YES! I loved the Raidou games; they need so much more love (especially from Atlus!!). This really got me in the mood to play them again (mentally repsonding to everything everyone says with my Raidou Farnsworth voice, of course).
Also I'd love to see you do a DemiKids video!
I love them too, and I'm glad I could inspire a desire to play them again. I still need to play through King Abaddon more since unlike with this game, I haven't done everything in that one, and don't worry, I guarantee I will talk about DemiKids one day.
Strain42 I agree as well I think the devil Summoner series really needs a lot more love but seems Atlas seems to be focused on either the main line shin megami tensei or persona. Not that that's a bad thing, but Devil Summoner DID start the whole spin off thing that WAS responsible for Persona in the first place along with the others (I'm aware of the others, but tell me, does anyone think majorly of any Megatan that isn't the SMT Main line, Devil Summoner or Persona minus DemiKids which needs more love and Devil Survivor?)
This game has one of the craziest stories and plot points I think I've ever encountered in a Megaten game. Now I know that these games have various flavors of crazy but when you stop and think about what happens in this game, they make even less sense then the Cybernetic Ghost of Christmas Past from the future. I mean you have to stop a Demon summoning Robot from the future who's helping Japanese Zachary Hale Comstock (who is actually a pissed off Cousin It) from using demon parasites to create a God-powered Decepticon. But you can only do it by using a rocket ship made out of literal junk that's piloted by Salem from Sabrina the Teenage witch armed with a demon elephant that was created by Frankenstein to blow up a satellite in 1920's Japan all to stop the future world of the original SMT game from coming to pass.
1TrulyMad well this is devil Summoner after all. Unlike Persona and the main smt series. Devil Summoner is mostly been a series of crazy supernatural detective stories Mine is Soul hackers but well Soul hackers kind of rehashed devil Summoner 1 story only it had more meat to the narrative that didn't need a novel to flush it out and by devil Summoner 1 I mean the Sega Saturn one that came out before Soul hackers not soulless Army. But yeah you want the biggest amount of zaniness devil Summoner is where it's at.
I'm going to say this. Apparently the bad future that the Japanese Zachary Hale Comstock is trying to prevent is, according to TV Tropes (Yes I went there) The Original Shin Megami Tensei (I'm not joking). Oh... the commenter already said it, sorry.
Love this channel. Don't see much Megaten content here on youtube, so it's certainly refreshing.
As for this game, I sadly could not get into it. I think the battle-system is a little too clunky and could not get over that fact. Loved the presentation and story though. Devil Summoner 2, however, I rather enjoyed. They made alot of improvements to Raidous movement and attacks, and while I'm often sceptical to semi-realtime battle-systems, it was overall pretty fun in that regard. Really wish they'd make another one with Raidou and his pals.
Thanks! I appreciate that. I hope you enjoy my content, MegaTen or not. And yeah, I feel you, gameplay was not this game's strong suit. The combat was repetitive and frequent. The sequel certainly fixed almost every complaint I had gameplay wise, but I had a harder time staying invested because I didn't like the story as much. I dunno, I'll always have a special place in my heart for this game.
Honestly I find it awkward how I just always somehow come back to watching this video XD

Just completed this gem of a game and man what a journey! I love the level design and the thoughtful fun interactions with the environment.
The music is so GOOD and the story was so much fun. The ending was INSANE but knowing MegaTens tendency to make us fight God it should be expected lol (but dude the gigantic gundam killing machine was dope) Can't wait do play King Abandon!
After playing King Abaddon, I find Soulless Army a little tough to go back to, gameplay wise, but yeah, in terms of story, music, world-building, and so many other factors, I love the Raidou games, and I'm glad to hear you did too. Hope you enjoy King Abaddon! It's a blast! Dahn is an amazing character!

You don't advertise a Crossover between 2 of the larger more popular JRPG series.........and then turn it into a JRPG about Pop Idols AKA that thing that needs to stop being forced down our throats in JRPGs and Anime.

I actually don't hate the game that much. I thought it was a well put together RPG with a lot of really good elements to it. Once I got over the initial shock of it not being what we expected, I became pretty okay with it just
being its own spin-off series, just like Persona or Devil Summoner...that said, I'm still going to make fun of it because the premise is ludicrous and very fun to make fun of :P
I actually thought this specific part of the song was part of the joke, cuz the line simply was “kowashitai“ which translates to “wanna crush/destroy
I like Demikids!! They're actually the games that got me into SMT back in like 2004!

Strain42 I'm looking forward to that shit. I spent my whole life thinking 'Demikids ' was single title. Then 13 years later end up buying 'Persona Q' just because it was 20$ (why not). I started playing and eventually got a Mokoi as a persona. I looked at him like....holy..fucking.. shit..GETS IT!!

Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzunoha vs king abaddon video?
Been wanting to play the games for years. Owned a physical copy of the second one but never played it. I hope they work well on the emulation on PS3 since I figured getting them both there would be more convenient.
I'm certainly not ruling out the possibility of a King Abaddon video in the future, but I'd like to get through a couple of other MegaTen games before I even think about doing that one. It would be fun though, and I do love me some Raidou.

Is anyone else having a problem where, after 20 seconds in, the video gets stuck buffering? It only happens on this video
I tested it out for myself. It DID buffer at 20 seconds in, but only for a moment or two and then seemed to play fine. I'm not sure what would've caused this problem.

about the bird is not gottou. You see Yatagarasu is one of japanese god depicted as 3 legged crow and raidou work for them. so either it is yatagarasu itself or the herald.
I've never played nocturne or devil children. Are they good? cause I'm considering expanding beyond the persona series (good games)
I personally love DemiKids, but many people don't, so take any recommendation I have there with a grain of salt. As for other games like Nocturne or DDS, they are good, but the thing I've seen a lot is people who seem to think that they'll play like the newer Persona games. Just know going in they are older and they're going to play a bit different. Beyond that, I totally recommend them. I think Digital Devil Saga is one of the best.

I agree, King Abaddon fixed almost every gameplay problem the original had, and while I'm sure I will eventually do a video on it (because with this being the first MegaTen game I've ever covered I think it'd be nice to do a follow up) I can't say for sure WHEN I'll do KA just 'cause there are other MegaTen games I want to get through first. So it is certainly on the table, but I wouldn't expect it anytime soon.
Strain42 I got a question since I actually just bought the second game having watched you play this one and I'm thinking of getting the first one on the PSN next month. How is this compared to the second in will I be heavily annoyed since I'm actually enjoying the second with no problems? Note that I'm very tolerable of annoying control schemes but I can be turned off if their annoying enough such as the world ends with you. Basically what I'm asking is gameplay difference if you have a chance to answer

In a few very rare instances they've had Water spells like in Persona 2 and I think the DemiKids games, but yeah, as a fan of Water as an element, I'd like to see more of it in the franchise too.

Devil Summoner 1 on the Sega Saturn was the first in the series, with Soul Hackers being a sequel to it! Both Raidou vs games are prequels that are more focused on the Kuzunoha Clan in general! Seeing how DS1 and SH you're some poor schmuck who got pulled into the conflict between the clan and an organization of dark summoners & demons/angels and weren't "official members of the clan in general."
Raidou was in Soul Hackers "3DS Version" as it and SH. Raidou wasn't even a thought yet back in the original 3DS release and remaster on the PS1! Hell the Kuzunoha clan wasn't made as big as they are and their history till the Raidou vs. games and as far as you could guess the clan was made up of three fucking people (Protagonist from DS1, Rei and Kyouji! Ginko wasn't even the overseer for the clan in the first DS1 game. But SH retconned her into the overseer!) I think it's best to say the original idea was there was no clan and it was just Kyouji and Rei, then SH wanted to expand more, so retcon Ginko into a role she wasn't in originally! Made easier as "WE OUTSIDE JAPAN DIDN'T GET THE FIRST GAME!"
The Raidou games wanted to expand to show how the clan was bigger then what was originally believed! With the manga establishing that the clan is one of many the Yatagarasu oversees as there are summoners who are not Kuzunoha (though the first Raidou game established in a funny way that happened to the Protagonist of DS1 that the last and first name of a Kuzunoha is not their actual name, but an inherited one! I like how the separation of Raidou real name and his inherited one are to mirror the protagonist of DS1 situation....only Raidou chose and trained to take the title of Raidou the 14th. While Protagonist was some schmuck who got dragged into things cause said Kuzunoha ended up dragging him into shit to be a disposable pawn, but he ended up being far more competent then first believed! Being even more powerful than the former owner of the body he was forced into! By the end of DS1 I'd say the Protagonist chose to be viewed by Rei as his actual name over Kyouji as it felt wrong that all his hard work should go to a guy who
Raidou vs can be seen as the point that determines a set timeline for many in the series! Namely in the second game, I think this was do to XL causing the Soulless Army incident that may have still happened, just not in the way it did in the first game, as Law in Abaddon leads to SMT 1 & 2 (meaning Raidou canonwise went the Law route when dealing with the King Abaddon case initially! I think the King Abaddon case may have been Raidou's FIRST case if Raidou XL actions in messing with time didn't cause the Soulless Army incident! Which may have caused the original Abaddon case to go into different directions...hence the split! Seeing how I view Nature as more what leads to SMT 3, While Chaos leads to SMT If, DS1, Soul Hackers and the Persona series! Yeah I believed the DS series and Persona are the same universe! Seeing the secretivity of the DS "secret world" (as non DS or magic users are to be killed on the spot to keep the mystery of the mystical world more secretive if they're a risk of exposing it! Kyouji DID threaten to kill Protagonist for witnessing Demons...despite the fact he dragged the poor guy into the situation under threat of killing him otherwise! And Protagonist of Soul Hackers keeps getting this threat against him alot! With the Phantom Society showing their not above ruining his life if that's what it takes! Got to guess yatagarasu lost ALOT of influence since the Raidou vs games ended....likely after WW2 happened....must have lost ALOT of DS) it does make some sense why Demons are more in the background! In the Main SMT series. The separation of the Dark world and real world likely weakened and shattered by the time of SMT 1 that the supernatural couldn't be put back in it's box! While Neutral it was semi put back in and Chaos allowed it to be strongly put back in

I also don't like nocturne that much. The gameplay is fine and the story is ok, but the aesthetics are so murky and gross looking that it's very hard to go back to, especially since my first SMT was IV, which was a marvel of beautiful and colorful design!
