Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis, 1933: “We must make our choice. We may have democracy, or we may have wealth concentrated in the hands of a few, but we can’t have both.”
Jesse Ventura, “When the government lies, the truth becomes a traitor.”
Trump "promised" a lot of things, but never really built much of the wall at all.
The economy of Central America has never been what it should be due to YanKKKee arrogance and greed under the "Monroe Doctrine".
Central American economic collapse will accelerate due to climate catastrophes. Currently, working outside near the equator leads to kidney damage from high temperatures.
Noam Chomsky: ”I don’t know what word in the English language…applies to people who are willing to sacrifice the literal existence of organized human life so they can put a few more dollars into highly stuffed pockets; the word ‘evil’ doesn’t even begin to approach it.”
      H. L. Mencken (1880 - 1956): “Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public.”
William Casey (CIA Director 1981-1987): “We’ll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false.”
Abbott is just another loudmouthed Texass bigot appealing to goose-stepping morons.
Foreign policy is a US Federal responsibility.
Biden has the complete right to decide who enters the US as he is President, not Abbott.
The last time US states tried protecting their "property" resulted in the Civil War. Their property became free, except for Jim Crow bigotries. Let's see how far any secession attempt takes moronic Texassans.
      H. L. Mencken (1880 - 1956): “The men the American people admire most extravagantly are the most daring liars; the men they detest most violently are those who try to tell them the truth.”
Alexis de Tocqueville : “I know of no country in which there is so little independence of mind and real freedom of discussion as in America.”

The US immigration will NEVER be solved until the cartels are snuffed out of power. Immigration "issues" are in the US are largely smoke and mirrors. Every president for the last 50 years has said they will "fix" immigration yet doesn't because it can't be fixed and even if it could be, it's too valuable as a tool for election propaganda to do so.

As a Texan, this is the first I'm hearing of a recent talk of secession. it's a common conversation point amongst Texans, but Texas is more like Scotland and the Uk. We were independent at one point in history, nearly 150 years ago. But we all understand that in order to stop global powers like China and Russia, Texas has to continue to strengthen the United States.
During our annexation it was argued that we could secede if given good reason to, but the right was lost when we lost to the union in the civil war. this is how it's talked about in my circles. I was born and raised here, for the past 26 years.
Texas history is a mandatory history class here k-12 (Elementary-Middle-High School) so how we formed and our political background with the United States and our annexation is a heavily studied subject here in the state.

Don't forget who writes your history books. They are definitely against you and will curve history to make you accept your bondage to a criminal regime.
Just because it's taught in the schools doesn't mean it's right. Both in moral and a factual sense. The legitimate LEGACY population of Texas has got to get up up off their knees, clear your heads of the poisonous fumes of post-modern America and the lies for which it stands, and boldly discuss secession in the open.
Washington is abusing Texas in the way that King George III was abusing the Colonies. But, we're not looking at 1776 2.0 this time. You're looking at 1789 2.0 France where the enemy is in your capital and claims the right to rule over you without question.

Scotland has a huge history. Texas only had a few decades prior to being annexed. As a Texan I don't want to insult a place with an actual national history. And no. Not all Texans understand or care about global politics. Since the right supports a lot of the anti-federalist talking points and buys into lost cause narratives about the Civil War, while attacking the study of the Civil Rights movement and race relations, not a lot of them consider states' rights to secede as having been decided.

I can see Russia and China are your reason to put your life in somebody else's hands.
That's just stupid and say a lot.
To make more sense here is a question for you.
Are you afraid of Russia who is global power always ready to attack USA (media/government interpretation)
Or you are afraid (same media/government interpretation) of Russia that can't exit 10 miles into poor neighbours country, populated with Russians?
People who believe school, media, government...more than they believe common sense always surprise me.
No. There is really no danger for USA or Texas without USA.
Scotland will separate for sure, they will choose moment.
Don't get offended. Just try open more topics for you to think. I guess your Russia/China reasons will disappear if you really deeply think about them for a moment. For me it is obvious brainwashing. Maybe there are some other reasons, true ones. I don't know.
Second one where you can "lose rights" is not acceptable for my mentality. If my fathers were fighting for something and lose...it would be one more motivation for me to succeed next time...not to give up forever. Right to choose for yourselves

Born and raised here in Texas. What you're missing is that because of our former independence, Texas maintains it's own military, guard, and state guard. The only thing we don't have is a navy. Our state troops under the Texas military department answer first and foremost to the governor not the president. With immigrants coming from the middle east and China our governor is well within not only our state's constitution but also the federal constitution. If we need to secede to protect our people so be it. The threat from Bidens lawlessness is dire.

You are greatly overexaggerating the role of the Texas Military Dept. It comprises of 3 types of Nation Guard, which is the same guaranteed for each and every other state in this union.
What your government is doing is unconstitutional in practice, they are willingly going against Supreme Court rulings, which may I remind you is the highest court in the United States, and threatening secession just because you aren't getting your way. The states have their own powers, yes, but they are required by law to answer to the federal government if they were to contradict a state's decision. This is ONE NATION INDIVISIBLE, not a loose confederation as you may believe.
Texas at the moment is not much different from the Confederates, who attempted, and failed, to secede a century and a half ago, who advocated for the *enslavement* of minority races just because they were different from the ruling elite. Think about that long and hard before y'all continue down this path of yours.

Native Texan here. There have always been crazy secessionists in Texas. None of the rest of us take them seriously. They are just very noisy. But conditions along the border are very bad and people living there suffering and have legitimate grievances. There is a huge amount of pro-Abbott/anti-Biden feeling, and much Schadenfreude over the mayors of sanctuary cities flailing around trying to cope with all the migrants they invited to come. Border states have been coping for years, and none of the "sanctuary cities" gave a sht about it then.
Yes, feelings are running high but not high enough to really seriously push for leaving the US.

All of these reflected rulings made in response to current pressures overruled to be more in line with later thinking. There is a complete spread of bad rulings overruled for good ones, good rulings being overriden by bad ones, and bad rulings being replaced by bad rulings. It comes down to jurisdiction. "Sanctuary Cities" basically work through how policing is handled in the USA. Local and state police forces are not obligated to help Federal police forces enforce federal laws. They can't interfere with federal enforcement of those laws. That's why ICE can still go into Sanctuary cities and arrest people who have broken federal immigration laws but local and states police can't be compelled to enforce federal laws. In other words, jurisdiction of the law works both ways; federal laws are both the right and the burden of the federal government (or vice versa for various jurisdictions of state and local), to which state and local aide them at their own privilege.
State or local police might help federal police enforce federal laws, but only if state or local authorities in power compel them to do so. This logic is more visible by the more obvious idea of you don't really see the FBI help local police investigate crimes because they aren't obliged to do so unless the crime is part of federal jurisdiction, as just one example.
In that same sense, what do you think happens if a city is a "sanctuary", and the feds piss off the locals? They won't get any help with much more serious crimes like federal warrant executions or investigations. In other words, immigration is a purely political issue and the fed police know it, its not worth the trouble, so they don't enforce the law because the law is fucked and gets in the way of actually warranted policing like hunting down murderers.

Let me start by saying that I have actually worked the southern border assisting Border Patrol. Specifically in California and very recently. I don't think people understand anything about this issue as they only see what their preferred media shows them. I should also say that Im much more moderate than most outside of a few things like education and healthcare (I just want universal healthcare like Europe has and an education system that is competitive with the top 10).
What we need at a minimum is more people at the border to help manage the people crossing it. BP is hiring, and it pays well enough. We also need more immigration lawyers and judges to deal with the process of deporting or figuring out if someone qualifies for refugee status.
I think we as a country need to decide if we want to be civil about this issue or if we want to close ourselves off from the rest of the worlds problems (which is technically impossible). We also have to decide what we want to do with the Mexican cartels which are the last leg of the network that smuggles people from all over the world. We also have to acknowledge that the majority of these people are coming from some tough places and short of shooting people on sight won't be deterred from crossing.. I mean they deal with the cartels already.
The US should be trying to support the governments in central America in creating more stability and safety.. maybe work with all of it's southern neighbors in resolving these issues.. perhaps the US should make inroads via economic incentives.
We should also deal with the employers who benefit from basically slave labor by hiring migrants and abusing them. This is one of the primary drivers from within the US. They also pressure out politicians from doing anything real to fix the problem.
Now what about walls? I've seen with my own eyes a dozen migrants climb over the primary wall and reach the secondary in about 60 seconds.. faster than BP agents can respond depending on how far away they are. The cartel has a well organized system that BP is constantly trying to stay ahead of.. more agents would help with this. Walls help but are not as effective as some people think. They slow people down, mostly the people who give up and are just looking for a better life here in the US not so much the bad guys which there are a lot of that know how to evade BP.. sometimes their luck runs out but for the most part they are Mexican citizens and get sent back to Mexico where the cartel can basically break them out of jail.. or the corrupt Mexican police/military doesn't really try that hard to fix anything.
The war on terror, all the money and effort put into stopping terrorism, that would pale in comparison to fixing this permanently. It would be messy because the cartel makes a lot of money from Americans buying drugs, and people paying to get into the country. I don't think people are really prepared to deal with this so soon after getting out of Afghanistan. And we don't know if this would make things better. Perhaps we're seeing the best of a bad situation right now.
Anyway y'all have a good day now.

You sir have the most common sense comment I have seen on this issue especially as I'm in Ireland and we're struggling to keep up with all the Refugees coming into the country and a rising far-right movement that is very much so violent and have also been the only ones destroying our country while they blame refugees and legal migrants etc they don't want to increase funding the same way as you have described in lawyers, asylum case officers etc they just want no "foreiners" (yes that's how most of them spell it) in Ireland and are in most cases associated with neo-nazis, Loyalist paramilitaries/terror groups and criminal records i.e drug dealing to kids, beating their partners (even pregnant), attacking dogs etc.
The Irish Government doesn't place national security and defence very high and we are seeing the results of this as some of the far right have called for smuggling firearms etc into Ireland and to "fight the state" they're also funded possibly by Putin the same with the far left groups but they're no where near as dangerous and violent for the moment.
But to me the Texas debacle for me as an outsider, seems like a political stunt to help Trump get re-elected and if he is I seriously doubt he'll give up power again.

I reckon an amendment would have to be written then 3/4ths of the states would have to ratify it. If that happened the feds would have no say in it. Historian Barbara Fields had the most powerful observation when she said “The Civil War is. […] Regrettable it can still be lost.” Her full comments can be heard on the last episode of Ken Burns’ documentary series The Civil War, and reverberate today with even more immediacy.
If the people that fired on Fort Sumpter had known their decisions would lead to the slaughter of almost 1/4 of the southern male population of fighting age, that they would see their cities destroyed to ruins, their homes burned by vengeful armies, and unleash years of atrocities, famine, and ruin would they still have stayed on the same path. Having spoken for years and even counting people as friends from the political extremes I get the uncomfortable feeling that they would like to do their ancestors one better. @JorbyBlorby Před 4 měsíci +4

The genesis of the U.S., in a legal sense, can be broadly understood with three things: The Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation, and the Constitution.
The Declaration of Independence was functionally a legal declaration of rebellion to start the American Revolutionary War. But the Articles of Confederation and the Constitution both can be seen as contracts the States entered into, forming a larger body called the United States as a result. The only reason we even have the Constitution is because the Articles of Confederation proved to be ineffective at establishing enough unity among the states to allow them to act as one body. So we scraped them and adopted the Constitution instead.
Its important to state clearly that no, Texas has zero legal standing to secede or to manage its own immigration policy. However that only stays true if Texas abides by our federations Constitutional contract, or Washington makes them abide by it.
So, if Texas disregards constitutional law on matters of immigration, does Washington use force and/or leverage to make Texas obey constituital law? If the answer is no, suddenly nothing is functionally stopping Texas from enforcing it's own immigration policy entirely independent of Washington.
Should that come to pass suddenly our entire federal system could come under question. I'm certain California, Florida, New England, and likely other states/regions as well would all be very interested to observing the wake of such a scenario.

    • @ontheroadwithtex7991
      @ontheroadwithtex7991 Před 4 měsíci +1

@JorbyBlorby The American Declaration of 1776 is a joint statement of secession. Most of the “free and independent” states had already declared independence, considered themselves seceded, and had written constitutions (or modified their colonial charters) to put their secession into effect as self-governing political entities. The Revolutionary War began in April of 1775.
The “free and independent” states entered into a “compact” with the other free and independent states to form a union of states, which then organized a central authority to perform certain functions. The founding fathers and the framers of our constitutions were consistent in avoiding the term “contract” in favor of “compact” when referring to the union and their ratification of the constitutions.
There is nothing in the US Constitution of 1787 or any of its amendments that prohibits a state from seceding, and there is nothing in the Constitution that gives the central authority the power to stop a state from seceding. The 10th Amendment leaves the power of secession to the states.
In securing its border, Texas is not acting unconstitutionally and it is not violating US statutes, quite the contrary, it is Texas that is upholding US statutes, and it is the US executive branch that is refusing to enforce US statutes and constitutional obligations.
If Texas secedes, we won’t be the only state to do so; indeed, it is more likely that more states would secede than remain in the USA.
