Everyone in America is so worried about JDM, but the Japanese are racing big American vans. Hahaha

Not many people are all about jdm. I guess I'm not in the usa im in Vancouver and although there is lots of imports like civics integras 240's 350's and all sorts of other nissans Toyotas subarus amd Mazdas and there is a few dealers that have a bunch imported they aren't cars u see a lot of driving around. Even when I go to meets if there is less then 1 out of every 10 cars that is rhd. There is prob actually just as many people who have lhd cars with conversions on the front and rear bumpers lights and sometimes seats or whole interiors so it looks like a car that came from Japan but still lhd. Only thing I think that is good about imports like that is that u can sometimes get cars we never had like r32-r34's and the strange fact that lots of the cars even tho 20 years old will have less km then a car that is only 2 or 3 years old. Plus they are a lot cheaper other then the skylines and a few other cars.

Growing up, my grandfather had a Ram Van just like these. It was a short-wheelbase cargo model, so it had no side glass other than the doors. I always loved that van. Years ago, when I found out that they mod and race them in Japan, that flame was reignited. They're just so cool in that spec! Ever since, a Dajiban has been high on my list of dream builds.

There's probably a good reason for them choosing the Dodge over the Ford Econoline and Chevy G series. Unlike the Chevy and Ford which are body on frame design, the Dodge is unit body with more car-like suspension components and in pre-'94 models, a recirculating ball steering system with a much tighter turning radius. The Ford and Chevy may be tougher, but the Dodge is more easily modified.

The 318 spins higher, so is probably more ideal for this track use.

+noriyaro it sounds like they got shift kits & transmission intercoolers, but just changing the transmission fluid using atf4 the correct one your transmission will last unless you use other regular fluid it will go bad.

You say that like it's a terrible idea, but you can get one of these for a song in the US, and they're V8 and RWD. The only thing that keeps them from going fast are the drivers and the weight.

I have one with a 360 and still, believe me, they don't feel like they are meant to go fast. It can accelerate pretty well but the braking and turning, not so hot at all.

David McClelland My last van was a 94 B350 with the 5.9 V8, it was one of the fastest vans I ever owned. A few donuts in an abandon parking lot after work always melted away the daily frustration. I prayed for snow every winter just so I had an excuse to drift! Cops here in Philly don't even care, in fact one kinda waved me down after I lost it from over comp. and he said "Hey be safe slow down". Sure thing Mr. officer! RWD = Perfect excuse!

Probably easier to get in good condition. Also, Japan jacks up the road taxes on older vehicles to extortionate levels, ensuring only rich collectors can afford to drive them. This is done on purpose to ensure a cycle of guaranteed consumption to keep their manufacturers afloat.

My guess is availability. Maybe the US military bought and imported some to use as people movers on the bases in Japan during the 90s through early 2000s. It was probably easier to import them than get US soldiers to drive a right hand drive stick shift on base. They likely upgraded to sprinters or a different company in the last five years, so I'm sure there was a surplus of outdated Ram vans. Rather than spend more than the vans are worth shipping them back to the US, they probably sold them to the locals for pretty cheap. Just a guess

𝓐𝓼𝓽𝓻𝓸𝓽𝓱𝓾𝓷𝓭𝓮𝓻𝓴𝓪𝓽 I've always heard Dodge transmissions were sketchy, then I heard that was because Dodge was putting too much torque in their engines for the transmissions. Then my dad, the biggest critic of them, started doing research and went and bought a new Ram diesel with the big Cummins. It's held up fine. His Ford van at the same time had started having problems at around 150,000 and I have a Crown Vic with 158,000 on it that is showing signs of minor wear in the valve body (hesitant shifting esp when cold) and is also leaking at the front a little.
So I don't know what to think about brands anymore. I do like Dodges and see some good deals out there so guess I'll have to do my research.

Well, can't fault the Japanese on this one: one of the few non-shit Chrysler products in the last 60 years is the Ram & Ram Van. Still not quite as tasty as a 351W powered E-350, but definitely worth thrashing the piss out of.
Also, is he using a manual-valve body, or just pretend-shifting a normal auto-trans? It didn't look like there was a clutch pedal, so I'm a bit doubtful.
