    Here's What Competitive Eating Does to Your Body
    time.com/2954614/competitive-e...
    "Many serious competitive eaters appear to be relatively thin and healthy. So how do they eat that many hot dogs and stay healthy? And is it safe? Not much research has been done about competitive eating. But several doctors from the University of Pennsylvania did an experiment for a National Geographic special, the results of which were published in the Journal of Roentgenology."
    Take a Bite Out of the World's Top Eating Contests
    www.seeker.com/take-a-bite-ou...
    "Everyone likes to eat. But for some people, eating is more than simple sustenance; it's a competition. As HowStuffWorks.com's Ed Grabianowski notes, competitive eating is a pastime that goes back thousands of years. The Major League Eating (MLE) and International Federation of Competitive Eating (IFOCE) suggested that, 'If you have 30 hungry Neanderthals in a cave and a rabbit walks in, that is a competitive eating situation.'"
    Fourth of July Food: Where Did It Come From?
    www.seeker.com/fourth-of-july...
    "For some Americans, July 4 doesn't start until a grill is fired up, followed by hot dogs, hamburgers -- or maybe kabobs -- served with sides of french fries and watermelon. So how did we land on these particular foods?"

    It is definitely easy to choke doing this... the one and only time I attempted to speed-eat something (I had been watching a lot of CZcams videos and was curious if I could do it) I tried to down a Big Mac. Huge mistake. Maybe five seconds and roughly halfway into the burger I took a wrong breath, got some food in my throat, and had the worst coughing fit as I tried to hack up the food and not die. In the five-ish seconds leading up to that point, I thought I had the technique down... nope. I've never wanted to be a competitive eater, this was solely out of curiosity, and my experiment proved that I am not cut out for that task and those that do it are definitely way better at it than I am.

    I already have gastroparesis and I sometimes only eat once a day. Yes I might be severely underweight ( at 94 lbs ) but there's nothing I can do about it. But I really do enjoy watching it. Does anyone know if it still airs? If so what channel and what time does it come on, on the east coast?

  • @DJfractalflight
    @DJfractalflight Před 5 lety

    Gastroparesis isn’t a condition of the stomach becoming too stretched. It is when the vagus nerve is unable to open to pyloric valve to empty the stomach-the contractions are reduced. This can happen to people whether they eat large or small amounts, though the more food in the stomach, the worse the paresis tends to be. But it still isn’t about stomach stretching.

  • @cryinglaughingemoji1741

    "Obesity"? Um competitive eaters are required to be in shape? I read somewhere that fats are actually prevents your stomach from stretching out.

  • @elizabethdysart3690
    @elizabethdysart3690 Před 5 lety

    Gastroparesis is delayed or halted stomach emptying, due to neuropathy, and has nothing to do with the size of ones stomach, but rather the nerve impulses that allow it to empty. It would make sense if the muscles became so stretched that the nerve impulses became weak and the muscles couldn’t contract properly, but gastroparesis is delayed stomach emptying, and it can be caused by many things. It is not an overstretched stomach that can’t digest food.

    When I was 16 (now I'm 21) i remember I participated in a pizza eating challenge and
    Yes as a newbie competitive eater i was (i don't do it anymore)
    I almost choked on the food
    And there was another time when I was eating a lot of spaghetti as a challenge
    Then I felt like dying
    In fact don't do that shit of eating too much food like that
    Because there are really bad consequences later

    My son does a pie eating contest every year at the fair, but it is FAR more sensible. ONE piece of pie as fast as you reasonable can (which is not very fast). These "consume mass quantities" type contests are gross.

    should of gone over the fact that most competitive eaters go through water training to stretch the stomach leading up to a competition, they dont just consume mass amounts of food all the time or they would all be very obese.

  • @Frie_Jemi
    @Frie_Jemi Před 5 lety +1

    A couple of problems. You failed to mention that alot of eaters don't digest everything. Purging is common. Second, if you eat 10000 calories Monday, you might only eat 300 - 400 on each of the next 3 days! Less than 3000 a day on the weekly average. Alot of eaters are lean and VERY healthy because they only eat this way intermittently as part of a dieting plan known as intermittent fasting. So all in all if you are grossed out by it don't watch it.

    competitive eating has led to a brand-new niche challange which is going viral as I type.....
    "Competitive shitting" with it's extreme spin-off combo: "competative curry/chilli eating and shitting" whereby toilet paper is placed in the freezer for the morning after. the technique of 'dabbing' instead of 'wiping' your arse if recommended, apparently.
    call it the "ring-sting challange", if you wish. crimping a cable or dropping the babies off at the pond in the morning will never be the same again.
    known medical side effects: if has been reported that some regular competitors have had to have their arseholes amputated and replaced by ripcords, although generally, this is frowned apon within the community and seen as cheating.
