  • The food at Koyetsu Chaya was as authentic as it gets. The flavors and quality of dyhe food at this casual eatery in Honolulu was juar as good as any youd find in Japan. They aweve a small menu of good Japanese confort food and everything we tried was absolutely delicious.
    We tried three things on their menu.
    -Karaage Chicken
    -Taco Rice
    -Ginger Pork
    We enjoyed all their dishes but were particularly fond of their fried chicken. We live in Tokyo, but would definitely visit this place again just for their food.

    I'm _so_ happy to see you back in Hawaii! I know your mom loves having you there as much as you both love being there. It makes me homesick. I was searching on Zillow today for 1 & 2 bedroom condos in Honolulu, and was surprised to see many acceptable places that were very affordable (compared to where I live). I know it sounds silly, but if I won the lottery (hahaha!) I'd give you two enough money to buy a condo so you'd be free to spend more time near your mom and family, Shinichi. Hey, maybe you could do "TabiEats does Hawaii" part of each year. 😄 🌺🤙 The grindz at Koyetsu Chaya looked ‘ono and, yeah, portions are choke. See, I still remember pidgin. 😊 Aloha nui. 💚💙

    OMG! I've walked right by this place way too many times and never thought to look at the menu--but only because it sits between two of my favorite restaurants in Hawaii. Just a few doors to the right is Yaki-yaki Miwa. Authentic Japanese teppanyaki. The head chef is from Fukuoka. The food there is soooo good! The Hokkaido scallops with Ong Choy is a must-have appetizer. To the left, at the far end of the next building, is Chez Kenzo Bar and Grill. The Japanese owner, Kenzo-san, decided that the locals needed a low-key place to get Yoshoku cuisine. It's a real deal hidden gem. It's not fancy and looks like your typical Oahu bar and grill, but the menu speaks for itself. Get yourself a natto omelet!

    Can someone please tell me why everything is served in styrofoam and plastic? For takeaway I can understand it (although I do not like it) but when you are actually eating inside at a table there is no need to produce unnecessary waste. The food itself looked quite tasty though. Happy to see you back in Hawaii - enjoy you stay there.

    I do wonder if the beer is purely alcohol free because in the US 0% and alcohol free beer can contain some if really very little alcohol so if you are on medication that will react to such stay away also when cooking you don't burn away all the alcohol just wanted to prevent someone from experiencing bad medical issues from medication

    I love taco rice, ever since you two did something a while back. So, now, it's a regular on my home cooked meals. I also tried fajita rice, utilizing the same concept. I also do Japanese sesame chicken, is that similar to chicken karaage?

    • @TabiEats
      @TabiEats  Před 2 měsíci +1

      So happy you enjoy taco rice. We have to try your fajita rice one day. Chicken Karaage is more like boneless fried chicken with a bit of sweetsoy sauce flavor.

      @@TabiEats umami fried chicken, I'll see what I can do here at home. For the fajitas, I make it as usual, except I replace half of the lime juice with Kikkoman soy sauce. Skirt steak 500 grams, onion, 3 (or more) different colored bell peppers, celery, 2 (or more) TBS cilantro, 1 TBS (or more) cumin, red pepper flakes (to taste), garlic (optional), equal parts soy sauce & lime juice (3/4 tsp each, or to taste), and will sometimes use sake to deglaze the pan.
