  • George Harrison watching a performance of The Beatles 'This Boy' credited Lennon/McCartney (released as a B-Side to the 'I Want To Hold Your Hand' single, released on 29 November 1963).
    I do not own this video in any way. All credit goes to the 'Living in the Material World' DVD.

    You can't fool us George; you're as amazed at how wonderful The Beatles are as we were then, especially with a song like this. They were a revelation, they changed the world and made it a much, much better place. They were a huge, once in a lifetime positive influence and an incredibly joyful and deeply emotional touchstone to those of us who were lucky to have grown up with them. There will never be anything like it again.

    • @spactick
      @spactick Před 2 lety +4

      the expression "they changed the world" started when men (mostly youth) started wearing their hair long again after nearly 50 years of getting military style haircuts after WW1 because of the beatles. that's true, although it was other music groups that took it to extremes (length wise) but other than and the way they're stylists dressed them I've never understood what people meant when they say "they changed the world" really? how so? I'd like to know cus I lived thru that period and I've never heard anyone explain what that meant. Can you?

    • @Quarrymen69
      @Quarrymen69 Před 2 lety +17

      @@spactick How they changed the world? Through their incredible music catalog. They moved millions of people with their music. Since you lived through it, you "may" have heard of Beatlemania. You're obviously not a fan, so maybe you ignored it. Try watching some documentaries. Get caught up. They absorbed everything from Elvis, Buddy Holly, Little Richard, and Chuck Berry etc. in the 50's, and took it to the next level. Rock and roll evolution. Pretty much any famous rock artist from the 60's, 70's, 80's, and 90's will say The Beatles were a huge influence on them.
      But yeah...no effect on the world at all.

    • @spactick
      @spactick Před 2 lety +2

      @@Quarrymen69 Obviously not a fan? actually I saw the 4 chaps at the Cow Palace in 1964, 65 and their very
      last 'public' concert at Candlestick Park in 1966. In fact not to pull 'rank' my former friend (he passed away)
      Bob McClay (who was a disc jockey at radio station KYA) drove John from the airport to the stadium. No lie,
      the concert was delayed because the limo they were in couldn't get into the stadium because of traffic. So I
      guess you could say I liked them, but I wasn't some nut case idiot that went out of my mind when they preformed. I liked their music, but I also liked The Beach Boys, Lee Morgan (jazz musician), Bill Evans (jazz
      pianist) etc; so about Beatlemania? personally I thought it was embarrassing. I mean come on they're Brits
      playing our music and we're going nuts? disgraceful, seriously. As to influence? no question when it comes
      to what you were looking at (hair, clothing etc;) they broke the ground, cracked the egg, opened the door to
      a whole new visual (and creative) experience while you were watching your entertainers. So I ask you again
      Quarrymen what specifically did they do that 'changed the world?' your reply didn't cut it, wanna try again?

    George's love for his Beatles days was sometimes muted, but it really comes through in this clip. I live up the street from Strawberry Fields in Central Park and sing and play there for every Beatles birthday. George, unfortunately, was born on February 25th, which is often very cold, so I'm often there with only one or two others. November 29 is the date he died, though, and this also is not well-attended. December 8, the date John died, always sees SBF packed with singers and musicians.
    If you love George and the Beatles and are in NYC on February 25 or November 29, please come sing with us. If you play, bring a guitar.

      Years ago, Brian Wilson (Beach Boys) was asked about why John was such an effective vocalist, and he replied "pain...there's pain in his voice". Given Wilson's own tough childhood, and Lennon's, I could see a kindredness there . Some of our best singers and songwriters carried a lot of pain, which helped them achieve higher levels of artistry.
