- In its ever-increasing pursuit of Atmanirabhar Bharat, India commissioned the first Project 15B destroyer in 2021 to indigenously build frontline destroyers for the Indian Navy. In Defenders, we take you onboard the INS Visakhapatnam, our first indigenous...stealth guided missile destroyer. She is the lead ship and the first of four Visakhapatnam Class Destroyers being built indigenously. Commissioned in November 2021, this warship is the most technologically advanced guided missile destroyer and a testament to the Indian Navy's might and prowess. This majestic destroyer, is named after the historic city of Andhra Pradesh on the east coast, Visakhapatnam, which is also known as the ‘City of Destiny’.

Grew up watching ENC operating and grow in vizag. The Subs N Destroyers Frigates etc.... whenever they sail in N out of Vizag their engines vibrations draw me to our terrace... Sailing less than a kilometer from me is always a goisebump moment all my life. Love❤Visakhapatnam

The Indian Navy should approve to these kind of contents very often. So the youth can think beyond Army which needs no marketing due to very working style. Presence made visible to all in the land. So Navy is vibrant opportunity to all youths may be these ships and men inspired youths to join the Navy. A strong Navy is like stick you can carry it like weapon to show and if time comes can be force to smash adversaries who dare threaten us. We too need to move to 13-14 K tonne class destroyer... In order to project power beyond Indo-Pacific.

Indian equipment is rubbish
This is result you get when you design your own weapons. Please implement the same with army and air force , let them take the charge of designing of weapons on how they want them to be .
It's not about design it's about quality control, whrn you manufacture 1000s of pieces of repeated equipment, manufacturing standards and efficiency is far more important than design and unfortunately that coupled with the lack of know how to manufacture critical components such as aircraft engines or tank power plants is why the Indian army and air force generally shy away from Indian manufacturers, this is slowly changing.
To illustrate my point a ship design and manufacturing facility, while absolutely a massive undertaking, designs more specialized and lesser scaling repeated equipment. The equivalent of manufacturing one of these ships is like manufacturing a 1000 T 90 bhishmas, which precisely illustrate what I am saying, the Indian armoured corps has far more maintenance issues than more recently manufactured bhishmas at avadh than the original ones received as knock down kits from Russia. Indian manufacturing, especially in PSUs is just not where it needs to be when it comes to precision.

This is among the most advanced Destroyer in the world.
However i have 2 questions -
1 . 32 Surface to Air missiles on a large ship like this is less. Is there any plan to add another 16 or 32 VLSRM for short range air defence to compliment the longer range Barak 8?
2. Arent the ASW rocket launchers obsolete now? They barely have a range of 5 kms and insignificant in modern warfare?
@John Hero cruise missiles? lol, it has the world's best Anti-ship cruise missile capabilities.
i only wish they add 16 VLSRM

Lol I'm more worried about Nilgiri class frigates. They are almost as big as most destroyers but are heavily underarmed. 8 fucking Brahmos.
Also about the SAM systems of 15B- i heard they are testing some missile based on Astra BVR. I wouldn't know how they would retrofit it into these destroyers. Those SAMs have like 20-25 kms range. I think 16 of them would be a good addition.
But again I've to no fucking clue how they would add VLS in an already constructed ship.
