- TSN Hockey analyst Martin Biron shared his thoughts on the spectacular performance by Canucks third-string netminder Arturs Silovs in their series-clinching win over the Predators, and why Elias Pettersson has struggled to find the back of the net, after a quiet series for the Vancouver star.

Silovs is no surprise, he was the MVP at world champoionships last year.. Elite Goalie
He is definitely a surprise... World championship doesn't mean *that* much compared to NHL and considering goalies peak later, like 28 I believe, and silovs is playing like a moderate-high tier starter NHL goalie.. at 23 years old. Kids having a great run, I hope it stays with him, awesome prospect to have.
@@ATGATno. finland and baltics consistently produce goalies with ice in their veins
@@jpsion I didn't say that they didn't, I'm just saying you can never *expect* this type of performance from a 23 year old.
@@ATGATyeah but Canucks have developed him well with one of if not the best goalie coach in the world. They’ve been building him into a beast for years now, the world championship just showed that he doesn’t feel the pressure of the moment.
@@jpsion If by "the Baltics" you mean Latvia, then you are correct. Hockey isn't a national sport in Estonia or Lithuania.
He did it in world championship
Pettersson is playing with weaker linemates against a defense first shot blocking team. nobody did very well except Brock 6 on 5.
Elias is fine and next round will open up for him. Just stop banging on about how one guy struggled in a series that averaged like 2 goals a game.
Spot on
Strongly disagree with your excuses for him.
@@TurdFerguson88 cool, come back in 10 days, win or lose and we'll see.
@@ObscureReference9 Ok.
You seen mikeheyev touch the puck it bursts off his stick everytime..brutal he cant even hold a pass.. Hoglander was getting double teamed anytime he tried to cycle the puck. Im sorry people want him to skate end to end and score? Against sucha tight checking team lol@TurdFerguson88
I’m a big oilers fan but I think this Vancouver team is a lot better then they get credit for gonna be interesting series im honestly worried as a oilers fan fan
Canucks likely won't be as passive as the Kings with their defending, but they also haven't experienced what it's like when McDavid and co. are coming at you in waves in a playoff environment, something the Kings at least had prior experience of
Kings were not a good defensive team canucks are so they will be a harder test to oilers @@user-by3nd4rm6c
if the canucks can control their penalties and take away that advantage for edmonton then yes the oilers are in for a tough series but vancouver can't win with less than 20 shots. we need to start shooting from every angle, let the deflections and puck luck be as it may. we see way more ugly goals than we do the highlight reel type. plus the cancuks need to get their power play going again it comes down to shooting don't get just 2-3 shots on th pp.
the major different is the d and goalie, Saros and his d-man groups are much better than Oilers. At least I don't see Oilers willing to block every shoot to stop Canucks
Agreed, and while I do like Nashville's defense a bit more than that of the Oilers, there is still a noticeable talent drop off beyond Josi and McDonagh
The big difference is going to be the oilers PP, that shit is scary. But if the nucks can keep up this defensive play then i feel they will take it
I can't see skinner playing like Saros, but what do I know? I'm feeling very excited for this matchup. I think this series was the perfect test to see if the boys could play playoff hockey.
@@barnabykocsis6987 the refs rarely give penaties, i mean there were only two in the game and both on van and both were absolute joke calls by shitty refs
Loving everyone counting out the division winner.. that is deeper at every position... that swept the season series... and just beat the team that was the hottest in the league in the second half. The only way edmonton can win this series is if the refs tilt the ice for whinny mcd and cheap, dirty, divy drai.
Well put
I'm okay with being counted out. They doubted all year and were proven wrong all year so. Meh
It's good to be counted out honestly. Less pressure and expectations on the Canucks
You should do what I just did. 1k on the Nucks, great odds. +220.
Deeper at every position; yet Boeser is the only winger on the entire team to score a goal in the playoffs so far lol. Seems they need some real upgrades on the wings.
Latvia makes great goalies because they are always outshot by the better teams xdd.
Ahhah, its true.
thats hilarious
Canucks: 4 lines Oilers: 1 line. The defensive juggernaut that was Van VS Nashville and they saying they are worried Vancouver wont score... Mcdavid can skate, but he has to get through Myers Zadorov and Soucy. I want Hoglander to get some points dudes overdue, Pettersson has amazing vision and can pass the puck as good as any of the top players in the league. He has many talents scoring is just one of them. Plus Hughes will hopefully get more space too
more proof that Ian Clark is the god. incredible performance by Silovs.
Pettersson doesn't need to score to be effective. He only needs to be on the ice to be a distraction for the opposition. Is ANY team gonna say Pettersson is in a slump so we gonna ignore him and double team on someone else? No. That means the other 4 players on ice will be getting more room.
Exactly
exactly, playoffs are all about the team and finding ways to win and less about statistics
well said, can't agree more!!! Petty is such a great asset to the canucks!!!!!!
The way tocchet was talking about silovs post game, it kinda sounded like Demko could be done for the rest of the playoffs. They were talking about how Latvia made a statue for silovs after the world championship and tocchet said to silovs that Vancouver will build him a statue if he wins a few more rounds. Now if Demko was expected back why would you say something like that to your 3rd stringer?
He's just building up his 3rd stringer, it's no skin off of Demko's nose
It sounds like he’s implying Demko would be back in the finals if Silovs can win the next two rounds.
@@danieljames412 Demko could be back as soon as the latter part of the upcoming round, that's the optimistic view
Do not underestimate goalie from Latvia named Artūrs 😅
Could it be:
Silovs = Binnington 2019
Goal Horn song = "Gloria" By Laura Branigan
Didn’t show strong offence because for most of the series Nashville was defensive as f great defensive team but Canucks are better on the rush instead of carrying the offensive play
Go silovs!
im paraphrasing 'the canucks were better in every way this season, edmonton is gonna win' career 3rd stringer marty biron
Martine Gaillard thanks 4 watching 🖖
With due respect to Silovs, Ken Dryden in 1971 had the most impressive debut of any goalie. Six regular season games, then winning the Stanley Cup - while beating the record-setting Bruins along the way - before playing his official rookie season.
My mom could won the Stanley with all the hall of farmers on the 71 cup team.
And this playoff year is not done yet.
Demko
Desmith
Silovs, Tolopilo,Koskenvuo are all very, very interestingly high potential tendies with Clarke😮
Edmonton also doesnt have the defensive team Nashville does. They alow way more chances. So that also will help our big 4 to heat up. We have the better dmen and our 3 steing is better than Edmonton first
I can't see Canucks lose to Oilers, Oilers have to change their defense game, its been to open , to easy for the Canucks in regular season against Oilers. Perfect for players like Garland and Pettersson to shine against Oilers defense..Still, its playoff now, and McDavid is fit.
Biron was saying that Canucks have no chance without Demko 🙄
how many dabs did that guy take, like damn bro get some eye drops
Who is that smoke show ?
Her name escapes me, but she's been an anchor on TSN (the Canadian sports channel) for a long time. A solid, well-versed reporter 💯
Or by smoke show were you referring to Marty Biron?🔥🔥
I believe that is Tessa Bonhomme, she's actually a former hockey player. She played on the Olympic stage, so yeah, she was THAT caliber of an athlete
Akira Schmid did it last year
All playoffs new stars are born. Good there on our team. Petey will b there celebrate 🤠🍻🚬
Cam Ward
STOP whining about Vancouvers lack of scoring and give Nashville and it's players some damn credit !!!!! Nashville is defense first team and ANYBODY who played them in the first rd was going to struggle to score goals . Vancouver VS Edmonton is going to be a fast paced series and the team who gets timely saves from their goalie will win . IF Vancouver can limit the quality scoring chances that Edmonton gets and Silovs is for real I can see Vancouver in 6 . IF this series plays out as a high scoring affair , Edmonton in 6 .
Funny they don’t mention the Oilers scoring only 7 goals against the Canucks all season while the Canucks piled in 21 in the 4 meetings.
Oilers had a different team that time, I bet perry will get under their skin with his playoff experience while the canucks barely have experience in the playoffs compared to the oilers, plus didn’t oilers beat vegas almost every game last year but lost in the 2nd round to em? Oilers in 6
Also the Canucks have never faced an oilers team with a functioning McDavid this year. First 3 games he was playing injured and he missed the last game. Should be interesting to see how they handle him now he’s healthy and in playoff god mode.
Jesus, he screams!
Vancouver can win but the powerplay and Petey need to get going. Edmonton will make us pay on their powerplay so we need to counter on ours
what a game ! although sometimes less intesity and nail biting can be good to , but that is legit playoff hockey we witnessed tonight.

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
Silovs everything the Oilers propaganda machine tried to lie to us and say Skinner was....this will be a reality check for the Oilers. Canucks have the better Goaltending. Goaltending wins Stanley Cups. It is what it is.
I think Martin could use a better microphone so that he doesn't haven't to constantly shout. Poor guy looks so out of breath.
Diehard Canucks fan here, going with Oilers in 5, just keepin' it real.
@@Zaddy91where did he say that was the result he wanted?
Can't stand biron
Petterson need to play for women hockey, nhl playoffs too hard on his soft bones
Like you have played pro… lol.. people too obsessed with offensive stats
and your mom still loves him more.
You would probably crap your pants all over ice after 1 min crying in the fetal position.
Can't tell if ur trolling. If so just look at his first playoffs lol.
Wow, brilliant and insightful analysis.
Canucks fans are delusional if they think the Oilers are going to let this one slip away. The Oilers can be a lazy and uninspiring regular season team. Some may even say, for the most part, the Oil don't even give a crap about the regular season. On the other hand Vancouver had something to prove this year after their horrific debacle of a season last year and gave their 2023 / 2024 season everything they had. Vancouver threw the kitchen sink at their season this year. The Oilers focus and priority is and has always been the playoffs. Edmonton is a different beast in the playoffs. Vancouver will have a rude awakening.
