    Late to the party, but shocking grasp has a very good use in it's rider effect. The target can't take reactions. So, in the event something runs up and bases your wizard, you can shocking grasp them and run away without taking an attack of opportunity. Very useful.

    There is a quest in the game where you can get 5 level 3 spells and it appears you always get the same ones which include Fireball, Fly, Lightning bolt and Haste. I think the 5th one is revive or something. This could impact your selection here.

    I love the Light cantrip and take it on all my Wizards and Clerics. I think it is really strong surprisingly and a stand out above other cantrips. You can only have one Light active on each character so having multiple is not redundant. I put it on my armor so even if I switch weapons the Light stays. The reason why it is so strong is because undead have disadvantage against it and will also take some damage if near. Normally dodging while having Spiritual weapon and/or Spirit Guardians up is a good tactic for a Cleric, but with Light on you just get it as a passive bonus against undead.

    • @Methfu
      @Methfu  Před 3 lety +2

      Light is definitely one of the best if not the best cantrip in the game. More so if you're a race without dark vision. I normally play a full Elf party and my playstyle makes it so more then one light isn't needed, also having dancing lights for backup on far away ranged targets.
      I have picked up 2 lights in my current playthrough as a backup precaution Vs certain enemies but I have found that the extra light wasn't needed in my party composition I still have the same results as I did with just one light on my main tank. Each to their own though! 😊

    I had different experience with charm person. Once the spell landed, the charmed person was attacked by his own allies. He also attacked them. so not only you were taking him out of the combat against you, he also diverted attacks from the other enemies. I didn't noticed him attacking my party. One more thing, interestingly, while he is charmed, if you kill all other enemies, its a victory. you don't need to deal with him. In conclusion, based on my experience in the early game, this spell is awesome if it lands.

    'Shine' is like 10x better than light, especially against light sensitive enemies.
    First of all, you light up your target (undead and spectral enemies will take radiant damage every turn), making them light up, leaving you in the dark, aka you get an advantage on them,
    while they keep disadvantage against you as you're barely visible in the dark.
    'Sparkle' is also great.
    Most of the time you can light up ( out of stealth) by lighting all the torches before you even get into combat, remaining stealth and hidden,
    to get a light advantage while remaining in the dark ( and stealth) for surprise attacks, sneak attacks and advantage on your rolls.
    Combining those 2 cantrips can often win you a fight before it even properly starts.

    • @Methfu
      @Methfu  Před 2 lety

      I think the problem with shine is it just pales in comparison to it's older brother dancing lights.
      As you said it requires a will save to get it to work then on top of that they get a will save roll each turn to negate it and also takes up your action which you could spend doing damage.
      Compared to dancing lights which you can cast before combat so it doesn't take an action during combat or can cast it during combat and it's guaranteed to work, also can reposition it with the bonus action. Where as shine if for some reason it doesn't get negated is stuck to the enemy you have put it on. The Soraks and undeads have a nasty habit of running everywhere like a renegade hamster that has been let out of it's cage. 😂😂I prefer to have something reliable rather then relying on more RNG ( random number generator ) in combat.
      Thanks for the great comment though mate and for watching! ❤️

    Shine is actually very VERY good because it can be used on enemies at a distance, meaning certain foes that might NORMALLY get a bonus in the darkness suddenly doesn't. You might say, " but you can just walk up to them " and i'd say --- not always. There are lots of moments in the game where, light is less valuable then shine, and even though shine requires a save it will make alot of fights much easier by proxy.

    Btw, idk if it is intended or not, but the goodberry spell in this game is massively overpowered... Basically one cast of this gives You the option to equip 10 berries in your action slot. You can use your action to feed an ally, giving them 1 hp... Now this sounds kinda troll, except... if they are downed, giving them that 1 hp actually brings them up and they can even hit in the same turn!!! This combined with the not very smart AI, that likes to keep focus on the same target until it's dead... This means that, if I am in a very hard fight early game on hardest difficulty and everything is exhausted and it's my pal tank and greenmage behind him left standing, the boss kills the pal, I give berry the pal goes up and hits, the boss hits pal again, he might or might not go down. If he goes down, give him berry again... Eventually the boss will miss, then you attack with both of them... It's kinda hilarious actually... Also when you exhaust all your spells you can use the last one for hunter's mark and shooting with your bow... Shock arcanist on the other hand gives you the most important thing on cataclysm difficulty... burst damage... So it's really hard choice, but I lean towards greenmage personally :)

    It seems there's a new level 2 spell added called Shatter. It's an AOE thunder spell. What're your thoughts on this spell? Is it worth considering next to Flame Sphere and Knock?
    Also for the Magic Weapon spell, I'd imagine it's more useful for buffing your melee ally to give them that extra boost? Or is it still pretty weak with only a +1 to A and D?
    Love your content and your energy btw!

    • @Methfu
      @Methfu  Před 3 lety +3

      When I first saw it I was like "dayum a mini fireball!" Then I saw it had a constitution save for half damage.
      Strength and constitution are the universal highest saving throws for most enemies so naturally most the time it will be only doing half of 3d8. Then as you said it's up against flaming sphere, knock (which I suprisingly haven't had to use once during my new campaign lol) misty step, blur and also scorching ray which is probably the best spell in that tier and my go to for damage! 💪
      I think magic weapon isn't worth the concentration it requires, I'd much rather have flame sphere out for more damage or a blur on to mitigate it, if I know I'm going to be swarmed.
      There is a time around level 5 when you face two undead legendary bosses that are semi resistant to non magical weapons is the only time I thought it would come in handy but at that level you want to use your concentration to use haste on whatever melee or ranged attackers you have or slow to limit enemies attacks to 1 per round so even then it kinda loses out to better spells. 😔
      Great questions though mate hope this helped! Thanks so much for watching! ❤️

    Hope you have time to read/respond to this even if it's a little long:
    After all that I saw in your guides/read I will play Paladin Oath of Tirmir Half Elf Aristocrat, Cleric Battle Sylvan Elf Acolyte, Rogue Shadowcaster High Elf Spy, Wizard Shock Arcanist High Elf Sellsword. My problem is the following: I plan on playing this on the max difficulty, but now I got the idea of first playing on a lower difficulty to learn/understand the mechanics and if so I can play all the other classes/backgrounds.
    Here's the setup and problems with it: Fighter maybe spellblade since it's different but I don't know how exactly to play it, he will be tank and hopefully a damage dealer too, your ranger archer but i'll choose shadow tamer and from what I read undead, monstrosity(or something else if you know it's better), since i'll play battle cleric in my main campain, maybe i should play elemental fire or life ? But how will I play it ? How much will the somantic restriction contribuite to the playstyle |? And my last question: even if it's the first time that I'll play, I want a sorcerer for the charisma aspect and it being a mage/non wizard :) But since I have no prior knowledge of the game I don't know what spells to choose.
    So what are you thoughts on me playing a fun/learning team first then playing my main on for the hardest difficulty ?

    • @Methfu
      @Methfu  Před 3 lety +2

      Haha that's awesome, it looks like we will be playing exactly the same party at launch! I got my Rogue Shadowcaster guide releasing tomorrow at 12pm just incase you were interested.
      I'm personally not to keen on the Spellblade Fighter subclass, it just feels a tiny bit clunky and not optimal, unless there are some big buffs coming on release for it.
      I would take a Mountaineer instead for Fighter tank, since that subclass is actually pretty decent compared to the other 2 choices for Fighter.
      Shadow Tamer is a great subclass definitely on par with the hunter ranger, I would pick humanoid if that is an option at release if not undead, monstrosity is excellent choices.
      From what I've seen the Sorceror subclass will not be available straight away on launch but that might be subject to change, so would make sense to grab it for a second playthrough once you know which spells you like the most.
      I think this game definitely deserves 2 playthroughs espcially to see all the background quests! The hardest difficulty Cataclysm can be quite frustrating to begin with since it has some really nasty early game fights, after you get past them though it gets a lot more smooth sailing. If I were to do two playthroughs I would most likely play one difficulty below the hardest just so it isn't such a shock to the system on the second playthrough. Or just go all in with the double hardest difficulty playthroughs!
      Hope this helps mate! ❤️

      Law has crazy anti mage capabilities like a spellbreaker. I would grab Sylvan Elf 10/16/14/10/16/8 pick concentration feat at 4 or pump wis for spellcaster or melee pump dex.
      Life is great for being a tanky frontliner coupled with strong healing, can even make it your main tank if you took concentration feat at level 4.
      Half-Elf 16/10/14/8/16/10 pick concentration feat at 4 or str for melee. Will be mostly healing and buffing no wisdom hit needed for that.

      For the wizard nothing really changed combat wise they gained the grease spell at spell level 1 and shatter at spell level 2 so far.

    • @Methfu
      @Methfu  Před 3 lety

      That's your opinion buddy, opinions are not fact. 😂
      There was not a single time during my whole Cataclysm playthrough that I thought "I wish I had sparkle instead of dancing lights or Light" lol you pre cast the Light cantrip before you explore on your main melee character so it never takes an action.
      If you see where the enemies are, using cautious mode you can use firebolt to light up everything similar to sparkle, there is alot of times where you can't even use sparkle on anything.
      Where as dancing lights can be used wherever and can pre cast it before combat if you got a sense of it coming... On top of that you can reposition the effect using a bonus action. Would be great if you actually tried the cantrips out in a full playthrough before you started spreading random negativity. 😂😂
