Granted, I got the Switch since I wanted it. And while I will get the upgraded Switch, not now. Because I already put some investment in getting one and buying another one with upgraded life will take time. Some people need a better reason to even get the upgraded Switch since they already have one. Thing is, if they were going to upgrade the battery, they should have done it way before launch day. I can understand if the Switch bricks or some other faulty issues with the original model. And that's the question, is the upgraded switch that had all the flaws its had in its original model when it launched been fixed in the upgraded?

I mean the launch 3DS was pretty damn bad. Nintendo had to play catch-up for the next few years because it disappointed so many people and they even had to give away free shit to people who bought it early because they had to admit they fucked up.
There wasn't much to play on the 3DS early on, unless you really needed Ocarina on a portable. Meanwhile, Switch is like, the only console that matters right now
I'm perfectly fine with my switch as it is. I don't feel like extra battery life is a good enough reason for me to go buy the new one.
And to be fair, Nintendo isn't marketing this as a replacement. In fact they're not really marketing it at all xD

The EXACT day I bought mine, this got announced which is just exactly what I knew was gonna happen (waited months just in case they announce a new model aside from the lite, which I don't care about) but whatever, I probably can replace the battery for a new one later on.
I refuse to buy a new Switch for it, but I would pay to send mine in to get it upgraded.

Rumors were for the Switch Lite and this revised one.
The Switch Lite does have the new chip, but also smaller battery. It does end up being a little better than original like you thought, with Nintendo's estimates for the Lite adding roughly half an hour to a full one over the original.
That's good to know the switch light is using the same chip but people were expecting the switch light to have better battery than the regular and the improved switch as a selling point, or else people would just be paying less for less features rather than "hey, it has less features but much better battery life to better suit it's portability"
Type Masters You wouldn’t get a switch lite for portability, the normal one is already portable. They get it because it’s cheaper and they have no real life friends so they don’t need to disconnect joycons.
Type Masters The only selling point they've had is that it's 100 USD cheaper than the regular model. That price difference might be enough for the masses to perceive it as a good present.
@Haxterz The Switch Pro wont happen, simply because, Nintendo wants to make their consoles affordable so that they can sell their software. Unless the Switch Pro happens to be a home console, and sells for $300 or so, I can't see them making a Switch Pro.
Technically, the new revision can be made "Pro" by overclocking the CPU and GPU, and running at the same power level as the previous switch, but that would just bring the battery level back down to 2.5 hrs, which I doubt Nintendo wants to do.
@Haxterz The 3DS was vastly underpowered when it launched, even for a handheld. The Switch was not. The 3DS was being outperformed by budget phones while the Switch was outperforming high end phones when it launched.
Plus, they could already overclock (technically regular clock, since the x1 on the original switch is underclocked) the new switch revision. There wont be a switch pro. If anything, they'll just unlock the full power of the x1 on the new revision but i doubt they'll do that either.
Plus, think of how expensive that would be. A $400 switch seems very unlike Nintendo. Plus, a pro switch would require a new dock, as the current dock wouldnt be able to supply enough power to a more powerful system, which sort of breaks everything.
A home console only switch would be the only option, as thats the only one that wouldn't clash with the switch's current ecosystem, as the only requirement for compatibility between that and the switch would be the controllers and games

Pretty sure you need to have old firm ware to do so, if not, id wait until a switch pro came out to get a new switch so you can homebrew your old one.

I don't mind my switch battery life. I used it as timer. Once it complains it's battery is running low i know it's time to stop playing.....or switch it over to tv play
I use my Switch like a console I never take it out so it doesn't really change much for me unless I get a new one while my current one breaks

Yeah, majority of the time I'm using my nice big 4k TV and the pro controller. Feels way more comfortable than handheld mode.
It's not only battery life, screen has more accurate colour calibration, and it looks noticeably nicer, not only that its actually brighter! and with the improved energy consumption, you can set the screen brighter and use a louder volume... and it still beats the old switch for outright battery life! its a very nice improvement for sure.

What happened?
near the end of a vacation i was on, i was rushing to pack everything up in a suitcase to go back home, including my switch. the tablet got fucked up somehow with all the things clattering around in my suitcase, rendering it useless. it still works, it just crashes whenever i try and open any game.

I will play in handheld 97% of the time as I do a fair bit of train commuting to College and I'll be going away soon; and the portability and cheaper price tag maye be better for me. But the newer one with the good battery and bigger screen is also appealing! So hard to choose between the two!

11:11 I don’t mean to nitpick or anything, but I want to clarify that this “revised” Switch’s battery life is roughly five and a half hours on a complex game (BotW, etc.) and up to nine hours on a much simpler game (Snipperclips, 1-2-Switch, etc.). Just for anybody that really cares about that ig.

Arlo, the switch light’s chip was put into the upgraded model so they both have the same battery, just clearing that last question up
They actually don't have the same battery. The Switch Lite, according to Nintendo, will last a bit longer than the launch Switch but significantly less than this Switch Revision. This is because the Lite actually has a smaller battery.

I'm in the market for getting a switch in the next few months and I'd mostly just been considering getting a preowned older model but this has convinced me to maybe look into this newer model as an option. Then release a third one called the Switch Lite so people get all three to see what they like

I got this switch for Christmas. It’s display is VERY bright (brighter than the OG) and it makes BOTW look SO GOOD. And it has better battery while doing that at the same time!! Just YES!!!
You know me so well, i DO like videos. I wanted to mention 2 things. Lots of people might not assume a better chip can make such a huge difference, but there's really two places electricity is going: the display and the chip. Now you've seen first hand the difference it can make. The other thing is, i'm fairly confident that the better chip was actually developed for the light because of the battery constraints, and added to the main switch as an afterthought because they are still manufacturing them anyway and it's simpler to use one chip for both models, especially if it's just a better chip.
I'm kind of conflicted. I want to wait for a Switch Pro because it will probably have this new chip in it too plus everything else it would have. But I could be waiting for something that may never come out.
I plan to buy a Switch and I'm thinking of buying this new version of Switch. Heard the battery life is better, so why not

I got my switch for my birthday after slaving through the summer cutting bushes, shrubs, and whatever odd jobs I could do at home for money. So when I finally got the switch pretty much a year after it’s initial release, suffice it to say, was worth it. So with this new switch with better battery life now out, it’s not worth it to me to do so again, I worked hard for what I have now and am thankful for it. Plus, I’m the type who will take their charge cord around on trips anyway so I can tolerate battery life. If you want this version of the switch, more power to you.

I spend the majority of my Switch time using it as a handheld - during my morning commute, lunch break, or just hanging around my apartment, I really appreciate the convenience of playing it wherever & whenever works best for me. Adding 30-45% more battery life is a big deal, if you use your Switch the way I use mine :)

@Arlo the Switch Lite has a (slightly) longer battery life than the OG Switch. It does use the new chip, but it has a smaller battery.
I'm glad they revised the Switch, cause it was weird that the cheaper option had better battery (as it was when they announced it before this revision was revealed).

Hey Arlo, if you are comfortable opening up the joy cons, you can buy replacement shells from ebay, aliexpress and the likes, plus you can use a windows utility to change the color displayed when you connect it to the switch
I'm fine with my Switch, not gonna buy another one just for more battery in handheld when I mostly play Docked anyway.

Glad I'm not the only one who had that problem with the transfer. I have auto-internet connect set off, and had to set it on in order for the transfer to work.
I was skeptical about buying another Switch, but it's nice to play Mario Odyssey for ten minutes and not have the thing wheezing like its on life support. That made me so nervous when I first got the thing, since I've heard a lot about Switch systems bending and overheating.
I have noticed a slight performance boost, although that might have been a recent system update or something, maybe the recent one that decreased the loading times. In BOTW, there's a shrine near Zora's domain that's surrounded by thorns and when you light them on fire, the framerate TANKS, but now it's barely affected.
I had been holding out on getting a Switch because I was happy enough with my family's Wii U (it at least had BotW). But as I was getting ready to start college, I started saving up for a Switch. When I heard about the better battery life, I made sure the one I bought came in the new box. Recently, I went on a trip to Niagra Falls from Fort Wayne, IN, an 8-hour drive. I got 5-6 hours replaying BotW on one charge. I couldn't imagine what the drive would've been like on the older chipset.

It’s literally the exact same thing the only difference being that the battery life is a bit longer. Also, the new switch is still just as powerful as the older one. I have the older one and personally I don’t use it much outside of the house so battery life hasn’t been an issue for me.

dumbass 1472 why not? The 3ds got a cheaper release in the 2ds before an upgrade in the new 3ds and the timeframes of 3ds to 2ds and switch to switch lite are pretty close as well making it seem like Nintendo is following a similar line of releases to the 3ds for the switch.
Still has an incredibly small amount of storage space for games, not interested.

I play 100% in docked mode, so I'm just fine keeping on with my old model. But it's cool they upgraded the battery. Most everyone else I know plays in portable at least part of the time, and I know the portable mode is certainly a bigger thing for people who don't have full reign over their own television set, as well.

Bought the first Switch last November, bought the Switch V2 couple weeks ago. Barely ever played the first one so my wife is using it and it's dang near brand new. Mine is getting used a lot now that I'm not depriving anyone of a console. It was a win-win. We both play ours off dock and play at our jobs on our lunch breaks. Neither of us have had issues with battery on either, but her playing Pokemon and me playing BOTW, we need to charge about the same time. Either way, I love it and my 3DS is collecting dust suddenly. Only use it for Pokemon VGC tournaments now, and come Jan 4, we'll be on the Switch 100%. I'm sure the better battery will come into it's own there.
I preordered the super fun Tsum Tsum Special Edition Switch coming out in Japan later this year. It’s just SO CUTE! Gonna sell my old one on Yahoo! Auctions & just consider whatever the difference is to be an upgrade cost. But without the cute special edition, I wouldn’t be upgrading just for the battery...
Unless you play the Switch all day every day, battery life is not and never will be an issue.
