fans will see why the vast majority of die hard fans find the Thousand Year Door to be the best entry in the series, or at least see what great elements Sticker Star took away from the newer games.
* An amazing storyline
* Leveling up from random battles.
* Unique characters
* Partners to add variety
* A connected world
* The badge system is far superior to cards/stickers
Super took the last three away, but that game was a spin off, so I don't count it.
Edit: Origami King brought back a great storyline, a connected world, and the combat system itself was a suitable replacement for the traditional turn based RPG system in the first two games, but a leveling system would've made normal encounters not feel like a waste of time.
The only thing I hope is it won't end with them ending up being unreasonable too
@@prosylan6368 The only argument I see is Origami King being better, and even then only because of tastes most times. Color Splash was Sticker Star 2.0, but at least it had solid humor and an attempt at a good story.
I liked Origami King's combat system. Having to solve the rings to defeat the enemies was alot of fun. It made you think. You did have the lazy way of spending your coins to solve the puzzle for you, but I actually never did that. I attempted to solve the puzzle in the time I had, and sometimes those puzzles were tricky to solve. Many of the bosses used the Battle Rings in creative ways that made you think on how to succeed in the battles.
@@goldenyoshistar1I love this battle system too even more so than ttyd's
Super kinda had partners, they did help you on your adventure to get past certain obstacles, its just a shame from sticker star onwards we have no real partners.
I was 8, and bought my first Mario game with my own birthday money and it was paper Mario ttyd. Didn’t know at that time that I was about to play a game that would change me. I don’t hate other people for liking new paper Mario games, but it really felt like the paper Mario I knew and wanted more of was dead. I’m sorry for new fans, but I really hope the old style comes back and stays for at least a few games.
i'd like to think that super paper mario fans are just kinda there watching the chaos while having best of both worlds
My personal favorite in the series is the Origami King. Not only is it a gorgeous game, but the story is well written and the music is absolutely amazing. I'm also pretty hype for the TTYD remake!
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door getting a remake for the Switch is kind of bittersweet for me. I’m glad I can play this game on the Switch, and with revamped graphics, no less, but this game is also one of the only games I wanted to play on the GameCube.
Also, I JUST got Paper Mario: The Origami King. And even though I love it, I can’t imagine why I, or ANYONE, for that matter, should play it ever again when we can play The Thousand-Year Door on the Switch instead. I feel so stupid for buying The Origami King now.
@@Anonymous-xt3yxwhy would you feel stupid it’s easily the second best paper Mario game after ttyd and probably close to having the best story in a paper Mario game
@@Zilla17707Super is the second best

In my opinion I love all of them except for sticker star, the concept of sticker star isn’t bad but I don’t really like it. The story of super paper Mario was the best. Ttyd had the best gameplay and characters and the story was good, same with 64. Sticker star had the best humor in my opinion. And origami king map was cool.
I cant really say much since ive only played sticker star but i had a good experience

I love that SPM is getting it's own vid, and it got acknowledged here. I have only played that one, and I love it to pieces. I've seen a let's play of TTYD a long time ago, but haven't played it, and seeing how good folks like Arlo were heavily disappointed in Color Splash and Origami King, I just decided I didn't want to shell out the money for them if I wasn't sure I'd like them. I am a first two Paper Mario game enjoyer. I was a little disappointed when SPM changed from an RPG but it was still a great game. The games after that didnt look like they were worth playing. The first two games had an extremely in-depth story and great game mechanics and of course, badges and partners which made the game more replayable with openness to multiple strategies. The games after that jumbled all those things without having all at once. (Expect badges and partners of course)
I am hoping modern Paper Mario players will understand our frustration with the new games and give the TTYD remake a try. They will see why we have been so HEAVILY DISAPPOINTED with the later titles (Again, SPM was still good and the story was bomb, but still left much to be desired)
I don't imagine this will be the case because the modern paper Mario has a distinct gameplay in a very different way than the originals. If they enjoy current paper Mario they will probably have the same opinion as classic PM fans of "it just doesn't feel like a paper Mario game"
Super Paper Mario not having a battle system is not that bad and it just makes a bit more challenging
@@AquaNeptun3 SPM was an action RPG that harkened back to classic Mario Platforming. It was just as good as what the previous two games had and miles better than anything the next 3 games had.

Thanks man. Although I love the first 3 games the most and hated sticker star kinda liked color splash and enjoyed origami I think people should respect others opinions
I love every paper Mario they all made me happy and angry with some parts but it's great that it even exists still
I loved the first 2, sticker star was only one I couldn’t beat. Really what Origami King was missing was true partners, a leveling system, and unique characters. The battle system in theory was fine, and I’m okay with experimenting, but we need partners and a reason to battle.
Ever since I played TTYD as a teen, I was hooked with the series. (It was only my third game too.) Not only has it shaped my passion for philosophy and of course game design, it has also inspired me to research the franchise and actually make new experiences. With that, outside of Sticker Star, which isn’t even the worst thing ever like a lot of people say, and Super Paper Mario which has things on the complete opposite sides of the quality spectrum. (Probably why it’s as divisive as its franchise.) I continue to enjoy every game. And of course I do challenge runs of the games themselves. People really need to be more open-minded tbh…
i did grow up with the newer ones, but i would wanna see the paper mario games from the past.
0:27 this meme is so perfect and really says it all lmao
As someone who has only to this day played The Thousand Year Door, I was very excited to see Origami King release. It just meant we were getting more Paper Mario, in whatever form it would be. I never ended up playing it, but watching someone else go through the game online, it looked like a lot of fun.
I love that you use the spm “chapter opening” theme
Honestly Paper Mario The Origami King is one of the best games that i've played as it's a perfect pix of both the old and new aspects of the Paper Mario games.
I’ve never played any of the paper Mario games but I’m going to pick about TTYD when it comes out cause it looks cool
I can’t understand how anyone can defend Sticker Star. No story, lazy copy/paste characters, every attack is a limited resource, bosses REQUIRE you to use Things and you never really get hints about which one you need prior to the fights, stickers are required to make progress and again, it’s not always clear which stickers do what or where to use them (Thing Stickers seriously needed a description to tell you exactly what they do), and basic progression is literally HIDDEN FROM YOU. Jump into a specific sand pit that would usually kill you instantly to find a key to open a boss fight, hit a hidden block so you can reach and jump across a flower before it can hurt you. And if Things are so important to solving puzzles and fighting bosses, WHY do they take up so much space in the sticker album?! Just give them their own separate one!
Fans of that game have the nerve to call US nostalgia blind?! Does Thousand Year Door hide basic progression? Does every attack go away after one use? Do puzzles have to be solved with items that go away if you use them at the wrong time? Do bosses force you to use one specific attack to win?! Are normal enemies pointless to fight?!
I wish I could be neutral here, but the best I can do is say I think Origami King is a decent game. Sticker Star is just way, way too terrible for anyone with any knowledge of good game design to defend. Color Splash at least had a decent storyline and unique locations.
To clarify, I don’t mind if you like Color Splash or Origami King, I just hate it when people tell me or others that 64 and TTYD are overrated, or that we’re wrong to love them or that Nintendo was wrong to remake TTYD. If you don’t like TTYD, fine, but don’t try to ruin the excitement and joy of those who DO, and don’t try to force people to like the modern trilogy.
Don't forget: Fleeing is the most OP ability in every common enemy battle in Sticker Star, as the enemy will despawn right after you successfully escaped a battle (without dropping coins you have an abundance of anyway).
And Kersti calls you out for beating a boss without using the right "Thing".
You can blame the repetitive characters on Nintendo... they claimed that they didn't want any new characters based on existing ones
@@friendlyneighborhoodnoobyet Miyamoto himself found sticker star boring
@@friendlyneighborhoodnoob Intelligent Systems didn't even try to create completely new characters for SS and CS. The only ones were your sidekicks, that's all.
I'm so excited about the remake.
A big part of my childhood is finally coming back. And then in the most beautiful way. And yes, of course nostalgia also plays a role.
But even from a neutral point of view, this game is absolutely amazing.
Go for it. The game should appeal to every Paper Mario fan.
all the good qualities mentioned in this video about the new paper marios (the sets, the music, the humorous dialogue, etc.) are all separate from what makes the newer games crap. it's like watching the series improve in one direction but stale in the other. you can still have the good qualities of the newer games with the tried and true aspects of "old" paper mario (the battling, the characters, etc), which is what most die hard fans are advocating for and want.
It's not even a plus anyway because all of those good qualities that the new paper marios have... were for the most part in the old paper marios too. The graphics weren't quite as good but that's about it for the good things that the first 3 Paper Marios didn't have which the next 3 did have, and really it's not by much.
@@immortalfrieza exactly. to me, it wasn't a fair comparison seeing as the games aren't split in this way. what makes the newer games good are qualities that were technologically limited in the first series, and what those games did to beef up their value, like a good story, engaging characters, etc. were left to wane in the newer ones. i really hope nintendo considers delivering a paper mario 3 in the traditional sense, now that RPG games continue to boom since TTYD and the graphical power is there to support it.
I was about to give a great big THANK YOU for including SPM on the left side in the thumbnail... but then the video didn't really talk about it that way. SPM is 100% part of classic Paper Mario in my book. Even with different gameplay, its heart is consistent enough with the earlier games to feel like the final game in the classic trilogy (and yes I consider it a trilogy). It's the last game to have most recurring enemies original to the series, before it was sanitized to only mainline enemies.
The story and character debate is definitely the one I have the most stakes in, even though I think PM and TTYD have the best gameplay in the series, I would not mind the gameplay of later games, even Sticker Star, if the story and characters were approached the same way they were in the first three. All the way down to having a version of the Merlon clan, heavy organic lore, callbacks to earlier titles (as liberal as those in Fort Francis), and a plot that's about something organic like the Chaos Heart or the Star Spirits rather than something paper-related that distances Paper Mario's continuity from other Mario games as some kind of alternate dimension (like Paper Jam tries to gaslight us into thinking the series always was). Considering 99% of this was still fully intact in SPM, it'll always be a trilogy to me. Until we finally get a fourth game that picks up where SPM left off in terms of the old style of characters & story.
TOK is the only modern PM game I think is good, and it's mainly despite the restrictions (and the fact that they resisted them harder this time, but still not enough). But still, I feel like starting with Sticker Star, new games have at best been good in their own right, not because they felt like a Paper Mario game (to me you NEED the unrestricted characters and organic story to do that)
There's too many inconsistencies with older games to feel like the modern trilogy could fit into the same continuity as the classic one. If the classic one could continue I'd be much more receptive of the modern one continuing alongside it. But to me they're two different series.
i want the next paper mario to be origami king with ttyd aspects cause those are my two favorite paper mario games if not just some of my favorite games in general like have origami king with ttyd partners and it would be great

@@Videoguy612me too!!
I’m kind of in the same boat. I really liked Origami King and I’m really looking forward to TTYD!
As an OG paper mario fan, theres still alot to love with the series. While I dont like Sticker Star and wasnt crazy about SPM, Paper Mario 64 is my favorite game ever, TTYD is great, I loved Color Splash, and loved Origami King except for the combat.
Super Paper Mario is best. Don't argue with me. You know it's true.
My first Paper Mario game was Super Paper Mario and will always be my favourite of the 6 games. But I was never a big fan of RPGs as a kid, but this series (and the Mario & Luigi series) has made me like them more.
I only ever played Super Paper Mario for the Wii, I didn't have a GameCube or an N64, and the others were too expensive and probably are still too expensive now. But I've seen playthroughs/walkthroughs of the rest of the games, so I've seen them at least. I guess that I'm in the middle then, having only played the third game in the series.
I haven't played Color Splash or Origami King, so I can't say anything about how good or bad they are. The thing is while I have heard praise for Origami King, the gameplay itself with those ring battles does not appeal to me at all, and I'm very much not a fan of all the generic toad NPCs and paper jokes.
Sticker Star though, I got through the first three worlds before I dropped it and never looked back. I just don't see any redeeming qualities in that game.
I believe in voting with my wallet, so TTYD remake will be the first Paper Mario game I buy since Sticker Star. I'm obviously more in favor of one side of this "war" than the other, but attacking fans of the new games won't help anything and is just stupid.
The thing is, as someone who easily prefers the old games, I don't understand why anyone would attack someone for liking something. There's nothing wrong with being critical of what the game presents to us, whether you're talking about the old or new games, but let people enjoy what they like and allow them to criticize what they don't.
As someone who grew up with the new games, I don't understand how someone could possibly see this remake as a bad thing. How can you argue against more creativity, more interesting characters, and a battle system that... actually works? This isn't to say that I don't still love the new games, because I do, but after playing the original Paper Mario for the first time last year it's so easy to see why so many people prefer that style. It makes me wonder if TTYD fans are the ones who are blinded by nostalgia... Can't wait to experience the game for the first time when the remake comes out.
On behalf of all Americans, thank you for your service in the Paper Mario War!
I respect your opinion on the new paper mario games and I harbor no ill will towards anyone that enjoys them, but i just cant agree that Sticker Star and Color Splash are good or enjoyable. Though I agree that origami king is definitely the best of modern paper mario and the soundtrack is incredible.
I wish more people were like this hating the games are fine but at least be respectful to people who do enjoy them hating on them doesn't benefit them in any way
I think I’m one of the few people that love both Trilogy of paper Mario while I only play the last game of each Trilogy I do want to get and play the other games and from what I seen of them I like and can’t wait to play them to get a full opinion
The thing is that if you do not like a game do not try to ruin the fun to others, so are the fans of the first two Paper Mario especially TTYD.
I love this video and I love all paper Mario games, some ofc more than others for my different reasons alone, but let's face it. The war will never end cause as humans, some of us generally don't care and will still fight for the sake of fighting, even if it's literally just a video game series that doesn't even harm people like idk....real life problems do? Your video will no doubt open some people's eyes but in the end this war will never end. All I'm saying to anyone who reads this. If you find a "highly toxic fan" it's best to ignore them even if they support the same side you're on. It's ok to defend a game.....but threatening people, calling them names, dissing a game when you know the people who like them are there over and over? No. There's a line that makes you a loveable fan, or a hated fan.
That's the mario kart community in a nutshell
the first 3 PM games you can tell they put thought into each character, NPC or otherwise, they aren't just another toad with bland dialogue very few of the Recent PM characters really have any depth
Origami king looks like it could be my fav
I’m the most excited for Super Mario RPG, but I did love TTYD.
That chapter 5 speech was the best speech I have ever heard 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👍👍 I hope everyone can resolve this if you know what I mean😅 and I hope the Paper Mario series gets better and better with every installment❤❤
I don’t want peace, I want problems always
I honestly love all the paper Mario games
I think one of the major problems is that we have limited lifespans, its been about 20 years since ttyd released, and if a game company wants to completely change what a game is, they should name it something else, do they have to? No they can do what they want… but should they?.. yea, anything else is a slap in the face to their lifelong supporters. For instance they could have called the new “Zelda’s” links climbing adventure and it would sting less:P. ( or even.. The tedium of link)😂
i consider TTYD and SPM as the gem of the series top 1
64 coming to 2nd
TOK to 3rd
CS to 4th
and SS to 6th
I am a fan of TTYD but at the same time I am also a really big fan of the origami king
I really hope nintendo makes a super Mario warriors game where we can fight all of the old and new enemies and bosses in Mario’s past.
Mushroom kingdom warriors, you mean?
I have never played a classic paper Mario game, it's on my to-do list along with play ocarina of time for the first time, play Mario 64 for the first time, play the Sonic adventure games, play the entire FNaF franchise, finish Earthbound beginnings, play Metroid for the first time, play all 3 NES Mario games and Mario World... there's a lot of games I need to play
This man solved paper mario racism
I love all paper Mario old and new
When I collect all seven crystal stars in HD my life will be complete
Super paper mario is superb in every way. There. war over.
To be honest I'm on both side because i love both classic and modern paper mario. Except sticker star
I can definitely respect that opinion.
Yeeeeaaah, Sticker Star definitely suffered from an identity crisis. 😅
I’m convinced one side of this war didn’t exist who prefers the newer games?
✋️
(Although I learned to love the older games through Bug Fables)
As someone who loves Super paper mario and is just in the middle of all this battling I say, I don't care. i just want a new Super Paper Mario
New Super paper Mario *bros*
@@yassinashraf1235No. NO. *NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!*
@@Lost_Man_2023-YTKP sorry, I didn't notice the mistake , but what was your reply about the mistake or the game title I come up with?
@@yassinashraf1235 Nah, I just make the joke about the New Super Mario Bros series being bad. (Except the ds one, that’s my favorite.)
@@Lost_Man_2023-YTKP ok 😂😂😂😂😂
I absolutely hated Sticker Star. I played the game but could never beat the final boss because of the "things." You need a very specific set of "things" to beat the final boss and I hadn't memorized the location of them as I just saw them as gimmicky power attacks. I ended up trading the game for a Monster Hunter game which while being one of the worst in the series, was miles better than Sticker Star. You said a lot good things about Color Splash and Origami King in this video but you didn't have much good to say about Sticker Star. Is it wrong to have lost faith in the series after Sticker Star was such an abomination?
As someone who’s never properly played a Paper Mario game, It’s always seemed to me like the fan base is quite toxic at times, and extremely blinded by nostalgia. It’s as if no one is allowed to have their favourite be anything other than TTYD. Or at least that’s what it always looked like to me, from the outside looking in.
FOR REAL
What I find funny is that out of ALL 6 Paper Mario Games, the only one that can be said is NOT an RPG is Super. It is an Action-Platformer with some RPG elements. After All, ONLY RPGs have Turn-Based Combat.
That is false, Super Paper Mario is an action RPG. It has more RPG elements than the last 3 games, which feel like adventure games.
Turn-based combat ≠ RPG. RPGs are known for having some kind of progression system for you characters to get stronger. There are plenty of RPGs without standard turn based combat.
This IS False. Turn Based Combat = RPG.@@kumaranrvn5716
@@Gamer1288 en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Paper_Mario
Super Paper Mario is more of an RPG than the last 3 games. RPGs have evolved and have a variety of different combat systems. Super Paper Mario fits all the criteria. The game is an action RPG (or a platformer-RPG).
The ONLY RPG elements that Super Paper Mario has is the EXP System which only boosts either HP or Attack on Level Up and the way that the Story is segmented into Chapters like EVERY Paper Mario Game.@@kumaranrvn5716 Meanwhile the New Trilogy has Turn-Based Combat(which is what Most RPGs have) and The Story.
@@Gamer1288 A progression system is what makes an RPG. Name an RPG without a form of progression. Still, Super Paper Mario has party members, cooking system, bounties, charms, and side quests/gameplay enhancements. The main focus of the game is to attack enemies in order to grow stronger.
Only traditional RPGs have turn-based combat. If you add turn-based combat to Mario Odyssey or a Zelda game, would that make it an RPG?
How does the story make it an RPG? Sticker Star hardly has one. The NPCs just tell jokes and repeat the same lines for the whole game. Super Paper Mario has NPCs with their own backstories and new dialogue after every chapter.
Super Paper Mario is the perfect balance in my opinion
Strange because that's the most different game of the series when compared to the others.
To me, all Paper Mario games have their strengths and their setbacks but I've enjoyed them all for the most part. I will say I've never been a huge fan of the turn based matches, and the boss fight design in Origami King never clicked for me (maybe I just suck at it lol). The original characters and worlds and items were what made me love Paper Mario, and I will say that Super Paper Mario was always my favorite.
I am from this new generation so switch is the only Nintendo console I know I have heard so much about this game I can’t wait
Thankfully I can be biased at all because I started playing these games this year lmao
I’m biased to Super Paper Mario because that’s the only one I played and I seen other people play the other ones but I love that one
Super Paper Mario: the ultimate middle ground
Meanwhile old school fans are like “get this to S.S.D.S Leader Emilie”
i have been i big paper mario fan since i played mario
Each game had its own flair and excitement to it. I’d be okay with combining the best of the games. 64+TTYD individual characters, partners, turn base, Xp, storyline and real reason to battle was perfection. These games are part of my core and I love them. I’m fine with people liking the other games. I don’t judge or hate to em for it. I personally can’t love the games the same way. And I’m actually very passionate about it returning to its roots. I don’t think Nintendo has ever betrayed me more than when I opened Super Paper Mario with excitement and stars in my eyes. To find them taking out my turn base part of the game. It felt like they fell short of quota game building time and took the turn base out to meet the deadline… or a director that “never read the books” took over and said they know what’s best. Rip eragon, last air bender, and so many other great series due to ignorance. Thank you Nintendo for bringing back TTYD. And please bring Paper Mario back to its true form. Honestly could even go back to 64/TTYD locations to revisit them. Get old partners back. Jr Koopa kid and old bosses could return for vengeance. Id love that. Just no more spin wheels. Keep super Mario bros to their own 500 games you’ve made of them. And bring back my boy. Don’t massacre him again. My heart literally can’t take it.
Super Paper Mario was different because it was planned to release on the GameCube and Nintendo didn’t want two similar games on the same console. The game does most things better than the first two and I feel people should give it a fair chance.
I like ALL of them(yes, including sticker star)
How dare you?
does that include color splash?
@@BobbyAfework I was being sarcastic (Greta Thunberg quote, if you didn't know). I actually like every title too, but that's probably because I started out with SS and CS and then watched Let's Plays of TTYD and Super Paper Mario. I like every type of Paper Mario game (even the objectively bad ones).
@@Whimsykit yes, from 64 to Original King
