Wyatt's Wild Journey to Become a TIG Master // Lift Arc Builds

- Welcome back to Lift Arc Builds! This week we take a journey together into the mind of our local renaissance man - Wyatt! In order to practice his TIG skills, Wyatt set out to create a cart to house his awesome Lincoln TIG welder! The reason he's aiming to get his TIG welding up to par is because we have some BIG stainless steel jobs coming up, and if he gets good enough he juuuust might be able to be the welder on that job!
With a compact and simple welding cart design in mind, how well does Wyatt execute on his plan? What was your experience like when you were trying to learn TIG welding? Anything you would have done differently on a project like this? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

I really like Wyatt's approach putting it out there he wants to work on customer jobs. Sees progress, knows it's not customer worthy yet continues on learning from Tay's guidance. Clearly he is not afraid of work for the sake of getting better.
I would leave it on the dolly. Gives you a wider base. It looks sort of top heavy.

The term is dual function. Welding cart/furniture dolly.
Everyone should build their own welding cart.
Mine is made out of a quiltwork of stuff I had laying around, and the casters were inherited from a broken chair from a late family friend.
That's what I'm thinking. I just got a tig rig & instead of buying a $250 flimsy cart, build it for the practice. All the little mistakes on it will be memories for the future.

Love it! Im set to build one and will take design cues. Buy a CAM BUCKLE strap and cut it to length to get the ratchet out of the way. Well done!

Fun project. When tig welding definitely always clean to shiny metal or your setting yourself up to fail. I like the the under cart cord solution. Should have a removable bottle strap so you don’t need to lift the bottle in. Keep up the practice. Putting the time in is the only way to get better! Thanks again for another video. You guys are killing it!

You could take some 1/4x1 and weld on the sides and on the front to keep it from sliding off
Good job Wyatt. Tig welding isn’t easy. Took me a long time to learn. I’ve been tig welding for years, and still learn new stuff all the time. Good job. A gas lens and a #7 cup, 20-25 CFH is a good setup.
Justin you are nearly repeating what is in my head, because I went through all that, but I did go to Tafe (Trade School here in Australia) A Stubby Gas lens and a No.7 Cup and 9 to 10 "Litres per Minute", ( 10 Litres is 21 CFH, ... Litres per minute times 2.1, gives you Cubic feet per Hour) and you are there. I'm a Fabricator here in Australia, have been Mig and Tiging for over 24years, I have used the Ceriated Electrodes Tay is using and I do Use the Angle he ground on that one, we predominantly use E3 [Purple tip] now, which is nearly Identical to the "Layizr" (chartreuse green) Electrodes used in America, [handles high temperatures a bit better.]

I know this video has been out awhile but I gotta tip fer Wyatt. Cut the filler metal rods in half. You will have better balance feeding it thru your fingers. Also hold the torch like you would hold a pencil with index finger wrapped over top of torch body and thumb wrapped under it.AL B in Ohio ,a retired weldor fabricator.
Harbor Freight is the king of reasonably priced abd and reasonable quality casters. Nice video.
