  • I've developed a sixth sense for getting kicked on this mission. Helldivers 2 has been out for months and people refuse to take advice on retrieve essential personnel missions. I don't mind because they make for helpful video's.

LMAO I remember hosting a launch nuke mission on difficulty 4. Things went well, my squad broke off into 2s, and the other pair were struggling to stay alive. Once the missile was launched i asked if they wanted to grab the extra objectives and samples. They said okay, we went down to 4 stocks and the 4th member died while 2nd and myself were in the middle of a breach fight. The 3rd refused to call in the dead member and to top it off they both left the samples across map... then my 2nd started the timer by walking into the pelican. I just shut down my computer, i needed a break. It felt good to feel grass and pet the neighborhood cats.

This is why I mostly just host my own missions and never kick. If no one joins I’m fine to play solo, but if someone does, great. The final section of the mission was a pair of us sneaking up on the Factory Strider at extract, then unloading autocannons into the belly before it could react 😆

The fact that most people don't know that sitting on the base is why it's such an impossible task to begin with is largely because the other mission types teach players to get on the point and get it done, and in general, they reward that kind of play as well.

Joined a level 9 match a couple days ago and a guy killed me twice IMMEDIATELY with cluster bombs. Back to back. Less than 60 seconds into the level. Cluster bombs in an area where they weren't needed. Cluster bombs where he didn't announce his intention before using them. Where I was already standing before he threw the cluster on top of me. They don't close bug holes. They don't do damage to heavies. They're practically useless when thrown in a bug lair that only has a charger and me in it. i find bots to be easier when you have things "under control" but bugs are WAY easier to recover from.
bots start to chase your respawn down in armour you can't respond to without grenades or your support weapon while throwing nonsense at you in swarms of o-zone and con-trails, were as most bugs can be dealt with out of the box with only a need for the big-guns for the 2-3 targets that announce themselves and let you KNOW they are coming for you in particular.
So once a bot-mission starts to get over-ran most people spiral into chain-deaths and isiotic reinfrocement placement (the beacons not the actual auto-aim flinging you directly onto the opposite side of the pack that just merced you (now w/o your weapons/packs), whereas a bug swarm is at it's worse just after it spawns in but any method of thinning that herd can allow you to retreat, recover, bait the enemy away form where you died then swoop back in for some payback (unless a hunter leap-crits into a rag-doll head-mets-rock or a spitter decides to aim-ahead and melt you in flamethrower TTKs (even after the nerf they still hurt like hell)

Funniest trick we have for these missions is for everyone to bring one 'Panic Button' strategem (380mm, Laser etc.) and if the objective gets overrun those on it toss those into it then run off away from the objective in the opposite direction from the pair out making noise. Clears it out, and gives a chance for the pair out on the map to reacquire aggro while they break contact and go stealthy for a bit

Not all players are going to be constantly online and watching videos or scrolling through reddit. It's the game's fault for not explaining how patrols and drops work. I'm not saying it's okay to kick people under these circumstances but can't get mad at people when from their perspective all they're seeing is someone running around and not helping. "Bot drop" still shows up on their screen and not everyone will have the awareness to know it's not nearby. Call in extraction and leave the extraction area at 0 seconds and Pelican 1 will go into a HOLDING pattern above the LZ and can cover a 360 wide range of area demolishing everything chasing you. Just circle parallel to the area outside the LZ. Once 1 Helldiver goes inside that radius outside the LZ Pelican 1 will land. I recommend heading to the LZ within the last 2 minutes. Certain POIs have certain geographical map features and you can identify them if you study and look hard enough but an easier method is to open the map and mouse around a general area until you see a text pop-up that says something like "Minor Point of Interest" and put a pin on it. Another way to to it is to click all over the map until you actually hit something like a side objective. If you have armor with the scout passive, it will show enemies on your pin and if they're not moving, it's also likely a POI. It's part experience, part luck, and part just wandering around the map until you walk onto something.

People also vastly undervalue smoke, especially on this mission type. One single person dousing the objective in smoke can clear the objective alone without having to deal with anything bigger than a few unsuspecting patrols. Running through smoke seems to drastically reduce the odds of getting targeted by a drop, so having one stealth diver on the objective while a duo runs around the map taking the heat and a fourth person goes for samples will give you the best odds of victory and high sample payout against bots. If samples aren’t a concern, a trio blasting everything outside the objective would go even smoother. With a fully coordinated squad, this objective is drastically easier.
